  1. One suggestion I've seen posted is to make an arrangement with the other cacher(s) that whoever finds the cache first, should casually walk away from it as though still searching and then when several yards away, announce the find. Then the non-finder can leave the immediate area so as not to see the cache retrieval. When the first cachers are done, the other cacher can resume searching. This way little time is lost in non-search mode (ie, one cacher leaving area while the other searches since this way they are still both searching) and also each cacher can claim the find legitimately, without feeling they had it handed to them. It wouldn't take much effort to implement in most cases and I can't see a reasonable cacher refusing to cooperate.
  2. Wow! Now THAT'S service! I hope you didn't get too much piggy slobber on Jeremy's tush with that one.
  3. Uh, oh. Now ya done did it. Actually I didn't - but I figured I wasn't the only one thinking that.... All's fair in love and spam.... sd I really wasn't suggesting that you had. I only meant that you had planted the seed in the minds of people (like me) who hadn't already thought of it. But now that the idea is in my head, I wouldn't dream of doing that. Really I wouldn't.
  4. Uh, oh. Now ya done did it.
  5. If you look at the last paragraph of the original post, he doesn't live in Oregon. And I don't think it is possible to send bulk email through gc.com. I believe he had to send each one individually.
  6. SNOW!! Omigawd!! I love Florida! I don't care how humid it gets! I feel the same way about Southern Calif. And we don't have humidity.
  7. There was a cache I found that turned up missing later. A cacher was unable to return it to it's hiding place without being seen, so he took it with him, intending to return it in the next day or so. In the meantime, someone logged a DNF. The first guy felt bad that the second cacher hunted for nothing, but it was better than him risking being seen by a muggle.
  8. LOL! Too late...he's already hooked. He's a victim....er...participant. Yeah, that's it....participant in this wonderful, healthy, family friendly hobby that we are all addicted to. Well, what the heck. If you're going to be addicted to something, it might as well be caching. Congrats on your first find. It feels great, doesn't it?
  9. Personally I'm not bothered by the FTF mega-seekers. If it gives them status, real or imagined, more power to them. I've never been FTF and I'm not dashing out at 3am to try. If it happens some day, that's great. But I enjoy every hunt anyway and that's what matters. If FTF means something to you, you just have to do what it takes to make it happen. Me? I'd rather sleep in.
  10. Naw, he was supposed to return on the 20th anniversary of his death, but he was a no show.
  11. And here's a link to a thread that is a little more detailed. Logging a find And welcome to this obsession called geocaching.
  12. Why didn't I think of that. Of course, an "I'd rather be geocaching" window/bumpersticker. Perfect. Or maybe on a license plate frame. They have them for every other sport. I'd buy one of those.
  13. LOL. It would definitely depend on what state you're in. I have 2554 within 50 miles of me. So far I've found a whopping 17. I will be busy for quite some time. I don't intend to hunt them all, of course. I've already decided to stay away from parking lot stop-and-grabs. And there are bunches that require more hiking skills than I possess.
  14. Nature and books belong to the eyes that see them. ~Emerson~
  15. It always comes down to frequency with you men, doesn't it?
  16. How wonderful it was of both you and your vet to show that kindness to Max by allowing him to spend his last moments in familiar surroundings. I couldn't get through the poem with out crying. I will pass it on to others in the future who are facing the heart breaking decision of putting down a beloved pet. It's amazing how a furry, four-footed critter can wrap their paws around our hearts.
  17. Oh, that gave me an idea for an insulated commuter mug to keep the high octane java juice warm while driving from cache to cache.
  18. That reminds me......my paternal grandmother (whom I never met) was from Hungary and when my older sister was very young, our grandmother would tell her to "use your pretty hand" whenever she saw my sister doing things with her left. Old world mentality. It used to get our mother mad.
  19. I agree. Along with the fact that if it's not logged online, the rest of us miss the opportunity to read about the find. I have only found one regular sized cache so far. The rest have been virts and micros. Only enough room for name and date in a micro, but that doesn't mean it was a micro sized experience. Logging online is a courtesy to the whole community in my opinion.
  20. Interesting how the name came to be. I assumed it was sponsered by Rogaine, although I couldn't figure out WHY. Thanks for the info.
  21. It's down to 15,100.00 and he has it set up so he can pre-approve the bids. And he has even received offers for radio and TV appearances. This thing has a life of it's own. I bet his ex is peed off. I just looked at the bid history. It's funny to read the reasons on the bid retractions. "Entered wrong bid amount". Sure you did. "Too low of feedback". Like you didn't notice his feedback rating BEFORE you bid? Excuses, excuses. A bunch of people backpedaled real fast. And to keep this on topic....Mopar, you better hurry up. Less than 4 hours to go.
  22. It's down to 888,988.00 now. The most stupidist bids got retracted. It has over 1.75 million views. I'd like to know how many sites/forums have posted his ebay link. The current bidder (as of 230am west coast time) has zero feedback, but the next highest is an established ebayer. Retracting a bid will be a black mark on his profile. It's a very clever ad. At least the guy still has humor through all of his life's problems. I think it's funny that he started the bidding at 1.00. He'll end up with a good price for it, I'm sure. Plenty enough for sports tickets and beer.
