  1. Fridays, and an appointment is a good idea.
  2. No date restrictions are allowed, and photo requirements constitute an ALR, which are also not allowed. It seems to me that 1) The Reviewer wasn't paying attention or The page was changed after the cache was published. I'm voting for B. The best and quickest way to take care of it would be to contact the Reviewer that published the thing. The CO would only say "It got published, so I'm not gonna change anything." if you contact him/her.
  3. I don't see what the problem is, other than some folks don't like it. If you don't like the "visits" then put a not on you traveler saying so.
  4. I'm thinking that may explain it. Not impossible, I guess. Although he hasn't had Purple (to my knowledge), unless it was bootlegged.
  5. Not a safe assumption. Also, don't assume that your reviewer isn't a dog. Well if the reviewer in question is actually a dog this whole matter can be resolved to everyone's satisfaction with a box of MilkBone biscuits. Sorry Jim, the reviewer isn't a dog. In fact He's a friend of mine. Keystone, sir...any real clue what's going on?
  6. I agree that inflating the ratings can be misleading. People should be able to judge for themselves how "difficult" a Challenge is by reading the Description. Unlike a more traditional Puzzle, where the solution might not seem obvious, and the Difficulty can give you some indication how many sleepless nights it may take to solve, a Challenge Listing is usually pretty straight forward to interpret. That would be a valid reason, certainly. But this reviwer has stated that in his opinion, y "this is what should have always been."
  7. I just saw this post over on Facebook. It was written by a Reviewer. I have removed the State name in order to keep this subject on topic, and not become a witch hunt. "OK folks... On a Challenge cache, the D/T ratings are for the cache itself, not for the caches required to achieve the challenge. Example: a Fizzy Challenge located at an LPC is 1/1, not a 5/5. Please correct and challenges you have. Sometime during the next month or two I will be looking at the XXXXXXX Caches and disable those that appear to be incorrect. Thanks!" My question is this: Was there a guideline change that supports this message? Are challenge owners (like me) not supposed to rate their challenges based on the effort required to meet the criteria? Or, is this Reviewer going off on a private tangent?
  8. Don't make him out to be a good guy. He said he was gonna keep it. In fact, he kept it for 7 months. That makes him a thief. Granted, not a particularly good thief, but still a thief. Broadcasting your plans at chicanery is not a real bright think to do. He did exactly that, got a blast from a lot of people. I suspect lots more than there were in this thread. And something forced his hand to return what he had swiped.
  9. Up in my area, some of the Reviewers have taken to disabling a cache simply because it hasn't been found in several months. There were no NM or NA logs on the pages, just the standard love note to get out and check on it. A long time cacher here got one of those notes on a cache. It was right where it's supposed to be, but the noobie Reviewer went a bit overboard. The Co in this tale pretty much told the Reviewer to find something useful to do. That pretty much ended that donnybrook. The cache is still out there, too. Since when is there a maximum time that can pass between finds? I have a cache that has only been found twice in 7 months. It's not a hard cache to find (it's a challenge cache), but the requirements are kinda tough. When can I expect to get the note? Or, have some of the Dog Reviewers escaped the fences?
  10. I noticed that the OP didn't wait the two weeks he thinks is the official maximum a traveler can be held. Oh no, he posted on the tb page telling the kid to release the precious 5 days after he picked it up. I can readily imagine what the e-mails must have sounded like. I also saw that on 10/1, a player not directly involved in any of this, decided to threaten the boy with Groundspeak attention over this whole thing because they would notice it in the forums, and face a reprimand from the Lilly Pad. Groundspeak isn't likely to get involved, they don't have that sort of spare time. If you can't think of any other way to spend your time that make veiled threats that you are in no position to make, to a kid in Texas, from the safety of the UK, over a matter that does not concern you, find something else to do. Somewhere else.
  11. If an activation code has been retrieved once, you're pretty much SOL on getting them via a web site, whether it's Oakcoins, Coins and Pins, or Groundspeak. You're only good alternative is to e-mail GS at contact@geocaching.com and ask them for help. It has worked for me a number of times in the past. As recently as two weeks ago.
  12. Maybe all of you folks that were so quick to sharpen the pitchforks and light the torches could get on here as quickly and thank the people that got called in on their day off to fix this. Contrary to what some people seem to think, the Lackeys have lives to live, just like all of us.
  13. When did 1--count 'em, 1 NM long justify a 4-week countdown to archive note from a Reviewer? Looky here. http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCNMJM_track-the-dragon-estuary-chimacum?utm_expid=3682814-19&guid=89b34378-3d8f-4423-8990-1ee23c10c9d0&utm_referrer=http%3a%2f%2fwww.geocaching.com%2fseek%2fnearest.aspx%3ftx%3d32bc9333-5e52-4957-b0f6-5a2c8fc7b257%26u%3dNana%2bBear There is a NM in April, and nothing until the Reviewer log in June. And yes, I do see what the NM log says. I'm guessing that unless there is a change in the way Reviewers are notified, someone e-mailed a complaint to the Reviewers' Cave..
  14. Please give your Dad my best wishes.
  15. Really?? You had to bring this into the discussion?? What we're talking about are the old days, when a trackable coin meant one of Jon's, and that was about it. No one said anything about selling anything. As others have said, it's this obsession with $$ and trackability that caused me to pretty much bail out. Nearly all of the coins I made were non-trackable. Only 2 went to the dark side. I miss the old days of trading and making friends. I still have my Laval K-9 doghouse, Mertat, Kealia/Hula Bum, and a host of others from then. It took me years to track down a Mertat. The K/HB I found in a cache up here, and the Doghouse was got in a trade with Laval. I miss the old hands, and the old days. Nice to see you guys again.
  16. You would think this topic would someday go away. It pops up every so often, and always with the same results. There's never gonna be a test (or whatever term you want to use). Everyone has to learn the game (it IS a game, remember) on the fly. And finally, how many would have taken this test if it had been around when they started? And be honest---none of this business "it would make the game better". Remember how you thought back then.
  17. It's their park, so it's their rules. I can only suppose that any other parks in the same system (County, State, etc) would also charge a fee per cache. Folks bellowing how they (the park) can't charge a fee are most likely not aware of the local laws in your area. A law here in Washington State probably won't apply to you, why would the laws from anywhere else. The "we have a right" crowd are the ones that tend to get Geocaching in trouble. It's a public park isn't necessarily a good line to use. The park managers have to answer to their bosses, who might not really care if someone wants to play a (hopefully) harmless game in their park. If talking to them doesn't help, and I doubt it will, move on. There doesn't have to be a cache in every park on the planet.
  18. While in San Diego one time, I pulled into a road-side parking area only to see a Police car sitting there behind me. Since my parking was legal, and I wanted to go find the cache, I ambled back to talk to him (with my hands in plain sight). He had heard of caching, so I told him that the one I was after was about 80 feet down that real steep hill. There wasn't any sort of trail, so it was gonna be a case of gravity working to get down there, and then making a bit of a nasty climb out. So, since I had ruined his speed trap for the day, he decided to stick around to make sure I got back to the top. I thanked him profusely, and took off down the hill.
  19. Won't make a bit of difference if someone decides to sue. If the property owner says no, then that's it.
  20. Starting to think about getting a new gizmo, and I'm looking strongly at the Oregon 600-650 series machines. Whataya think of them? Good and bad.
  21. I developed the habit of saying what I think of a cache fairly early on. I was finding crap caches within the first couple of years. So, I determined that if IMO, a cache was a piece of stuff, I would spell out the problems. And post a NM long to boot. In extreme cases, I'll post a NA. In the mad rush to be #2000000, there were a ton of micros, most likely lame, or in the woods set out here. Mostly by noobs. Too many players are too caught up in find and hide numbers, and let's face it, there are only so many good or clever places to put a cache.
  22. About half the time, I'm getting the subject error page when I'm trying to look at a cache page. Everything was fine until about 10 minutes ago, and then...boom! nothing.
