  1. Hi,

    Thanks for answering.

Just to be sure, if i go to the map screen then bring up the drop down

menu, then click on the "set up map" option then highlight the "#"on the second row,

then go to "detail", is that the one that you are referring to?

If so, off is not an option, just "most, more, normal, less, least".

    Thank you for your patience.

    Lewis

  2. Hi,

How do i restore the original base map in my Garmin Legend?

I installed the map source cd set to my pc then transferred

some of the mapping to the Legend.

    Thanks

  3. Welcome to Geocaching in Ontario - LOL

I'll help ya Tee off - Sorry couldn't resist.

In all seriousness, you will probably not be doing any caches in Thunder Bay on a whim so there really is no sense to have them loaded into the GPS all the time. If you plan to head out that way, load the caches in that specific area (that's the point they were trying ot get across) I usually have the caches located within 100 km loaded weekly and then load any specific trip areas we are planning on going to do a few days before we leave.

With Geocaching you always want to try to have the latest info as caches become archived (removed) for a number of reasons or new ones are added all the time, so loadign a huge area and never updating it would not be very productive anyways ad the info would quickly become outdated.

    Hope that helps,

Thats true, do not overload the gps.

Can you imagine how slow the gps would be if you loaded

I have never tried it, but i can only imagine.

say 200 coords? I always look for caches within a 35-40 kilometer range.

If i am planninhg a trip, thats different.

    Thanks

  4. I wouldnt expect everyone to change their information as the weather changes,

but it would be nice if more people indicated if the cache is accesible in the winter.

    I appreciate those who do.

I guess i am getting cabin fever, it seems that i may need to invest in a pair of snowshoes.

    Thanks everyone.

    Happy geocaching! :ninja:

  5. hi all, (great forum) i am new at geocaching and i would like to know why when people

list a geocach that they neglect to say that we have to tread through three feet of snow :D .

I have seen the symbols that include the "available in winter" snowflake but there is

never any mention of roughly how much snow to expect.

    Thanks.

  6. Is the geocaching net still going on?

    Thanks

If we were to start a net, I would do it on 80 meter, it is the best for a wide area, as in multistate, if you want to do a local, get permission from a local repeater group and schedule a time and post it.

But for Geocaching, I would probably go with the 80 meter route, since there are NOT that many of us that do both, so the wider the area you can cover the better.

Only problem is that generals and above have access to 80 meter.

  8. I am still wailting for the Legend that i ordered at Canadian Tire for $99.00.

It has been on back order since the 15th of December.

I do have a rain check.

The Walmart store in Pembroke Ontario had the legend,

the map source cd's, and a holder for the same price.

I have a rain check on this one too. :D

For those of us you out west, or anywhere in Canada. There is an online store called GPS City. They currently have the legend listed at $237.95 If any stores near you will price match (like Future shop, Canadian Tire etc.) you could get a good price, and if no stores near you will price match they don't deserve your business anyways so you can order from GPS City.

That's how I got mine from a local price match at Future Shop.

I guess most folks here probably already know about this place, but just in case....
