  1. Yes I have a post there, but no response. I really think it is Windows 8 thing because I didn't have issues with Window XP.
  2. I got a new computer and it has Windows 8. When I try to upload "Field Notes" I can't find them in browse. I look through the Downloads file and nothing. On my GPS it appears they get transferred to the computer but can't find them. Also the computer doesn't seem to recognize the unit as it doesn't so up on the computer extensions. But it does do "send to GPS" (from cache page) just fine. So it looks like I can send but not receive.
  3. I am new to Wherigo, although caching for many years. Right off the bat my first complaint is search methods. WHY can't you search by GC code???? WHY can't you search by NAME???? KEYWORD is an absolute joke. Inerfaceing with my Android Galaxy Tab 2 is very clumsy. One good thing. I just played "Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock" (GC3PZNP) with Dr. Sheldon Cooper.
  4. I would say that most of us ARE NOT missing the point because where the OP lives is NOT the area he is questioning. In fact where the OP lives is wide open with Loads of room for caches. 1/2 a mile from the OP's home are 2 large area of undeveloped land. The OP has only placed 2 caches there in the last year, both being park and grabs. On the other hand I have recently went in there and Placed 6 caches that make use of woods and trails. What those of you that are not from the area don't understand that the OP is only interested in placing P&G's and passes up opportunities to place quality caches near their own home and then complains about what someone is doing 10 miles away. I would much rather cache in the less populated area where the OP lives but there are fewer caches out that way. It would be nice if the OP would put their efforts into placing Quality caches (not just P&Gs) near their home rather than complain about the Mega-Hider. Had the OP started a thread that was only a discussion about Saturation of an area instead of directing the issue at Mega-Hider(gsix5666), this whole thread would be a different story. Peepz, you started out saying Gsix5666 is a likable guy. That means you know that he is someone that you can talk too. YOU should have just talked to him instead of going to a public forum and bad-mouthing one of the most generous cachers most of us will ever meet. You have done yourself a true injustice and lost friends. Take note that Gsix5666 is not the type of person to deal with this in a PUBLIC forum. A forum that is filled with cachers from out of the area that have no idea of the truth of situation. That is part of what inspires others to jump to HIS defense.
  5. I know both the person who started the thread and the Hider that this is about. First let it been known the these 2 cachers live about 10 miles from each other. The "Mega Hider" lives in a vary population dense area and the person questioning this is in a more rural area by comparison. 2nd, Because of the routine of the Mega-Hide, May people come to the town where he lives for large number runs. He tends to redo his puzzles every 6 to 8 months because so many cachers have said that they like it when he does. This gives local cachers who don't have many opportunities to travel, fresh caches to hunt. There are also seem to be a large number of cachers in the area that just love doing puzzles. Some cachers believe that once a cache is placed it should stay until that spot no longer is viable. Some think that it is OK to change out a cache after all or most of the local cachers have found it. These are just 2 sides of the same coin. Different cachers playing the game their own way. I have been with this Mega-Hider when he has gone out and maintained caches and personally know that he sometimes has done this 2 or 3 times in a week. It should also be noted that he never hides in a pine tree or skirt-lifters and his coordinates are always vary good. Because that is how he likes caches. I have recently went to the area where This thread starter live and have placed some caches because there is so much open area with fields and trails. While there I enjoyed some hides placed by the cacher who started this thread..
  6. I think a reword/rating could be good. One of my concerns might be if it had any connection to number of finds verses how often found. My favorite cache of mine is not often found for a few different reasons, even though it is near a urban area with many caches nearby. It is in a Michigan DNR boat launch area at the end of a peninsula that requires a permit or day fee. The cache itself is easy but it is at the outter edge of a wildlife sanctuary, but not in it. The view is wonderful, which is why I put one there. The few who have found it, loved it. But a few have complained that there is a fee to enter the area. I have almost as many complaints as thank you's. How would something like that rate? For me caching is not always about the cache but the place or object that I got to experience. I don't care for skirt lifters at a mall but one at a historic site is great by me. Guidelines is a conversation that could last the millennium. A rewords system would probably be best handled by area groups and would be less controversial.
  7. The main problem for me is not getting PQs in the am. I have always received my PQ b4 6 am but now there coming in the afternoon. It's 10 now and I haven't received my dailies. I guess I have been spoiled in the past. It looks like now you need to know and plan all caching trips 2 days in advance.
  8. Starting a few days ago my PQ's don't come in until late day. Example: last night I decided where I was going to cache today, turned on the PQs I wanted for today. My new cache notices are coming in but no PQs. This is the 3rd time this week. In the past my PQs always came in by 8am, usually between 3 and 6 am. Do we now have to make sure we are ready 2 days in advance. I'm in Michigan if that suddenly makes a difference. I'm in a vary cache dence area so I have PQs set up for the diffent counties and run the ones I need when I know what area I'll be in. Most of the time I know the night before, NOT 2 days before. Anyone else having issue like this.
  9. I agree with the reference to spam, which I consider one of the great evils in the world. Just like telemarketing. I have found cacher ID cards, like business cards and enjoy those but have not seen a real BUSINESS card in a cache. I will throw the spam coins out. Hey, maybe I just started a new phrase " Spam Coins". Hope this don't encourage more people to make them now that they have a name.
  10. I'm sure a business card would bother me. In fact that would just plain piss-me-off if it had nothing to do with Geocaching. If someone wants to advertise, let them pay for a billboard.
  11. I was checking on some of my cashes today and found some plastic coins in one. They are for a website@EatStayPlay.com. It seems they want people to drop these coins in caches to advertise their website. If you drop enough of them you get a free trackable coin. I'm not yet sure how I feel about someone using my cache as an advertisement. At this point I'm not vary comfortable with it. It also seems that I heard or read that your not to use a cache to promote a business. Has anyone else seen these? Are they against GC policies?
  12. We went to an event near us on New Years Day. over 100 new caches were put out that day for the event. There was one group that had about 14 cachers in it and they did many FTF'c. They all claimed FTFs on those finds even though many times there were only 1 or 2 sets of footprints in the snow. I know this by being the second to find. Two couples got together a while ago go together for a numbers run. Had all the puzzles in a large area ahead of time. As a group they were going to leave no cache behind. The lady's went in 1 car 1 direction and the men went another. all together they found over 100 caches that day. Some people in the area seem to have a problem with how they got their number of finds in one day. For me at least 1 member of each team was at every find. I don't see why there is an issue. Besides how others play the game is up to them. It sound like they had a lot of fun. I recently went caching with a group to a large park and we signed the logsheets as 1 name that we gave ourselves for the day. We did log the cache pages individually. At one point we split up and 2 went one way and 3 went the other. I went along with the group and logged all cache pages as found. I have thought about this many times and have decided it bothers me to much to have 2 smileys I didn't even see and have deleted my logs on those. That is just how I chose to play the game. This dosn't mean I'm right and they are wrong. Everyone plays the game differently. There is a cacher in my area who has decided he wants outta the numbers game and is no longer logging "found" on traditionals unless it is a FTF. He is instead logging "notes" that he found them. I asked him to log my caches as founds, not notes when he finds my caches. How many finds are on a cache plays a part in my decision to keep or archive a cache. I don't won't want to go through notes to see how many finds are on my caches. He said he understands that and won't hunt my caches. And that's OK with me. We agree to respect each other. I look at it this way, I play the GAME my way and others play the GAME their way. As a CO, PLEASE respect my caches and me. Other than that, play the GAME as you see fit. Happy Caching.
  13. I have been wanting to use a macro in GSAK to see who finds how many of my caches. The problem is that I need in get my archived caches into GSAK as well as all logs of all my caches. It seems that once I get everything caught up it will be easy enough to keep it current. The problem is I don't know how to get ALL of the old logs and caches into a complete GPX file. It looks like I can only get 5 of the current logs on available caches. Any Help??????
  14. It is called adaption. Not sure of the technicalities. Check with your local cache group.
  15. When we first signed into GC I didn't know what I was getting into and signed up under my email @. That day when we found our first cache my wife signed the log as BAPman Crew. My initals are BAP I like Batman because he does what he does without super powers. My name is Bruce In the old Batman comic when Batman would hit someone a cloud would show BAP, POW, or WAM. My son calls me Daddyman. My neighbors calls me Bman. It just all comes together.
  16. My best is 24. done yesterday in about 8 hours of caching. But we also did 1 benchmark and 4 waymarks. I like the waymarks that take me to historical markers. This was 4 area cachers getting together to have fun. We could have got a lot more caches but we were picking and choosing the caches we wanted to go after. We even started with a 4 stage multi. So we had a lot of fun. That's the most important part, right. Some of my best caching was my wife and I going for a walk and getting a few caches. I don't think I would enjoy getting 100 caches in a day. I don't care for stress much.
  17. This is a question I've been thinking about as well. We cache as a family, but I did some hides with a friend. The hides are listed in his account but both our names or on the page. My wife and kids would like to find them and log. They do not know just where they are. They know what parking lot one is in, but other than that, they don't know. I haven't told them more until I decide how we should deal with it. They don't want to be cut out of caches and chances to log. So for 4 out of 5 of the crew it it is a smiley, If they find them. I'm thinking I can live with that as long as they don't ask me for any hints. The other side of it is like saying if I go caching without my family, I should only get 1/5 of a smiley. My wife has asked me to take her to caches that I've already found, but she wanted to find on her own. We didn't try to claim 2 finds on it. Most cachers play the game with what they feel is right and proper for them. Just as in living life. If your comfortable with your decision and not offend a CO. Go for it. If it don't feel right to you. Don't do it. For me I'm more concerned with my family's ethics and the cache owners intent, than the other players. I think what we are going to do is let the family find them on their own, just not log them at all. I don't want them on the ignore list because I like to check the logs on those caches.
  18. We are preparing our first TB and wondering if there is a site where we can download sheets. State check off sheets or other things to attach to TB.
  19. I gett my weekly notices from GC. I get Logged notices on my caches. I get Email corospnces from GC. I DO NOT get notices of new caches in the area. This has been going on for about a month. GC says my IP may be kicking it as bulk mail but I get the weekly emails and that is bulk mail. Is this happening to anyone else?
  20. Detroit AREA here .... I've been trung to do some catch up all day and here and GC are sooo Sllooooww.
  21. I just don't get why people put so much energy in to whiiiining. If you don't like some caches don't hunt them. What I find MOST interseting is how HIGH and MIGHTY some people get behind a computer screen. Get a life.
  22. Another good place is a Army - Navy surplus stores, which is a good place to buy ammo cans and camoflage tape. Good camping stores have them.
  23. I agree with the keep at it line. My family has only been caching for 3 months. But with only 200 finds we still have alot to learn, ecspecialy with Micro. Give yourself a chance by staring out with bigger cashes. Look for the cache size listed near coords. Besides when you find the smalls on up You get to look at and trade items. you seem to have a fair number a caches in your area, though I didn't look to see if your a premier member or how many caches in your area are PM only. Keep at it and you will be hooked.
  24. Though I'm still a newbie (200 finds in 3 months) I'm sure I could could cache my area (say 15 miles)for another 6 months just on the active caches available today. But we are getting into hides now and part of that hope is to help keep people already involved and to help generate more interest. So our feeling is if you hide they will seek. If they seek then maybe they will hide. Therefore maybe you get more to seek. And the world goes round and round. It's all good.
