  1. WOW! Thanks to everyone for all of your help, you are most kind and I appreciate the advice. Although I'm a beginner triathlete and endurance road cyclist, the wilderness is completely new to me and I can't tell you how wonderful all of you are to share your advice! Happy Caching! K
  2. Newby here (or should I say Neocacher?) I'm looking into what other kind of personal gear I need, like hydration packs, hiking shoes, hats, etc. What do other folks wear when they go out? What's the best hydration pack, shoe, do you bring walking sticks? I've taken a few tours around REI and am looking into hiking gear, is that the right place to search? I like the idea of finding caches in open, natural areas that may take me up to 10 miles on foot. Any hints to help get dressed would be great... Thanks!
  3. Me again... So, I tried to join GONIL, and of course I'm listed as a new member but I never got the email I'm supposed to get in order to activate the membership. So, I'm there, but I can't do anything. Is anyone here a member, can you help me find out whom to contact to get myself activated? Thanks! Kate
  4. dadgum. How did you all get your neat pictures here? I tried following the instructions and I'm not having any luck.
  5. Hello again, I'm having trouble finding lists of meetings, events, etc. in the Naperhood. Anyone interested in having a monthly coo at a Starbucks or Caribou? I guess Caribou would be more fitting, it being a Northwoods motif and all...any interest in the folks here?
  6. I figured out the Garming issue...as soon as I got a satellite lock, suddently I was on the right continent, on the right day and at the right time. Phew, I know I can get lost in life but was concerned this was going to be it for me. Is there a group or any interest in forming a group to meet once a month, talk about favorite places, maybe even plan a few trips to new sites?
  7. Greetings, In starting out I got all excited to finally choose my first GPS unit, and when I put in the batteries and turned it on, then followed the instructions, I can't get this thing to save and display the right date and time. I'm in Chicago, this thing thinks I'm in China, and that it's 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2005. Does anyone have any tips??? I've followed the instruction book and i don't know what to do. The only thing that I haven't had is a satellite lock on my current location; it's dark and cold outside and I'm not going out right now. Is the satellite my issue???? Please help before I return it and quit geocaching before I start.
  8. ME ME ME ME ME! I'm in Naperville, new, just bought a Garmin eTrex Legend C and because I need help I'm going to vent about it....I'm already having issues with it after 10 minutes of reading the instruction book over and over again; it thinks it's Feb. 22, 2005, and that I'm in China. Help? do you know how this works? Anyway I just joined the Yahoo groups for Chicago Geocachers and am looking to join or start a group out in Naperville. This is just such a cool thing to do!!
  9. New! I'm in Naperville, IL and would like to know of any groups out this way, and if there is none, I would like to start one. I don't even have a GPS unit yet, but I did find 2 caches in Minnesota a few years ago, so I have a basic idea of how this works. Hope to see a response! I joined a Yahoo group but there hadn't been posts in months, so hopefully I'll find other cachers somehow. I'm a return-ee to the chicago area, don't have any friends left so am anxious to meet some new people. Ta ta!
