  1. When I was a teenager (many years ago) a couple of my friends and I decided to hike the John Muir trail in California, from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney. Since we knew that we would run out of food supplies before we could complete the hike (close to two weeks), we contacted the Forest Service and got their permission to bury (yes, I said "bury") a couple of 5-gallon tin cans with provisions at two different mountain pass locations which we placed prior to our trip. These "caches" were dug up as our hike progressed, and kept us eating! A lot of trout were caught and eaten too. I suppose I should tell you that we filled in the hole proper like, and spread pine needles on top. (That was said to keep my tail from being flamed!)HI I doubt if you could get permission these days to bury any food supplies! And no, we didn't have any critters try to dig them up. As I recall, they were about 3-4 feet deep and unmarked on the surface. This story may not exactly pertain to geocaching, but I have been thinking about placing a string of caches along the John Muir Trail. In the "National Forest" - not the "National Park". These would definitely be over-nighters or two day trips, combined with trout fishing. In each cache I'll put fishing flies, line, hooks, etc. along with hiking and backpacking stuff, - All quality items. I'll place them (un-buried) in good ammo cans so they'll last several years. I don't expect to get a lot of "Hits", but you never know.... I would appreciate any comments as a lot of effort and time will be going into this. Thanks, Roger
  2. This website is mentioned in the May issue of Playboy (page 33). Ugh, that "bury" word again!
  3. Yes to that, - Thanks Jeremy for giving me a fun reason to get off by backside and out in the country, spending quality time with my son!
