  1. "I think I should be good to go on Sunday. I've spent the last two days hiking around the Mall of America and still have one more day to go (one floor a day) and so far the knee seems to be doing pretty good." Are you serious LandRover about "hiking" the Mall of America one floor a day? That sounds like pure torture to me. Just wondering, lol.
  2. I'll be honest, I'd really love to join you all on this hike and I've been saying "I will one day" it seems for the last couple of years. Problem is, is that I don't know if my mighty Focus would be able to make it to the parking lot and I've never been snow shoeing before (which really makes me want to join you all on this trip) I am available that day and am heading to Iraqistan in less than two weeks so I'd love to join. Do we know what the road conditions will be this weekend and/or does anyone live in the Tacoma/Puyuallup area that wants a passenger seat filled? Also, where is the best place to rent snow shoes at?
  3. So how close to the cache could you drive? I'm always looking for caches to Jeep to. I just added this one to my Washington Bucket List Bookmark. Thanks for the heads-up and congrats on your 100th find!
  4. I'll take two! I clicked on the company's link and watched their video of it, it's really neat. Now if I could get one that is battery operated instead of gas it would work out excellent for me for all of the Weyerhauser property logging road caches that I seem to find myself constantly hiking up and down. I wonder what kind of price tag this thing has on it. Either way it's a neat contraption.
  5. From one Jeeper to another, if I can give you one cache to go to that is on the way to Port Townsend that will take both of your breaths away, this will do it. It is a must do and on my 1% list. Check it out, do the quick hike and be amazed. I was. Okay, if I could give you two to do, this one blew my mind as well.
  6. I'm Baaaaack! Just a little bump here. I wanted to thank you all for your comments. Laying on my back for four weeks was as ill of a thing as I'd ever want to do again. I haven't found a cache in over 5 weeks or so and am looking at getting back out tomorrow as I am on leave for the next 13 days. We'll see where the caches take me....
  7. Another good way is to post a topic in your local forum and just get the word out that you are looking for train themed/train history caches in your area and see what the cachers in your area come back with. I'll bet you get some good info back. If you lived out here in Washington State with me I would have a ton of cache info that were train related.
  8. Question. Does this lay out the map pages on Google Earth so that we can see what pages we have and have not found caches on and if so how do we do it? Sorry for my lack of computer knowledge.
  9. Too make this cache much more video worthy, go later in the year when it's wet and raining out like I did. I made it back to the vehicle and immediately stripped down to the skin, took a quick rain shower, dried off and thew on a fresh set of clothes and boots. There's just nothing like being soaking wet and fighting your way through Salmonberry and Devils Club. Anyhow, I'd join in a hearbeat, but I'm still recovering from back surgery. Should be lots of fun!
  10. This is one of those Ford/Chevy or Stick/Automatic when offroading questions, but i will tell you in my expierence and this is just my expierence...I absolutely with a heated passion HATED the touchscreen of the Oregon 400T that I used for a couple months. I had lost my 60CSX in a cave in WA, I loved that GPS with my whole heart, it was the International of trucks man. So after losing my GPS I borrowed my friends Oregon, ugh!, my caching stats went through the floor. I then found out that he had an old Etrex, I was a happy cacher again! I bought a Colorado 6 months ago mostly for the paperless function and have grown very use to it. So my answer is to stay away from the touchscreen, BUT, like I said, this is just my association with the touchscreen.
  11. Totally agree with you NP, I always use the compass feature and find it very helpful. It only takes 15-20 seconds to calibrate after replacing the batteries and works well. If you ever think it is questionable or acting up while in the field, just run another quick calibration on it. I agree completely with the both of you and do just as the two of you have metioned. Even if I feel that my compass is acting up at all I take the few seconds in an open area and recalibrate it. You won't believe how much better the compass is once you recal it. I generally recal it at the beginning of every outing. Now I bought my Coloado just a few months ago but have had zero issues with it. I use to have a 60 CSX that I lost in a cave in WA (somebody got a sweet present that year). And a friend of mine had an Oregon and an Etrex C I think it was. I absolutely hated the Oregon and used the Etrex over the Oregon for almost a year before I broke down and bought the Colorado. Like I said, I have had no issues with my Colorado. My next GPS will be the 62ST. It combines the best of the Colorado and the 60 CSX. Best of luck!
  12. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Enjoy. I know where the starting point is at, it's at any point that you can get into the swamp and get wet. Actually, when I found this cache it was on a whim after work and I went with a friend and zero assistance and we found the prize. I'll tell you this, your going to get wet, your going to second guess your choice on attempting this cache every ten feet of distance you make it and your going to leave that swamp and not be welcome at any public place of business. I know now, where the best place is to start, but I didn't find it until a couple years after I went after it and I'm not going to tell you where it is either. My friend and I entered where "as the crows fly" the GPS was at it's shortest distance. A mistake that may have been, but I have memories permanently burnt into my head from that excursion that I will never forget. I will say this though, we spent a good chunk of time in the air. We climbed "trees" or rather large pieces of vegetation to their tops and then with our weight we would bend them over to other trees and continue this as far as we could. Eventually one of the tops broke off and I ended up in the wet stuff. it was gross, it was wet and it smelled really bad. Enjoy! Be sure to take and post pics!
  13. Thanks TotemLake. I was looking forward to a hike with you and the crew as well. Give me a couple months to get back in the swing of things and I'll be joining you you on a hike, no matter what the weather may be. Take care.
  14. Well thank you for your words of advice. It's funny that you mentioned what you mentioned as that is exactly what I plan on doing. I've got a stack of great books to read, some off-road adventure movies to watch anf I'm sure plenty of friends to catch up with. Thanks again.
  15. Well for the last couple of years I have been having some irritating back pains and with the urging of my wife I finally went to my Doc and explained to him my issues. Well to make a long story short I will be undergoing back surgery on Tuesday instead of going on three weeks of leave like I had planned on doing since my last deployment to Afghanistan. A month ago I had an MRI done at Madigan and it came back with two bulging discs. Yesterday I went back in and had another MRI done as the shooting pians and numbness to my left leg and groin area were exceptionally worse. The results came back in that one of my discs was now herniated. I guess going after SIHI and Geocache (GCD), in the same weekend wasn't the best idea. Also the jet skiing I did on Lake Lanier in Atlanta last week didn't help matters either. So it's under the knife I go and 30 days of convelescent (spelling?) leave after that. So no geocaching for me for the next month or so and what makes it even worse is that this is the best time of the year to get out and cache this awesome state we live in. Anyhow, just wanted to let you all know. You all take care and stay safe out there okay. I'll be keeping up with all of your adventures through here. Travis
  16. Well just to let you all know, I won't be making it as originally planned. A week ago I had a major plan changer come up so I went ahead and canceled my reserved spot. Well a couple days ago my major plans were canceled as well so I set up an alternate hike with some co-workers and due to there time restraints they wouldn't have been able to make it to Aix, so we decided to climb Mt. Si on saturday and maybe go after Geocache as well. I know that I'm going to miss out on a really cool time with all of you but maybe in the near future I'll throw my name in for another HOTM. Take care all and have a great time!
  17. Owning and driving a Jeep gives you a special more personal feeling that non-Jeep drivers will ever understand. It's alot like that love for your country feeling that a veteran feels when he thinks about his country that a non-serving member of society will ever be able to feel or understand no matter how hard you try to make them understand. To me there is absolutely no comparison between a Mini and a Wrangler. I've ridden in a mini a few times and honestly i'd take my old 1983 Subaru DL sedan over a mini in a heartbeat. Mini's are cute and look really good when wrapped around a young beautiful woman, but when you really need to get there and and don't ever want to think about "will my vehicle make it", then go on down and pick up a Wrangler. Besides, even Susan Boyle would look good in a Jeep. Best of Luck!
  18. I'm down for September! Keep us all posted!
  19. JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP JEEP Check out the newer Jeep JKs. There are no longer noisy at all even with the soft tops. They have come along ways in making the soft tops noise free these days, plus there's just something about being part of the club and getting the Jeep wave from a fellow Jeeper. I am partial as I have owned a bunch of them over the years though. But seriously go drive one of the newer ones and you'll be very impressed. They are much more comfortable than the Jeeps of past.
  20. Multiple trips in one thread, that'll do it fer shure. This Sunday, July 11, is Tubal Cain, meeting 9:00 am in Silverdale. (Thanks, Crim. I may have to call off those hit men. ) Next weekend, July 16-18, is the Bumping Lake campout with Aix as the hiking goal on Saturday 17th. How's that? Crystal clear for me now. Thank you! I won't be able to attend this Sunday even though that is a hike and cache I've been wanting to do for some time now, but I have to work Sunday. Plans are still on for the 16th - 18th though, looking forward to it.
  21. Okay, now my noodle is scrambled. What is the intended destination and what day? Is it still near Bumping Lake Campground or is that off now? Just need to know so that I can bow in or out. Thanks!
  22. Uuuhh, yes. Alot of us have dropped some serious coin on campground stay, as crappy as that may be, we should definately come up with a plan B. I'll be waiting to hear back on this.
  23. Which caches? GC1HG5K, GC185JR,GC1894X, Are the 3 that I remember Hey there bud, post this in the "newbie" forums. And state your exact probelms. You will get help from the experts there such as GPS help and just general good questions answered. You might have your GPS set on the wrong settings. Best of luck.
  24. I called four of those surplus stores and all said no. One of them did say those 81mm rocket propelled guys are on a pallet behind the foxhole. So you may want to cruise around back, take a look and then go in and ask about them if so. Thanks for the info. I will head out here in a minute and go check. Even if the replacement does fit, I have an excuse to place a really cool cache. Glad we solved this problem ASAP.
