  1. OReviewer...I can understand what you see on maps but I did verify with the CO of how it was handled with the archiving "request" of their cache prior to posting here. I knew of the incident and wanted to make sure I had it right in the sense of how caches are being removed to create geo-trails by a certain group of individuals. My point is that this is not a "ohhh..we took a misstep." We know this to be a "third offense" which shows a pattern. A very unfavorable pattern that none to many in this forum care for.
  2. This really got my goat when I got the notices about the Griggstown caches and the event notice. This was not the way to promote geocaching. I really tried to figure out why nikcap would archive his caches and the CJCC was being taken away. The event annoyed me even more. I live ~.5 miles away from Griggstown and did not attend the event or nor will I participate in finding the caches there. The event goes against the guidelines of holding a cache event. It is rubbish. Over the last few days of reading all these posts and reflecting on previous events, another event and geotrail came to mind which the same situation happened to another local geocacher with NNJC. This preceded Griggstown. The Dukes Farm Geotrail was established with NNJC and they had a "Meet and Greet"...("laser"). The local cacher was contacted to archive his cache and really felt he was bullied. I verified this with the cacher. So...Two points make a line. A third verifies it.

I assume that every coin that I find in a cache is a traveler and have never looked whether it was marked collectible or not. MOST activated coins that you find out in the wild are there to travel and not to be added to someone's collection unless it says on the coins page specifically that you may keep it if you want. If there is any question at all contact the coin owner. I have found one activated coin that the page said it could be kept and one that the owner said if you like it he would trade it for one of yours out of about 500 trackables that I have moved. The desigination of collectible on the page is basically meaningless because different people understand it different ways. +1 - I really, really, really wish Groundspeak would sort this, but for the sake of a very, very, VERY small number of coins which truely are designated as collectible they seem to see fit to confuse and annoy everyone else with this STUPID option! I wish they would stop trying to develop new features, and fix the issues they have got right now! We really need a like button on some of these comments...lol! You cannot stop a social trend.......
  4. It is not even a FB phenom for "liking" reviews. It is a societal phenom... almost every page with blogs, reviews, rants.....has a "Was this review helpful?" Because "TFTC!" really does not help a cacher reading the logs with a find. Cachers would not have to scroll through lame logs (that seem to be the norm lately) to get meaningful advice. Only a "Yes" or check mark for an answer to "Was this review helpful?" would be appropriate. It is common sense that "TFTC!" is not helpful. This is how I see it...if you "dislike" this option...don't use it. Just like I "dislike" micros...I ignore them. -TL "Meaningful information for meaningful people"
  5. What I really like about geocaching besides great cache pages and hides are the great logs that cachers post. As I read them, I really feel then need to say "thank you" to the cacher for writing a good review of the cache. This "good" review could explain the great things about the cache or the shortcomings of the cache. I know I could send a message to the cacher but that usually takes a few more steps. I would like to see a so-called "Like" button on the logs so that we could tell them quickly that it was good. I know we would be pulling a page out of the FB structure but this is a social site with social tendencies. It gives the cache page an extra level by helping other cachers who review the logs more meaning to a cache and possibly extend the life of the cache (revising the cache to be better from good honest reviews). I know we have a Favorite system in place for the cache itself but those are limited and not many people use that because of the limitation. This is a different aspect. I would even take it a step further and add an icon to the log header of how many "likes" are in the logs. Thanks for listening!
