  1. That was my cache you were looking for and it was a pickle that you should have been looking for. Heya Turtle... Just now getting around to reading up on some of the forum stuff. Wanted to let you know that I had told Arche what he was looking for (as I had logged it way previously), but.. ya just gotta know Arche. He's just a curious sot! *chuckle* -- LostFool "Never Underestimate ..."
  2. It is indeed the Thanatopsis Letterbox. Many thanks to Cornix who came up with the name/info first, and to Imajika also for the link to letterboxing.org. Got a hoot out of New England n00b's hiking stick! Way cool! YuccaPatrol and kone, its too late. It appears (as of today at least) that muggles (ghouls?) got that letterbox on 09/25/04.. So, no way to sign it now. Thankfully I'm not superstitious like ol' Arche is, so..... ya know... Ooogie boogie woogie! -- Lost Fool "Never Underestimate ..."
  3. Man, I gotta get to these forums more often than this! Pardon my very late arrival to this topic. But... For what its worth, yes, we were both using the same DATUM as was posted on the particular cache. We always check, re-check and then double check all the particulars when doing any cache. (Paperless caching is SO cool!) Arche and myself were just wondering/pondering about this back when we were first teaming up and had stumbled across a particular cache. And all of the above is very true. Atmospheric conditons, weather conditions, DATUM, and even muggles can all affect cordinates of a cache. Thoughout time tho, we've come to learn that a Geocacher within our locale has a inaccurate GPSr.. guess a resistor in his GPSr popped somewhere along his trails, so anytime anyone does one of his caches now they know to add/subtract about 30' to get close. Hope one day a event cache here can gather enough tips to buy him a accurate GPSr. -- Lost Fool "Never Underestimate ..."
  4. Well, a day late and a dollar short as always when I finally get myself to the forums, but none the less I'll leave this here for those researching... For what its worth, the parent company of whom I work for sells electronic gear (various) and at one time decided to carry the Cobra line of GPSr units. A customer of theirs ordered one and sent it back saying it didn't work. Almost unfortunately for them, they almost didn't have a technician to check the unit out... until one employee remembered that I deal with GPSr units in hobby/game of Geocaching. It only took me 30 minutes (actually a little less) to determine that the unit was.. umm.. how to put this nicely.. a nifty paper weight. I took it down a expressway here in the city, and it estimated the fastest I was going was 36 mph. I'm not going to get caught doing a measly 36 mph on this expressway, esp not during RUSH HOUR. Secondly, it kept losing signal of ALL satellites repetitively.. every 1.40 to 2.00 minutes. Clear, Sunny day at that. So when I took the unit back into the office and told them what I had found, and told them it'd be best sold at $5 for parts/paper weight, they discontinued carrying them. Take a look at Garmin, Lowrance, and Megellan for your best performance, and bang for your buck. -- LostFool "Never Underestimate ..."
  5. Still doing that, so I'm going to presume backward triggering options until further notification. Ok, a bit o'egg on my face here. It never dawned on me how over saturated my locale is and thusly was causing the above to occur. So, I've shortend my milage search down to 50, and may go down further to 30, and started various PQs allocated to zipcodes. I'll see how that works out (and hope thats what is causing the above). Would be nice if there was a detailed help file or manual for PQs on the page itself.
  6. Is there anything else fishy going on with PQ's? I'm asking because I decided to run another, and although I chose everything I had before.. it came back stating nada. Zilch. Zero. So, I went back and UN-checked everything. BOOM. Results, although very strange results. (Backward triggering on the options?) Then, I ran yet another. No matter how far out in milage I tell it to go (i.e., 150 mi), and no matter what states if any I pick (there is mine and one very nearby for a total of 2 for myself), PQ will not return with listings of those caches that A] I've found and B] are only about 30 air miles from my zip. Anyone know what gives? I've looked high and low for a status page, but.. nada. Regards, -- LostFool "Never underestimate...."
  7. I would say that mine is self-explanitory, but then that wouldn't exactly be the truth. No, not even if I tried. So the day I trekked off on my first Geocache hunt, I thought a bit of socratic irony, and gave some satirically engineered wit, and.. -insert crack of thunder and clash of lightning here- Wallah! Thus was born, the LostFool. Or... am I? -- LostFool "Never Underestimate ..."
  8. You can also get a HandSpring PDA for about that amount as well on eBay. Most have expansion slots on top to allow for a GPSr PDA unit to be slapped on top to turn the unit into a GPSr. They run the Palm OS as well.
