  1. Maybe you could place a new cache or replace the old one and hide in the bushes waiting for the muggler to come swipe it. What you'd do after that, I have no idea.
  2. Unfortunatley, they are not available in stores. You'll either have to come down to my neck of the woods in hopes of finding one in a cache, or I'd be willing to trade for other unique/homemade sig items. I've only made a handful, but I'm looking into obtaining some illegal immigrant or child labor to mass produce them. Informative web page for runes. Check your email, doc.
  3. My new sig item is a Geocaching bindrune. A bindrune is a combination of two or more runes in a design representing the power of the individual runes used to benifit the user. Basically it's a good luck charm. I used Ansuz, the signal rune; Raido, the journey rune; and Wunjo, the joy rune. These are for good satellite reception, a pleasant trip, and a happy ending. The idea is to attach it to your GPS to ensure a good outing. It's made from sculpey and hemp chord. Here's a picture. Questions or comments?
  4. That's actually a pretty funny one. To bad I already voted.
  5. Well, that's interesting. (Email replied to.)
  6. Gotcha. I think it's a driver software problem- even though I got it from the palm website. I do what the instructions tell me to do, it's listed in device mananger, but when I hook it up, it can't find it, even when I point the computer straight to it. Thanks to everyone for your help, but I think I'm giving up.
  7. I've always liked your name. I noticed it the other day and thought it was cool. It conveys who you are and what you get a kick out of. DON"T EVER CHANGE DAVE!
  8. I've had a Lock-n-Lock container hidden for a couple of years now and it has yet to leak. I've also used the rubbermaid containers with the blue ringed lid with much sucess. I agree with what's been said above. Find a few caches before you plant your own. The only limit to hiding spots is your imagination and level of deviousness. I'm fixing to put one out somewhere and throw in my old GPS as swag.
  9. Make sure you click the "Append To list" button when you open a new file. It should then add your new file to one already displayed. I just got my 210 in, so add my name to the list. I'm stepping up from a Magellan 2000 so I'm pretty pleased. I don't have any extra maps loaded onto it and my schedule hasn't allowed me to try it out in the field, but just playing around with it I'm very pleased. I did have some trouble downloading Benchmarks onto it using the Magellan geocaching sotware. The file was there but none of the locations showed up. I think it's because the GPS requires a name for each waypoint and Benchmarks don't have one.
  10. How can I tell which COM port it's looking at? I started over from scratch last night. The driver is installed. I plug in the cradle and it recognizes the Palm. Everything looks good. I check the Device Manager and it says everything is working. I hit hotsync and nothing. I'm stymied.
  11. Got it. two different kinds. Still no worky. I'm glad to hear that someone can get it to work. did you have to change anything on the Palm itself? Do you have it set to "serial" for hotsync?
  12. My home computer is a laptop and doesn't have the serial port. I'd rather not continue to use my work computer for my geocaching agenda. I've installed the USB drivers from the Palm website, but I still cannot HotSync with a USB cable. I go into the hotsync app in the Palm, but USB is not an option- only serial and modem. Can this not be done? I'm all ready to purchase cachemate and a premium membership, but if this won't work then it's a no sale.
  13. I just turned 31. Sometimes I haul my two year old along with me.
  14. EDIT: Oops... email sent. You guys should feel free to vote for me, by the way.
  15. (I posted this in the GPS forumPrevious Thread. It was sugested that I put it here. Sorry) As I see it, the most recurring topic on these boards is, "What should I get?" Can we have another forum for equipment reviews? The topics therein would be specific to a piece of geocaching equipment. For example, Someone starts a topic entitled "Review: Magellan Explorist 210" and then everyone who owns one could add their own review about it. It would be a good way to have a lot of information in an organized fashion.

  17. The big difference that we are dealing with is that these are two hobbies appeal to different people. While they both have the same general purpose (finding secret things in pretty places) letterboxing appeals to the more artsy creative type, and geocaching is for those that are mathematical/techie. I love to see hand made stamps. And I expect to find hand made stamps in the letterboxes I search for. That goes for the vast majority of letterboxers out there. This being because letterboxing pairs creativity with finding crap in the woods. For your personal stamp, I don't really mind either way. Your personal signature stamp is a reflection of you and it's up to you to decide how best to express that. Whether through a manufactured stamp or the home grown variety. Why bother making it a hybrid if you're only going to list it on gc.com? How are letterboxers going to know about it? Your going through extra effort in making a cache and then excluding the group of people who might enjoy what you've done the most? (ps. That's my old signature stamp in my avatar)
  18. One more thing about the Sea Eagle. It's rated for up to 500lbs/2 passengers. Here's a link Sea Eagle A330 New $269, Ebay- about half of that.
  19. I was thinking of making one out of mesquite as it is hard and plentiful around here. Any experiences with it?
  20. I have an inflatable SeaEagle A330. I got it for $120 off of ebay. It weighs in at around 26 lbs and sets up in about 6 minutes. It can handle ocean paddling and class 3 rapids. It's thick and sturdy and has two mounted skegs for tracking. It seats two and comes with two double paddles and a huge and efficient footpump. I'm new to kayaking myself, and have had a lot of fun with this one. I've taken it on a couple of big ponds and plan to go down a lazy rizer for a cache in the coming months.
