  1. Well i am the owner of a cache which uses the triangulation methods of drawing circles and finding where all three overlap. I used Delorme Topo, but i suggested to some other caches that they use http://dev.bt23.org/keyhole/circlegen/ You may have to do some unit conversions but it will generate a circle kml file which can be imported to Google Earth.
  2. This is what I normally do, 25 character limit. Then I ran it though GPS babel and opened it in Google Earth. This what I did to limit the characters to 10. Then I ran it through GPS babel and opened it in Google Earth. Is that what you are looking for?
  3. Well what I do is I just export a GPX file from GSAK and then use GPSbabel to convert it to a kml file (I don't why but Google Earth seems to always have errors when I import a gpx from GSAK). When you export the gpx there is an option next to where you type "%name" or "%smart" that says "maximum characters", just set it to whatever you want and that should solve it.
  4. I would like to, but I don't know if I would be able to. Try posting something on the GEORoc forum, http://georoc.org/portal.php . I'm sure you would be able to find someone to help you out.
  5. Man I didn't know there was a cache under there. I went there a few weeks ago and explored the tunnels and ate at Dinosaur. Looks like I'll have to go back sometime. Those tunnels are pretty sweet. There's lots of graffiti and stuff. Definitely bring a flashlight and don't go alone. If you're going to stop in Rochester, you might also want to check out GCKH63, it's in the "tunnels" under RIT, it's pretty sweet.
  6. You have a pretty good idea of what you want. Maneuverability being a priority for you, the MSR's would be the better bet. You'll probably want to aim for the the Denali's as these are all around great for different types of terrain and extendable with the flotation tails for different types of snow. The only time you're going to need to worry about soft snow is the first 2-3 weeks of fresh snow, after that, most "short" shoes will handle the crusty stuff well enough to keep you afloat. The only gripe I had about the MSR is they are very noisy in crunchy snow. For perspective, I wear Atlas 35" boats because my weight capacity was much higher, but seriously looked at the MSR's for snowshoeing. If the MSR's were rated for up to 300 lbs with the tails at the time of my purchase, I would have easily gone in a different direction. I have a pair of the MSR denali's and they are pretty loud when walking (especially on the icy snow). I haven't used them too much, but they worked well, when I did use them. I weigh about 150 and if I used them more often I probably would consider getting the extra flotation tails. As totem said, they are very maneuverable, and I like the bindings. I wear a size 12 boot and they just barely fit into it. I bought them with the intent to do some winter hiking in the Adirondacks, it never really panned out though, so I just used them around the house and on some nearby trails. Maybe this year!
  7. I don't know about the Catskills, it doesn't say you can't. I see there are other caches around there, so I would assume it's ok. I would check with your reviewer first to make sure though!
  8. You aren't allowed to place any caches in the Eastern or Western High Peaks. The following is from New York Admin's profile page: "We have been asked by New York State DEC to NOT place caches on mountain tops or right at the overlooks. Please keep caches below the tree line. All caches MUST be marked GEOCACHE. No caches may be place in the Western High Peaks region (zone B ) or the Eastern High Peaks region (zone C).Both high peaks regions may be identified on a DEC map here."
  9. I'm pretty sure you can only do one at a time, or all of them at once. You should be able to click clear all field notes or something like that. I'm not sure if that's what you want though.
  10. I would assume that you could add the geocaches as via points along your trip, at least that's what I did with our Garmin Nuvi. It will route you to the caches first, but keep you on your way to your final destination.
  11. Alright, So first go to your profile page and click, "create create a route." Then enter your starting point and destination. Press search. Then adjust your search radius and press save. It should open a new page with your route information. Click "Create Pocket Query," it's near the bottom. It should open a new page. Adjust the settings to what you want and then press "submit information." This should do the trick
  12. Most of the "seasonal" roads technically close November 1, but they aren't blocked off or anything, it's up to you if you want to drive on them. Since you're going in November I don't think you should have too much to worry about, unless it snows.
  13. Well, I don't really know much about the Syracuse area. But I live in Naples, near The Spot. I personally haven't found it yet. It is on my to-do list. There are some really nice hiking trails, and waterfalls around Naples. There is High Tor WMA, Grimes Glen, Tannery Creek and other places. All three of those have caches on them. There is a nice lookout along Rt 21, and another lookout on County road 12, both are on the way from Canadaigua to Naples, both have caches. I imagine it will be beautiful with the fall colors coming in. There are some other caches in the village and just outside of town (some are mine). Good choice with Dinosaur BBQ! Just my 2 cents. edit: I didn't realize that you were coming in November. The foliage probably won't be as nice, but it's still a really nice area.
  14. I use Google Chrome. It seems to open most websites faster, at least for me. The only issue I have with it is that as of now it has very little support for plugins and addons so the "send to GPS" feature doesn't work for my PN40. But that's why I also have Firefox!
  15. Are you signed into to your geocaching account, through Cache Register. Click the little gear in the upper right hand corner and make sure that you're logged in. If you aren't then you wont be able to see any of your PQs.
  16. Go to your profile (www.geocaching.com/my/) and click the link "visit log" next to the cache that has two logs. Then click "delete log," it's in just above your log. In the future you may find it easier to just log a "note" after your "found it" log, and say something like "TB drop." Hopefully this helps!
  17. I went out and got the TB this morning, and emailed the owner!
