  1. As yesterday was our first day at geocaching, we took our GPS, signature swag and a pen, which I had to send my hubby back to the car to get since we forget to put in in our pocket...Oh! and our camera. Could have used the first aid kit...my face ran into some branches while trying to reach for the find. Guess we better put a kit together so we can go on longer trecks
  2. OMG on question #3. On a scale of 1 - 5, I would have given that one a 10. Oh geez, I have so much to learn.....
  3. Great question about posting photos....we found our first 4 of 6 caches yesterday and took pictures of each container at the find. The only reason our photos aren't up already is because my laptop doesn't have a card reader. Now that we've read the responses, we won't be posting the pictures. Ours were extremely easy to find because the poster left great clues (decon container, christmas stocking, snowman, altoids tin) As a newbie, I wouldn't have thought the pictures would take the fun out of the find. My only thought was YEA, I found it and here's the proof....Now, instead of posting the picutres, I will start a scrap/log book and embelish the heck out of it with the trinkets we find. Or maybe I'll learn about one of those blog sites.....how do I find the free ones?
  4. So, what do you do with a geocoin?
  5. After reading several posts in the forum, we decided on the Garmin 60CSx. We know nothing about geocaching or about GPS's, but we thought it would be fun to try. Actually, we needed something to get us out of the house. We are the type that start to read directions but then try to figure it out ourselves. We spent the first week, sitting in different areas of the neighborhood trying to find satalites...living in So Cal, we couldn't get the GPS unit out of Kansas. We finally traded the unit in for another 60CSx. We were so excited to find our location within 30 seconds of turning it on. We did log our first find today (actually 4 out of 6) and had fun looking for them. The unit itself was easy to use. It was fun watching the screen that verified we were getting closer to the find. We searched the computer first and wrote down the clues in our new log book. The 60CSx came with a USB cable and we were able to download the coordinates quickly. Then we set off for out first adventure. The screen was larger than some of the other units and easy to read. We set off tomorrow for our second adventure.
  6. We found our first one today! Actually 4 out of 6....all close to home. We haven't figured out the GPS thing yet but I'm sure the light will come on soon! We downloaded the coordinates to the GPS, then while we were out, we picked the closest to our location and set out on foot. We found the waypoint for the two we missed, but found nothing to log our find. Tomorrow we are out again to find at least one more. Can't say we are hooked yet, but it did get us out of the house.
  7. Well we purchased the GPSMAP 60CSx - found it at sports Chalet for $399 on sale for $349, but they price matched the WalMart sales price of $300......I brought it home and everything in there is for Kansas....I live in CA. I take it outside and it can't locate any satalites....I go to the Garmin site and find that FAQ "can't locate a GPS fix"...I download the Webupdated and update my GPS...says I have the latest version...update it anyway to get rid of Kansas....put in new batteries....nothing.....outside for over an hour and have different satalites, but no fix.....come back in...go to FAQ again....hold down page, menu and on buttons at the same time then I'm suppose to choose Yes....but Yes never comes up as an option.... How on earth do I fix our home base location? I'm in Beaumont, CA...not sure that make a difference.
