  1. Your Alien series caches were some of my favorite hunts. I am very sorry to see you go. At least I managed to finish the Alien series in time. When I took my brother to the Tanda Park cache, he was stunned at the size of the container. guess they don't have that sort of ambition in Texas. Hopefully, whoever caused you so much heartburn will dry up and blow away soon. Maybe take up another hobby, like alligator rasslin'.
  2. And I thought it was because "Boxes of stuff laying around" was already taken. Thanks for the history lesson.
  3. We did a Hawaiian cruise this last spring and cached at every port. It was the best part of the whole trip! We saw things that no one else on our ship saw. At dinner every night we'd tell lusty tales of what we'd done...they got on the bus, got off the bus, got on the bus, got off the bus. I highly recommend caching in the ports when you can. In our case we rented a car at each stop and it was worth all the trouble and cost.

    Geo Luau

The Geo Luau is full steam ahead. Come rain or shine, cachers or not. Looks like it might be a small turn out but that's okay. There's going to be kalua pig and other foods that are bad for you. We'll be there the whole time so if you just want to swing by and sign the log that's fine. Next year the luau will, keeping fingers crossed, on August 13th. Mark your calendars! ALOHA!
  5. Okay...who's sorry I brought this up? Hands?
  6. Tanda1701 has/had some great caches in Kitsap County but one day they were all archived. Now, today (8/24) they all have 'finds' on them from tanda1701 with odd little messages like 'got your nose' and 'lol'. Anyone have a clue what's going on with them?
  7. Just ordered four. One for me, and three for some trips around the US that we have planned. They are beautiful. Since I will be wanting to order more in the not too distant future, what are the parameters for sending a check the next time?
  8. My favorite item has been a mid-sized multi tool, similar to the Leatherman. It stays in my caching bag, has been used a lot since then.
  9. You're not sure if the Luau is your first event? When I posted this in the first place, it hadn't been approved yet.....
  10. Since the Geo Luau is my first event, I have a question. I have seen some event hosts claim a find on their own event. Is this kosher?? Opinions please, not lectures.

    Geo Luau

We are planning a Geo Luau at Harper Park, between Southworh and Port Orchard. It is scheduled for September 11, from 11am to 6pm. Dogs and kids are welcome. This is a County Park, so alcohol is a no-no. The cache was submitted tonight for review, and assuming it gets approved, I'll post the link here in the forum, also. This is the Event we were talking about when we asked you-all about your dogs. Hope to see you there. (Edit 8/19) As promised, here's the link. GeoLuau
  12. I noodled around with several ideas, but could't settle on anything. Then, it hit me. I am known at work by the shirts that I wear. No small feat when you consider that there are 7000+ people working there. Add to that the simple fact that I collect Aloha shirts, and there you are. The next one I use will most likely be a Tiki of some sort.
  13. The zip for Manchester is 98353. If you take the Southworth Ferry over from Seattle, you'll make landfall about 4 miles or so from Manchester.
  14. As suspected this cache wasn't approved because it didn't meet the guidelines for event caches. Oh well, it was worth a shot. There probably won't be a booth, either. On the other hand...if you have some time to spare and would like to find a few easy caches in the Manchester area you can make a nice day of it by finding Colchester Park, Welcome to Manchester and Thanks to the Veterans. While you're in the area stop by the Manchester Festival located downtown Manchester in the Kitsap Regional Library parking lot. Just go down Colchester to the end of the road and it's right in front of you. There's going to be kids carnival games that are inexpensive and easy to win. Some are a prize every time game. We'll have a BBQ booth and a good number of local people's crafts and merchandise booths. At noon the library will be presenting the chidren's parade around the parking lot. Kids dress up, decorate their bikes and wagons..they even dress up their dogs and parade around the parking lot. Barnarby Bear from the library system will be on hand to lead the parade. There are several silent auction items including an HO John Deere train. If you'd like to see what happened at last year's Manchester Festival as well as some of the other Manchester Community Association sponsored events just check out www.manchesterca.org
  15. As of 8AM, Monday the 16th this event has not been approved. There is a possibility that it won't be approved. If that's the case then there will be no event cache at the Manchester Festival to claim but there will be a small booth that will have information on GeoCaching. Hope to get to put some faces with names! Drop by the booth if you can.
  16. The Manchester Community Association will be throwing their annual Manchester Festival on August 28 from 10am to 3pm. I am planning to have an Event Cache there. One, cuz I wanna have an event, and two, to hopefully get more people interested in the Game. If anyone knows someone that is showing an interest in the game, please bring them out to the festival. I submitted the write-up tonight, and hopefully, it will get approved tomorrow. The listing is here.
  17. Two best things I ever read about dogs.... Quoting a dog "If you only knew how much I smell you" and (here I am paraphrasing) "Good dogs don't live long enough. It's their only failing really."
  18. I have passed up several travel bugs (one was just the tag on it's chain!) because I don't know where they're going. I hated doing that because I know how frustrating it is for a TB to stay in a cache for months on end. Currently I have one stuck in a 3/5 cache in Hawaii! The Mokoli‘i Madness cache isn't hit often and when it was they didn't pick the bug up! ARGGGG! Lately I've been picking up all the bugs I find and moving them around. If they don't have travel documents I'll make up a card, laminate it and attach it to the tag. It lets other cachers know where it's going and it's a small thing to do to keep the game going.
  19. If the party is a go and if I can get the Mrs. to make the costume I'm going as a stump!...complete with a cache! The Mrs. is going as a cow...a cache-cow!
  20. Is this a 'GO'? If it is...I gotta start working on a costume!
  21. Just so's everyone's clear on how Cranky and I stand on dogs...... As a general rule, we like them more than we do most of the people we've met. Naturally, there are some dogs that one or the other of us just coulcn't stand, but that's also true of some of the humans that we have dealt with over the years. It all comes down to training........ So, the bottom line is, wherever we have an event this year, or next, rest assured that your dogs are every bit as welcome as you are. For the one next year, we will have to get a waiver. If, for some reason, you just can't stand to be around dogs, then, I'm sorry to say, this will not be something you'll enjoy As Cranky alluded to, we are planning (hoping) to host one on the 11th. If, for some reason, we can't, I'll post a notice here. Since the County parks close at sunset, I hope that those with daytime commitments can make it in time. As soon as we can get the details ironed out, I'll get the info to the reviewers. We are looking forward to meeting you-all
  22. It didn't dawn on me what the 11th was...it's the anniversary date of the terrorist attacks. DOH! Does anyone think it's bad taste to hold a luau on that day? Or is it time to remember but move on?
  23. Did a little checking and here's what I found... Jorstad Park, which is perfect but doesn't allow dogs is booked up for the entire summer so it's a moot point this year. I was told that I could talk to the council who runs that park and ask for a waiver on the dog issue. I will try that route for an '05 summer event and see how far I get. The Mrs (who ironically is from Oregon and I have nicknamed her 'Cranky') and I are thinking about an end of summer luau at Harper Park. There are no electric hook-ups, no running water and only a port-a-potty but there's a covered eating area, nice hiking trails with 3 caches in within a short walk and it's shaded in the afternoon. We are going to iron out the details within the next couple of days and, if we think we can pull it off we'll shoot for the second weekend of September. It will be a dog and kid friendly event. How does that sound?
  24. It is the park that the Cootie Cache is in. It seems to have everything we'd need but the no dogs rule just about knocks it off the list. I'm going to call to see if we can get around that rule somehow. I'll keep everyone posted.
