  1. That's what I was wondering too but, ironically, when I returned back from my trip, I fired up the Palm and now it's working. Maybe it missed me. Still thinking it might be on its way out, though, so I've been scouring eBay. Thx for your reply, Knight2000!
  2. Howdy all. I'm on my way to Maryland for a few days and hoped to get some paperless geocaching in before my Palm m130 started acting up. My screen goes out after a few seconds outside of the cradle although it works fine in the cradle however I'm seeing some pixelation on the screen. Functions just fine in the cradle. I've done a quick Google search but no dice. I've also done a hard reset but no good. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Going back to paper for now! Thx much! Regards, Kory
  3. WTG, Tom4Props! Truly a heartfelt contribution. Thanks for sharing!
  4. I actually bought my Palm m130 on eBay for $20. You could probably find a Palm III or Vx but you probably want something you can add an expansion card in. My m130 holds 8Mb of data and my GSAK databases are about 1.5Mb in size so plenty of room left! I also use CacheMate to manage the cache data. $10 to register and very much worth it. Hope this helps!
  5. Wow, thx much for the excellent replies, everyone! I stand corrected, of course. Yes, I was thinking of the 1st generation iPhone and not the 3G version. jho135, thx for the great explanation of how the signal works between the various environments. Very helpful! SkellyCA, I've heard that Sprint has a bunch of "pockets" across various areas so that would obviously be a concern for me, especially if I'd consider going caching in remote locations. Patuxent (as in "Patuxent River"? ), I hadn't thought of the G1 for caching. Would you share a bit more about your experience with it and with T-Mobile in general? Andrew16v, the screenshots are insanely helpful! Thx for doing that! That's certainly putting the iPhone a leg up for me, especially since I found out I could get a refurbished 3G model (8Gb) for $100. Was a bit leery about spending $200 for one but I might be able to do the $100. I'm trying to keep my number of gadgets as low as possible but if I could carry the phone and my eTrex Legend (hoping to upgrade to a Venture HC but that's another topic), I'd do away with the old Palm Pilot. MoonPhoenix, I greatly appreciate your input on Sprint! I didn't realize they're using VZW as their main network. Now that they've activated MMS on the Blackberry, how does it work for GPS and geocaching? Would you mind expanding on your experience with it? (I like your Ford vs. Chevy analogy. Yep, that's what I gathered!) Thanks again all! Regards, Kory
  6. Howdy all. I hope this is the right forum to ask this question. If not, please feel free to move, of course. My VZW contract is up next month and, although I've been with them for five+ years, I'm considering switching to another provider that makes better use of GPS, specifically for geocaching. I've heard good things about Sprint, especially with this announcement and they seem to have a nice mobile broadband plan to boot. I could stay with VZW but heard their VZ Navigator is really flaky for GPS usage. I'd also be open to some kind of data plan with a Blackberry. Not really all that interested in an iPhone because I've heard the GPS is a bit dicey since it's cellular based and not satellite based. Oh, also wanted to mention that I use CacheMate on a Palm m130 and GSAK. Thanks much, in advance, for any insight anyone might offer! Regards, Kory
  7. Great profile, BBI Dragon! Lots of great insights in there. Your rescue terriers might have a lot of fun with caching, especially in preparing them for new families! I like the idea of a non-traditional trackable on Hussi (my dog), however, from what I've read and learned, the ink on a TB's dogtag might wear off under heavy use. She's constantly darting in and out of brush so I'm pretty sure the ink would rub off eventually. I think I'll probably see if there are any GeoDog coins around and pick one up for her. Been doing some research over the last few days and haven't found any yet.
  8. Thx much, Robert! Yup, I'm just going to get her a sigitem and invite other cachers to track her that way. Sounds like the easiest thing to do.
  9. Wow, looks like Nuka was dragging your husband there for a sec! LOL!
  10. I wanna play too! Here are four pictures of my Bouvier (des Flandres) dog, Hussi. She'll be two in July. My parents breed and raise Bouviers and are specializing in the fawn color. Here's their website address if anyone's interested in learning more about the breed. I've also posted a short video on their website displaying just how obedient and dedicated she is (yes, I'm biased!) Hussi's been geocaching with me ever since I just started last Fall. I'm considering getting her a trackable geocoin so anyone we encounter will be able to track her. She's "sniffed" out quite a few caches and especially loves it when the kids come along! She's truly and outdoors dog, although I cringe when her coat gets wet as it basically turns into concrete and I have to demat it! Here's Hussi along with my four children while caching just last weekend when we found "Mad Hikers 1st." Here's a shot of her after she sniffed out this one. My secret weapon. Yet another cache she found. (My shadow's pointing to it!) Finally, here's her enjoying a bit of "downtime" in the snow. And here's the video!
  11. Wow!! Thanks so much to y'all for your excellent responses and feedback! Based on what everyone wrote, I think the best thing for me to do is get a trackable geocoin for Hussi and anyone we encounter is invited to track her. I could see where dropping her into every cache might eventually get a little daunting as you mentioned, Laval K-9. drneal, I really like your coin. Is it an impression of the pic on your profile? Not sure if I can find any Bouvier-type geocoins but I'm wondering if I can get one custom-made, if that's what you did (unless that came from the contest you mentioned that I'll surely enter, thx!) Thx for your kind words as well, TeamAmaroo! Hussi's pretty "technically inclined." I think I'll skip the "double dipping," as it might get a bit convoluted after awhile. I thought about getting a t-shirt like that too, Droo, along with a TB sticker for the car. I drive a Forester which is quickly turning into a "cache buggy." I came across a few dog TB's for some ideas so will surely add her pic so she's recognizable. Thx again, everyone!
  12. Howdy all! I'm very interested in getting a trackable geocoin for my dog (who's also on my profile page) as she goes along with me on just about every hunt. I've perused through the forum here and got some ideas on where to get a coin for her but am not very clear on how she would become trackable. Is it an idea that anyone we come in contact with could record her ID number? Is it possible for her to "leave" her ID number at every cache we find (recording and logging is what I'm not clear on). Pretty newbie type questions, for sure, so I'd appreciate any insight anyone might offer. Thx much! Regards, Kory aka KoryFer
  13. Howdy all. Is anyone else having a problem with Coord.info messages not posting to Twitter? I'm successfully receiving confirmation from TextMarks when the messages post but they don't seem to be making it to Twitter. Just wondering if this might be due to a possible (yet another) change to Twitter's API? Thx much!
