  1. Has anybody looked into going for these two long unfound ones... they used to have a backcountry day that allowed closer access by vehicle although the last time I tried I wasn't able to pull anything up on that. Also, it looks like bikes are only allowed so far out there. Paradise Lost by dmaclach (GCJ9XV) Jackrabbit Lake by Semi-Hex(GCJA78)
  2. How about another hint so we can torment the Nazgul some more?
  3. So as I was searching for ND's new Oregon Cache up on Skyline(with adrenaline pumping knowing there was a shiny new WA geocoin in there) my gps zero'd over 1000 feet away, if not more?? It took about an hour and mutliple power cycles for the thing to settle down. Then today at Ardenwood it was telling me a cache that was 30 feet away was nearly 500 feet away... anybody had any experiences like that before? Was there a major solar flare in the last two days?? Can I use this when explaining to the big boss why I need a 60cs? Are they really any better in these circumstances?
  4. I'm up for camping and if I bring the trailer I have room for at least 2 other people(or two couples) assuming people want a bed each. I've got a large tent that sleeps 4 people comfortably as well if people need camping gear. FRS radios are a good idea, we bring along three of them when we are out camping to keep track of the kids.
  5. I'm up for a road trip and Monday's off are easy for me. If I have my new truck(my current one won't make it without long stops to refill the radiator and my wife won't let me take the durango) I'll volunteer to drive a group up there as well, could even drag the pop-up along, it sleeps 6. I guess this means there won't be an APE cache near here anytime soon
  6. Not sure really... I have lived here all of my life but now I am seeing more stuff than I have ever seen lately, granted caching is getting me out more but as a kid we essentially lived up in the hills around Stevens Creek. I saw another bobcat(maybe the same one that I posted here) on the way up to Woods Cache in Sierra Azul on Saturday. Mt. lions are the ones that really freak me out though... they get you from behind and they fight until you knock them out or kill them. On a lighter note: has Marky been successful uploading coords into the Zire / Tom Tom system or does anyone know of a PDA based system that would allow that? Preferrably I'd like a wifi capable system and I'll help build up WeBeDnD's list of free wifi spots. Anybody doing something like that?
  7. Another message from Marlin: A mountain lion was shot and killed in or near Alum Rock park last night. I can't find any links but I'll post one if I do. Found this kinda freaky story: link
  8. Besides an awesome hiking/biking/caching trail FTF hunts are the best and usually produce the most memorable stories. That one looks like it ranks up there as one of the most memorable FTF hunts ever. Certainly a good story. and now I know why I found two caches there. Let's hope Joe returns!
  9. I saw that amazingly fast disappearing cache. I've always wondered why someone would walk off with a box(cache) that is essentially worthless to them?
  10. received my order of bison tubes very quickly and at a good price... thanks!
  11. Joani has how many of those blinkin things?? They seem to be spreading across the valley now :-)
  12. My Got Screams? cache was found pretty quickly, not as fast but close. It is certainly crazy around here sometimes. July 11, 2004 by bullit (677 found) Well, that must be some sort of record. We hid the cache today around 2:30 PM and then went off to look for Agnew's Park and Toadally Bowers. I got home, filled out and submitted the cache page at 4:50 PM. The listing was approved at 5:09 PM (19 minutes!) and Mauison found it at 6:36 PM. Four hours from hide to First Find or 1:27 from posting to FTF! Cudos to Westcoastadmin for a very prompt approval and congratulations to Mauison on their first two FTFs today! but you had three cachers out there that quick... I was only 1 mile away but had to wait an hour before getting out there because of a meeting but otherwise I might have bumped into you guys as you were submitting the page :-)
  13. I concur with Nazgul... I'll be keeping my puny collection at home for quite some time as well Very impressive and great job on the pages, good fun to browse through.
  14. Yep, he touched it while searching for the cache
  15. Yeah, I know, I'm beginning to sound like Marlin Perkins off of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom huh?
  16. My brother-in-law Tech-E ran into a young rattler(two or three buttons) up in Alum Rock today at Inspiration Point... he actually swept across it with his hand clearing out some leaves. It was too cold for the snake to do much but it is a reminder to be careful out there. I haven't ever seen a rattler in the winter so this was a wake up call for me.
  17. The other week it was a bobcat, this week it was a pair of coyotes. We ran into this guy(and what looked like his smaller mate) just below our new Maisie's Peak cache in Fremont Older Preserve yesterday.
  18. Hanna's coronation is an anagram for the park that the lego cache is in... just an extra hint :-) Don't worry I had no clue where two of the other hides were and I got lucky on cache #1298(digitalfish)
  19. The precious is safely resting now... let us hope we do not miss "Hanna's coronation"
  20. At three hours after sunrise on the next day The Precious will be passed on. We met a friend today who told us about a strange man: "Son of Thranduil, Lord of the Elves of Mirkwood. He set out from Rivendell with the Company of the Ring, and journeyed with Aragorn and Gimli through the southern lands of Middle-earth during the War of the Ring; he fought at the Battles of the Hornburg and the Pelennor Fields. "
  21. The precious is safely in my hands, since the Nazgul has left for the deserts we will hold it for.....
  22. We left at first light today to ensure the precious did not fall into the Nazgul's hands. We have the Precious in the northern realm... unfortunately one of my party became entranced, she put the ring on and disappeared. I know of her plans and will retrieve the Precious while she is sleeping.
  23. 20 for me and as I recall that was a very long day.... just got 7 in one hour tonight when 7 new ones popped up close to home
  24. Actually I think that's the Aptos Safeway. I second Nazgul's question, I have a big baggy full of sig items that my non-caching wife is threatening to throw away I have to take some of these fish up to WalruZ's cache someday.
  25. I think it was called the Aptos times. The girls picked it up at the Safeway in Rio Del Mar... one of those freebie jobbers.
