  1. I don't have any friends to phone...so if we don't find it, we come back again and again and again.....................we have several micros that took more than 4 trips.
  2. Well I just think it's cool. You got off the couch and went and made something with your hands. Good Job! Keep it up.
  3. I cache with my wife and 13 year old daughter. We don't solve them until we get to the GZ. The little one likes to solve the puzzle and I like to sit and rest without looking like I need to sit and rest.
  4. Here is the one I have. It's a shoulder bag but this same seller has about 30 different styles and are cheaper here than anywhere else I have found. http://cgi.ebay.com/Military-US-Army-SWAT-...1742.m153.l1262 Kind of hard to beat for less than $20 including shipping.
  5. Seems like you are experiencing something normal called "bounce". Depending on many variables (tree cover being the most likely cause), your gps will be more or less accurate depending on how many satellites it can "see" at once. I suggest you go out in a field and stand still for a few minutes and see what it does.
  6. Bass Pro has one on sale now http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...5006000_325-6-0
  7. We are pretty new too. I carry a backpack with the water, snack, pens, spare batteries, cache listings (we are not paperless yet) and swag. We went to the dollar store to pick up some things to trade that are kid friendly. I have also found neat stuff to trade at the local discount tool store.
  8. Maybe it's my twisted sense of accomplishment, but so far I have not been able to ignore the ones we could not find. We will keep searching until we succeed.
  9. The plastic containers that chinese take out comes in works great. The soup containers are a quart and you can drop them full of soup and they don't spill. I have placed 1 and have 2 more ready to go. Take some sand paper and scratch the plastic and then paint with flat black/green/brown spray paint.
  10. We are about 3 weeks into our caching career and our first micro took 4 trips and about 4 hours only to learn that we were within a foot of it on our 3 previous trips. I would suggest finding some larger ones first. It is more about learning "how" to look than just using your gps. We have learned something from every found cache that has changed the way we look for the next one.
  11. Hang in there Tim. We have been out this for about 2 weeks and have found 17. 5 of those took several trips. 1 of them took 4 trips and when I found it I had been within a foot of it on the 3 previous trips. There where 4 DNF's yesterday. Once you start to find them it gets easier, I think. There are tendencies and clues to where they are hidden that you only learn by finding a few. Good Luck Fishindaddy and the crew.
  12. I would log the pathtag first, then keep it if you want. I've placed them in caches and they are more of a signature item than anything else. Since each "set" of pathtags have the same number, you just log it and that's where one of the pathtags shows up on the site (not here, but the one you mentioned.. The ones I put in caches I found were for anyone that wanted to keep it or move it to another cache and let someone else move or keep it. thanks for the info
  13. Congrats. My daughter and I started 2 weeks ago and love it. We found 9 this weekend. Can't get enough.
  14. Congrats, we are only 2 weeks ahead of you guys. This is a great hobby for the whole family.
  15. Oooo, you have done a BAD thing. You've mentioned a verboten subject. What exactly does that mean? I found them in caches from this site. Maybe someone could actually explain what they are, what you do with them, and why they are "verboten".
  16. What they said! We are very newbies too. Yesterday we found 8 out of 9 and most with no problem. Today we found 1 out of 4 and were reminded that this in not easy, but a lot of fun.
  17. We ran across out first path tags on Saturday and were not sure what to do with them so we traded them around several caches that we found. It was not until today that I looked up path tags .com that I found out that you can keep them. So what do you guys do? Keep them or trade them?
  18. I found this site in early December but did nothing but save the address. Well I stumbled across it again last night and since the weather here was going to be perfect and we had a father/daughter day planned, we had a go. Taylor, 12, is completely hooked. We printed out 7 caches that were close by and dug out my old GPS map 76 and off we went. We found 4 regular size caches and DNF 3 micros. Our first one was within plain site of the grocery store we have gone to every week for years! We had a great time and look forward to playing again next weekend.
