  1. The request was for cheques made out to CIN. I DID NOT want any cheques made out to me personally. I even gave a cash donation back and asked for a CIN cheque. Whatever the motives were for organising the event and the bug race, personal glory was not one of them. -
  2. In words of one sylable. Arghh.. There is no need to send two cheques. Because due to hard work and dillegence and the generosity of some who shall be named and some who won't, so far I have managed to have all the bug tags used so far donated free of charge. So the WHOLE amount that has been sent in will be donated to Children in Need without ANY deduction to cover the cost of the bugs. When I first floated the idea, I did not have promises to cover all the bugs, so that is why I worded things as I did. I did not change the rules after the event, I merely acted to maxmise the amount collected. If that doesn't suit everyone, then I'm sorry. And as for the idea that we will be presenting a cheque to CIN with my name on it, that's laughable. All the cheques are from individuals and if I decide to make a big thing of it and use the "big cheque", it will say UK Geocachers on it. Not Alex or Slytherin, I'm surprised that anyone would think anything other than that. This is being put to bed now, like me. The ownership of bugs can be transfered to an independant account if needs be, but I see it as a pretty pointless excercise. If anyone is still upset about being deprived of a bug (which they really haven't been as I outlined above) then please email me OFF-LIST and I will send you a bug tag to keep as your own. So, let's get on with raising money and quit bitchin' as they say in Texas.
  3. OK, I need to lighten up. I've had 4 hours sleep in 36 and am about to face the wrath of Dallas rush hour traffic. I have clipped my earlier post and will start again. Administering a race with 50+ travel bugs in it that all show up on different accounts is too much for me. Hence keeping them all together. If people think that I'm trying to pad my stats doing this then I'm willing to transfer them all to someone else or to a sock puppet account. I don't give a hoot for stats personally, but it's way easier to keep them together if they all show up in the same place. It's a fund raiser after all. Who cares? -
  4. The best way to do it is to stop thinking of numbers and go out and have fun. But that doesn't seem to work for everyone these days.
  5. <jet lag enduced rant edited out> I realise that it was not the thing to do to threaten to take my bat and bug home. Further thoughts later, when I've had time to think about which way to go from here. alex.
  6. If that's the way you feel, I will send you your money back. I don't see how anyone can think of a charitable donation as a waste of money. Takes all sorts I suppose. I will check the bugs I have, if yours is amongst them I will bring it back home with me and sell it to someone else.
  7. No, I have registered all the bugs. Do a travel bug search on "Charity" and you should see them all. I decided that it was easier to have them all in the same place. Apart from anything else, it makes the cheat's race a little harder as no one (except me of course) known the tag number of their bug. I have sorted out four locations for starting points. Sacramento c/o Hornet, Austic c/o moi, Seattle (someone from Austin is going there on exactley the right day, and Arizona. So a fair spread of locations. I'm in Dallas right now (the wonder of free wireless internet) and three lots of bugs are here with me. They were all sealed up by a blindfolded Mrs Slytherin, so I have no idea which 6 bugs I have in my envelope and will only know when they are released in Austin on the 21st. By which time I will be back in the UK. So, all is going well. While I am in the States four new caches will be placed near to the event location, so everyone will have something to do apart from drinking!!
  8. With the cooperation of Groundspeak and Teasel, I have also changed Mark's gecaching.com homepage. It was hard to write. I hope I've done him justice. -
  9. Sensible suggestion. I've been to "TV on Demand" today to check on it. I have left a note on the cache page.
  10. The same sort of individual who starts caching at 4 in the morning.
  11. Recently there have been a couple of caches near to me that are set up so that you have to find a number of different travel bugs in order to find the final co-ordinates to the cache. I just wondered what the general opinion of this is. Personally, even though I'm a "reformed" numbers man, I'm still not keen on visiting caches that I've already done just to get a number off a travel bug. Why repeat a cache when you can go out an find a new one? Added to that, there is no guarentee that the bug is going to be there when you get to the cache. One of these travel bugs even cropped up in one of my own caches yesterday, but before I could go and get the number off it, someone had already taken the bug out of the box. One of the caches has only been active for a couple of days and already three out of six tags are "in hand" and not in caches. I'm all for "mystery" caches that require puzzles to be worked out to find the final coordinates but I'm not really sure what the point is of the travel bug ones. -
  12. Anywhere south of Watford where the softie southerners hang out. Come to think of it, include anything up to 20 miles north of Watford too.
  13. Well done. I reckon that as you have used my Vista for most of your finds, I can take half the credit. That GPSr has almost 1000 finds to it's name now.
  14. It's a spooky field, but the idea of the cache is the approach, but not the field. Never mind, I'm glad to have added to your geocaching enjoyment.

  16. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey for me. To date I have 134 replies from all over the world and some great input for my thesis. This is fantastic, I was hoping for about 30. Everyone has been really good about it and I'm very grateful. Everyone that is except the moderator of the main geocaching forum who deleted the link and locked the thread. Just another reason for us to be grateful that we have the best moderators/reviews in the game here in the UK. Still at least I got to find out what the "C" means in CO Admin.
  17. It isn't set up to show the results and I can change it now. Once the survey is closed I will post a link to the results. So far they make interesting reading. You naughtly lot.
  18. In between geocaching I am doing a Masters in multimedia. For my last project I need some data on software piracy. I have put together a short survey, it will take 2 minutes to complete it. Click here to participate. I will take less than two minutes of your time. When you arrive at the Advanced Survey homepage, type in survey number 15365 in the "Take A Survey" box. If you have time, please look at it. You are not asked your name or email address. Cheers Alex - aka Slytherin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If forum moderators have a problem with this post, please archive it.

  20. You have way too much time on your hands Mr Rutson. Get out and find Austin Power #4. Now that a FTF has been logged I think you are allowed to go find it. Interestingly, there seems to be a sh!t fight going on in Austin now over puzzle caches. This cache hit the streets of Austin this morning. Set by a disgruntled Austin cacher who is peed off with puzzle caches.
  21. I think we could keep her very busy in the next couple of weeks.
  22. When are you going Leoness? I've got a 5 star puzzle cache ready to place. I was going to put it in Bramham Park but looking at the map if I shift it a mile to the east then it hops over the border into N Yorks. That would keep you busy for a couple of week before you go. But then again... who could do something so cruel. Not me. I can't lose though because if it stays in W Yorks then it gives Rutson something to scratch his head on.
  23. After the first few I adpoted the Size 12 technique. Give the side of the bench a good clodding with right boot and see what if anything falls. It seemed to work. And as you say, no one bothers about what anyone else is doing anyway. A.
