  1. I've run the pocket query for the caches I want to search for. Now how do I load them from my iMac to my etrex vista GPSr?
  2. Thanks. I'm not techie enough to use VMWare. Portland Cyclist suggested GCStatistic, since all I'm really interested in is generating statistics, so I think I'll try that. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Pete
  3. Great...I'll give it a try. Thanks! Pete
  4. When I had my PC I used GSAK and FindStatGen3 to generate statistics for my profile page. Now that I've switched to an iMac I'm looking for a way to generate similar statistics. Thanks. Camnpete
  5. The "search" link is on the grey ribbon bar that is under the Groundspeak logo. It's over to the right between "help" and "members". Thanks...I knew it had to be there somewhere. Pete
  6. I finally got the cable to download information from geocaching.com into my Garmin etrex Vista, but I can't find a thread or link that tells me how to do it. Can someone please steer me in the right direction. Thanks. P.S. Is there any kind of a 'search' function for these forums? I couldn't see one. I hate to take up people's time replying to a question that I know must have already been asked and answered.
  7. Great thread. I was what my job in the Air Force called "draft motivated". In my case, that means I was a sophomore in college in 1966 when I lost my student deferment, thereby making me eligible to go to Viet Nam. I figured I'd rather go as an officer so I joined the Air Force ROTC program at San Jose State. I got my comission in June of 1968 and went on active duty in September, 1969 after completing my MBA. I was assigned to the Air Force Human Resources Lab, Personnel Reasearch Division. I helped run a computer center (do you remember IBM 360? punch cards? mag tape drives?) This operation was at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, where all new airmen come through for basic training. One of the things we did was collect information on all of the airmen, including test scores, and then validate that information with their evaluations as they went through their Air Force career. It was kind of a fun job (particularly since it was in Texas and not Nam). I took advantage of an "early out" program and left the AF on May 31, 1973.
  8. Hi, thanks for your feedback. I now remember that the cable I purchased to go between the GPSr and PC broke and I never replaced it. I'll get a new one and try your technique. Thanks for the advice. Pete
  9. Hi...thanks for your reply. All it says on the front of my GPSr is Gramin etrex vista. The only additional wording on the user's manual is "personal navigator", which I don't believe is a differentiater of etrex vista line. I now remember that the cable I had to go from PC to GPSr broke, so I need to get a new and try again. Thanks again for your help. Pete
  10. Is there a way to select specific caches (say, from the map feature) and automatically upload them to my Garmin etrex vista GPSr? Thanks.
  11. Thanks for your help. I worked my way through it with the aid of the GSAK User's Manual and got it to work. This time I wrote it down in great detail. Thanks again. Pete
  12. About a year ago I tried loading my statistics on my profile page using "findgenstat3". I had a horrible time and never could get it to work. Now I'm wondering if there's a newer, better process to use for this, or perhaps some detailed instructions on how to use "findgenstat3". I'm running on a PC with Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Camnpete
  13. Hi Cliff, I tried setting up my "virtual" cache as an earthcache. We'll see if it gets approved. Thanks for your help. Pete Just to add to what others have linked to: The best description I could give for a Wherigo, (at least the ones I've built and played), is an interactive multicache. You start with a software program, called a cartridge, and a device capable of playing these cartridges. Garmin makes a couple GPSrs that do this well, (Colorado & Oregon), and the Wherigo forums list a bunch of other, more cost friendly alternatives that also work well. The cartridges are pretty easy to create, using the provided program. As I'm dumber than a bag of hammers, it's safe to say, if I can do it, anyone can do it. Essentially, as the person seeking the cache, you would be guided to the location by your device. Once you get within range of the location, the device will sense this, and trigger whatever the programmer built in to the cartridge. In most cases, this would be a question that pops up on your device. (like "What is the date inscribed at the bottom of the monument?") Answer the question correctly, and the device unlocks the next stage in your journey. They are a hoot! Good luck!
  14. Hi Clan Riffster...I saw the option for a "Wherigo" cache...what is that? Pete
  15. How do I set up a virtual cache? It is not one of the options (for cache type) on the setup page. Thanks, Camnpete
  16. Jim, I'm feeling like a real dunce, but I still can't figure out how to get the latest version (3.5.15) of FindStatGen3 loaded into GSAK. When I click on the link you sent me I see information about that new version, but not how to update/load it. Thanks, Pete Did you look at the FAQ link I gave you? If you are still having problems could you elaborate on which step is causing problems? Jim Yes. I go to the GSAK Macro Library index and open FindStatGen3 3.5.15 lignumaqua 2009-03-30 Find Statistics Generator (3.5) That takes me to liqnumaqua's March 30, 2009 post which describes all of the changes made in 3.5.15, but I can't find anything that tells me how to upload that version into GSAK. Pete Jim, I go to the FAQ link and it tells me how to open the FindSatGen3 macro, which I do. That takes me to lignumaqua's 3-30-2009 entry. I read all about the changes that were made in this revision and then click on the 'findstatgen3.qsk' link at the very bottom of the entry. I choose to "open with gsak geocaching program (default). Almost instantly I receive a message saying all downloads are complete. I then go back to the macros heading on the GSAK home page and click on 'manage/run', but the old version of FindStatGen3 is still there. Do I have to close GSAK and restart it? Pete Apparently you don't have the file association set correctly. Use the windows explorer to go to the directory the downloaded file is. Double click the file, windows should say it does not how to open the file and give you a choice of going to the web or picking from a list. Chose the list and if GSAK is not on the list use the browse button got chose GSAK. If you have your file associations set correctly you will not have to do this step. Jim Jim, My downloaded PQ is in 893125.gpx. When I double click on that it opens and shows the results of the download, i.e. all of the caches I've ever found. That doesn't sound like what you were expecting. Do I need to change something? Thanks, Pete PS. I'm running a pc with VISTA. Does that cause any special problems? (I know it has in other situations)

  22. Jim, 1. How do I uplload the latest version (3.5.15) of FindStatGen3? 2. When I run the macro it pauses and I get a message that says: It looks like you don't have your found logs in GSAK or you don't have your method for matching set up correctly in tools/options. I go to the indicated post but all that seems to tell me is how to get my user id#, which I already know is 203497. Thanks for your help. Pete

  24. I haven't done this in a while and my notes are obviously not sufficient. I'm wanting to use FindGenStat3 to update the statistics on my profile page. I've run the My Finds Pocket Query and downloaded the results to my pc. I've gone to GSAK and fun "File, Load GPX/LOC/ZIP File" after ensuring the new results are in the same folder as the previous results. I've run the macro FindStatGen3, version 3.2.20. When I go to my profile page on geocaching.com and open "edit your profile" I do NOT get a request to verify my password (my notes say I should). When I scroll down to "Your Profile Details", click in that field and hit cntrl-A it highlights all of the data. But when I hit cntl-v to paste the new text it only pastes the file name that was generated by the PQ. Where can I get the new PQ data that was generated in a format that can be used to update my profile? Thanks for your help. Pete of camnpete
