  1. About a year and half ago I paid for a membership to be renewed annually. I was never listed as a premium member. Finally , gave up, re-applied , paid through pay pal , received e-mail confirmation , and, you guessed it , Ive now paid double and am still a basic member. We love geocaching and I dont mind making a contribution to Groundspeak , I want the sport to survive. We pay over $4,000.00 as year for our Dallas Cowboy football tickets, but , at least, we get the tickets.
  2. If you are in Arkansas there is a real pirates chest in Burns park. This is a toy box made to look like the real thing . Its 18-36in. , contains stuffed animals, nemo toys, pirates telescopes ,compasses, toys and more toys ,gold coins , altogether over 300 items. Its' blubeards pirate cache ' , with easy access , all designed for kids. We buy the itmes from a Rhode Island toy company and keep this one well stocked. If you are traveling with kids , going through LRock , this is a 30 minute must stop....the time to get off and back on I40 after finding the cache.
  3. I had a cache attacked by a bear and totally destroyed...it was a heavy duty rubber-maid , no food in the cache. We have black bears in our forest , and , they have now become cachers. Im not sure if the bears are basic or premium members . To see a picture of the cache post bear , click on to jerry bonnie and amy in Arkansas .
  4. There is a real pirates chest as a cache in Arkansas , replete with gold mardi gras coins . It is filled with toys games ,balls, coins, etc.
  5. We purchased 1200 plastic gold mardi gras coins and leave several at each cache as our signature item..folks seem to like them
  6. We have been using the meridian gold , except for heavy canopy and lack of active compass it is good . I have ordered a garmin 60cs and will give you a comparison after using .
  7. Yeah...for a few bucks you can buy some neat items , and the unusual , to stuff several ammo cans . A lot of the things we get a kick out of in caches are generally overlooked . You cant believe some of the things you can pick up at a garage sale......happy hunting and caching.

  9. What is the deal here . Look at the description of the cache . What do we want , Neiman-Marcus caches..at least someone is putting them out there...we get too regulatory and geocaching will tank. We have placed 10 in one large municipal park and have worked hard on each of them. One cache contains as few as fifteen nice items , one , a pirates treasure chest has 500 items in it. Look on the view cache screen and you can get a fair idea of whats coming up..if its a bad location then move on.. Some have found over a hundred caches and have never placed a cache. Are those wanting regulations from DC?
  10. My wife and I rented a pavilion and posted an event cache..the response has been better than anticipated and we wish to avoid serious mistkes in our first get-together. We will become the Central Arkansas Geocachers. Several cachers mentioned forming a group , so , we rented the pavilion, logged the event and its on the event calendar. We will furnish the burgers and chicken , etc.,and already have volunteers to 1. Bring a grill and cook 2. Set up a web page 3. Speaker for introduction to gocaching 4. general volunteers.one to hide several caches, including pocket , and others eager to do anything. Does anyone have an idea for or written step by step agenda. Should there be a dues? How do we try to procure door-prizes ? Will Garmin or Magellan help? Is it too early to discuss the satellite that is set to light up in late 05 . When will the new units come out to handle the new set-up? What are the cardinal mistakes we MUST avoid ...boy do we need qualified advice.
  11. We placed a cache on bashaw mtn in Arkansas..after six weeks no one found it...we thought. I took another couple to the cache, only to find the cache torn apart by large claw marks..there had been no food in the cache , however, he did eat the handle of a nut cracker. I have seen bears in this area, sporadically, over the past 8 years. We need a new logo..bear in ,cache out.
  12. Alex, my 3yo granddaughter accompanied me on a search. When we reached the coordinates she was pooped and sat on a log and some surounding brush. She was comfortable and munched a granola bar, watched the clouds, and would extend her arms and say ..I love you this much...Well I stumbled and grumbled for twenty minutes or so..bumfuzzled ,I sat down beside her. She used the occasion to launh herself into my lap and make with the hugs and kisses....she looked where she had been sitting ...three guesses what she gleefully pointed to..you guessed it ...the cache. She delights in telling this story of how she trickedpoppy. I,ts a maudlin day when your beautiful granddaughter dances ,giggles, and shares the joy of her life with you.
