  1. What would happen if someone found out what his 1000th cache would be and made the cache go walkabout temorarily?? No one would be that cruel. Would they??
  2. If you buy anything from the USA you run the risk of being clobbered for VAT, Import Duty and a service charge from Parcelforce for collecting the tax. That will put the actual cost at well over 100 pounds. Better to spend 80 quid and buy one from someone if the UK. If you look earlier in this thread, you will find someone who is selling a brand new factory sealed Etrex for 80 quid. A. (rules? what rules?)
  3. Your English is pretty good. Why not make your cache pages in German and English. It would certainly help us ignorant Brits when we come across to mainland Europe to geocache. BTW - like it or not, I can never resist taking dollar bills out of caches. A.
  4. That certainly happens to my router quite a lot. For some reason ebay and bbc.co.uk seem to be the worst affected. A quick re-boot does the trick. Alex.
  5. I've done one of your caches and it was just fine. Probably the only thing I would mention was that maybe the box was on the small side. A well stuffed box is all well and good but if you are standing in the pouring rain with a biting wind it can be quite a chore trying to fit everything back into the box after you have signed the log. But that apart, a good start, more of the same in the Great W Yorkshire cache desert will be most welcome. Alex.
  6. Call me daft if you like, but the file I downloaded from your webite contained only a few icons and no data. Maybe you didn't include the data for where the caches are? Or am I missing something?
  7. I thought it was Tetley's, Dave. Mediocre Northern beer. Then again I could be mistaken. Great night though, weren't it??
  8. What about the guy who all but threw the medals at the Aussie team. I wonder if he will kick the dog when he gets home too. Alex.
  9. I could take her to Leeds but the chances of seeing a proper footie game there are a bit remote at the moment.
  10. Perhaps you should email them and ask them how a rrp of $482.13 U.S.D. translates to £489.00 bearing in mind that the pound is at £1.70 at the moment. Even allowing for shipping and other costs this is an enormous rip off. I can see a lot of these things coming in as grey imports. Alex.
  11. Hang on, hang on, I thought I was.......... You are sharper than me today Eckie... I blame the beer again !!
  12. And you really wouldn't want to meet that Lactodorum chap in real life anyway. He's a really dodgy character.

  14. quote:Originally posted by plaid-dragon:Still got that "handheld device" clause in there. Looks like the interpretation of that is that mounted GPSrs are okay, but it will be illegal to use a handheld one...like an Etrex for example. Yes it is very confusing and contradictatory. But it says quite specifically that the device has to be interactive. Which a hand held GPSr is quite clearly not. 15. quote:Originally posted by Firth of Forth:You can see the results if you wish at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=100440. Nice effort. Just one suggestion. The colour picture of the harbour displays at 300 x 200 pixels, but the full size of the file is 1280 x 960. This means it takes a long time to load. You could resize the picture in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro and the resulting file will be almost 20 times smaller. This will make it load much faster especially for those with a dialup connection. The same applies to the other colour pic. Alex. ------------------------------------------------ Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout.....
  16. quote:Originally posted by Wood Smoke:Me :-) Why you thinking of ordering it in bulk for a discount? WoodSmoke Yes. I know that when the 2003 series came out someone got a very good deal by dealing direct with MM. I think he knows someone who works there. It might be better if we could strike some sort of deal rather than all purchasing indivudually. 19. quote:Originally posted by The Wombles:Beware the new law which has been well publicised regarding hand-held mobile phones, starting on 1st Dec 2003. It includes a clause that it will be illegal to use a hand-held electronic device whilst on the move in the car, which could be applied to a GPSr. You can leave it on and it will be legal to use if in a cradle, but picking it up whilst on the move and even if "temporarily stopped" (example given as traffic lights) will be illegal. GPS devices are OK, as the do not transmit. The regulation only covers devices that 'interact'. This is from the Dept of Transport's web site. Q4. Will drivers still be able to use navigation equipment or personal digital assistants (PDAs) or other computer equipment that sends or receives data (which would include GPS transmissions)? Yes - providing that it is not a hand-held device. Use of devices other than mobile phones are only prohibited if the device performs an interactive communication function by sending and receiving data. If the device does not perform this type of function, you can use the device without breaching the regulations. Hope this helps. 21. I cannot disagree with what has been said before. Undoubtably Derbyshire has the finest caches that we have done anywhere in the world. Nothing can compare. You never can predict the weather though. It's interesting to read some of the logs that are posted after ours and contrast things. For example, recently Hornet did Mines a Pint (GC5F80) and commented "The view from the cache is absolutely stunning." When I did it the cloud was so low you couldn't see more than 10 yards. As for Fossil Transfer, it was one of our first and still ranks in the top 5. It has to be the most innacurate Terrain rating of any cache ever. A 2** cache - my ar*e. But we did find it - and a FTF to boot. Had to do the downward bit on the seat of the trousers but made it back to the pub at the top for a smashing pint. Bearing in mind that the "not found" list reads like a Who's Who of UK geocaching, it makes it all the more satisfying. ------------------------------------------------ Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout.....
  22. We found a bottle of champers in one of dodgydaveD's caches. Alcohol in caches?? Whatever would Eckington have to say about that!!!! ------------------------------------------------ Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout.....
  23. Good point Dave. Thanks for that. Alex. ------------------------------------------------ Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout.....
  24. quote:Originally posted by wing-co:Does anyone know of any caches where altitude or height forms a significant part of the hunt? This old one of ours plots to an interesting place on streetmap.co.uk. Needless to say, it was not on the central reservation of the M62 but under a tree some 150ft below the road. ------------------------------------------------ Knights of the Green Shield stamp and shout.....
