  1. Remember the good ole days when Docs would let a kid take his appendix home in a jar if they wanted to?
  2. Perhaps a mission to have it come to one of my caches?? I would love to take a photo of myself holding it...Thanks lol
  3. A trained Search & Rescue K9 can find in the woods a single tooth that was lost two years ago. Are you sure the hospital will just hand you the bloody piece of bone? Isn't that a biohazard? I am not sure boiling alone would clean it. Try soaking it in bleach. If it is too macabre for someone, he/she does not have to take it. A kid will not recognize it, and why would a kid be scared of a piece of bone? Thanks for everyones opinions on my posted question. As I had suspected my surgeon said NO you cant have your own bone. Citing hospital policy on the removal of "tissue" and that it would have to be "properly" disposed of.
  4. All i can say is you are succeeding in your "being a jerk" mission
  5. No...its the real thing or not at all.
  6. This sounds totally bizarre...so they actually carry around ready to drop caches in case they cant find a cache? And then drop their own cache because they either don't have the time to continue searching or think the cache is not there? HOW LAME I would delete their found log and also keep their cache container.
  7. There is always a risk that any TB will go missing.... ...that's automatically assumed as soon as it is placed into action. I'm still not sure my surgeon will even LET me have the femur head...there are guidelines for everything so I will not be shocked if he tells me....NO, you can't have your own bone. I will find out in 2 days which is the case...yea or nay. As a medic I have known for a couple years what was in store for me...it was just a matter of WHEN and how much pain I could endure. When I had the opportunity to meet someone that had already had a hip replacement...their insights were welcomed and always the same...they had endured pain for a long time...putting off the procedure for fear of the unknown. After the surgery they all stated they wish they had done it years before because now they were pain free and able to do things that were simply too painful before! THE MISSION: Arthritis awareness...a graphic example of the results of arthritis and the road to relief. To serve as encouragment to those that are suffering with arthritic hips, knees and shoulders. I would welcome any and all questions from anyone that is contemplating have the procedure done or those that have already successfully recovered and are once again enjoying life and geocaching without pain and pain medications!!
  8. Thanks for the offer Snoogans...Let me see if I can get this from my surgeon and I will be in touch! Dedmedic
  9. Geocaching has helped me realize I need to fix a problem. Bone on bone arthritis in my right hip has become to painful especially on the longer hikes or just a day of caching,,,,period. In 4 days I will have a total right hip replacement. Heres the macabre part....What do you think of making a TB out of the head of my femur which will be sawed off to make room for the new steel one? Of course I will boil it so that its clean ....too weird? Too frightening for kiddies? Surely there are no "old" threads on this one....huh?
  10. I always enjoy reading "What a beautiful spot, thanks for bringing us here" or "One of my favorites so far. Went home and figured it out...found on the 2nd visit" (although they didnt log the DNF) Least favorites are the obligatory TFTC SL...which is ok...but...COME ON..you found 6 of my caches in one day....some of which are hard to find or are placed in a beautiful, scenic area and you pasted the same log on all of them?
  11. Here you go.....don't overlook the fine details http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/thumb/...beef60673b0.jpg
  12. I don't know how many times I've had multiple DNF's on a cache only to hike, bike or kayak out to it and find out it's still there and hidden as originally hidden. I have had caches that had more DNF's then finds, I've checked it a dozen times because of what people post only to find out it's still there. I think maintenance notices should be for what they are, when a cache needs maintenance. If someone can't find a cache they can email the owner and ask them to check it, but since they don't KNOW the cache needs maintenance they should refrain from posting that it DEFINITELY DOES. That's right up there with the logs stating "We looked all around and couldn't find it, this one is probably gone". Yeah, right.... Yah, I have a cache that receives the same wrong answer at times too. Once they have found it, they realize how deceptively easy it was and do the Homer Simpson slap. Sometimes a DNF simply indicates the seeker was over thinking the hide. Depends Depends Depends......I will spend 30 mins to an hour...now if someone has hidden a micro IN THE WOODS...where we all know your coords will be bouncing and it could be 40 or more feet in any direction with literally hundreds of places to hide the dadgum thing...i may spend 30 minutes tops before I leave disgusted and log the DNF
  13. There is only one celebrity voice I would want on my Garmin Nuvi...that would be James Earl Jones....I could just imagine his voice booming out of the Nuvi saying..." Mother of GOD...you have missed the turn...Recalculating
  14. i believe my response will be to archive my caches. if they're going to cheat -and not only just cheat, but create a cheater's database, i don't want to play. Im surprised you havent gotten any messages from the regulars such as ...don't worry about it, its just a game...or..that subject has been brought up before..you need to check the thread history and not rehash and old subject.
  15. Yeah I see that a lot here too....seems you cant post a " new " topic without someone saying....we talked about that last year. But Thanks.....
  16. It does help with the "quality" of cache hides if the cacher has experienced a variety of finds. Now by saying "quality" I don't think that every cache hide needs to have a great view or be awe inspiring. I am a newbie...haven't reached 100 finds yet. I have 13 cache hides already in place and to be honest...I am not as proud of some as I am of others. I am guilty of placing some LPC's, though, the cachers that find them seem to be thankful for them. My second ever cache find was an LPC. Being new to the game...I went to the area on 3 different trips...had no idea what I was looking for and could not figure it out. Come on...we all had our first LPC didnt we? Nothing there but a light pole. When I finally discovered it, I was actually proud I figured it out. Go ahead and laugh but it made me want to find more and different types of caches. I have come to appreciate more, the caches that require at least a hunt, or, are cleverly placed with an unusual container...even if its a log only cache...the ones I remember the most are the ones that I had trouble finding the first time and had to make a return visit or had me laughing when It finally clicked and I made the find. I can't go caching as much as I want...so having hides placed gives me the pleasure of at least reading the logs on my hides. I would rather find an LPC that is MAINTAINED than walk a half mile through a park to find, or not find, a cracked tupperware container that has a soggy log and nonexistent travel bugs and geocoins...with many notes to the CO upon a return trip back home and further inspection, crying for maintenance within the found logs. Don't shun the cacher that puts a magnetic key holder on the back of a drink machine or throws out an LPC. Think of those caches like rainy days...we need them...and they help us appreciate the sunny days even more.
  17. Im new to caching but quickly became hooked...Ive read the topics on LPC's and P&G's...one of my first cache finds was a LPC...never having hunted one of these, it took several tries before I figured out where the cache was and I found it very enjoyable. I see there are some cachers that think these types of caches are "herpes" on the geocache trail. I know opinions vary on these park & grab caches. I believe they serve their purpose...whether your traveling and just need a little break or just need a quick cache fix. I have come to enjoy the quickies and the well thought out caches that involve a good search. Different strokes for different folks...Ive hidden bison tubes...altoids cans...magnetic keyholders.....decon containers...ammo boxes....but the best comment I heard on these was...whats better for the sport? If it gets people out from in front of the TV and out into the fresh air...and hopefully with a loved one...then its a good cache.
  18. I also have found some of my decon caches that have not been properly sealed and closed...never dreamt it would be a problem...I saw this video on Youtube before I even started using them to hide caches and wondered if it was that big of a problem....apparently it is...so I enclose the link to this video on caches that are in decon containers
  19. I just recently put a new DO NOT FIND THIS CACHE into play. Its a copied idea but when I stumbled upon one in a search I actually did LOL. It requires the FTF to register the find with a 50 word "essay" on why they are NOT addicted to caching. All subsequent finders have to leave at least a 30 word "essay". the logs are hilarious. GC1M2NB OOO!!!! That gives me an idea I see on your page Dedmedic that there are about 20+ others of this type in existance. Has anyone ever seen a bookmark list of them? If you do a KEYWORD search and type in DO NOT FIND THIS CACHE...a whole list of them pops up
