  1. Ahem....call me a pedant but nobody's answered the question yet! How long will I have to wait - NOT what year is the next one.......
  2. Whoops. I missed venus transitting the sun last week. How long do I now have to wait before I see a planet transit the sun?
  3. There are already a couple of listing sites (1 in the UK, and 1 in the USA that I know of) specialising in urbex/not-quite-legal/extreme cache hides. Give it a little time and I'm sure you'll get an invite
  4. I'd say no too - unless I've missed the point of the event?
  5. Except that even a brand new OS map will be out of date as soon as it's printed - as has been proven in court (and on these forums LOL) and is no proof of right of way or defence in an English Court. The only map that should be used as proof of a right of way will be the local authority's Definitive Map.
  6. Can I suggest a further reply category...? F - It's just a game. There are other things in life more important than caching, and quite often more fun too. Breath deeply, sit back, and relaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx........
  7. Whoops - wrong answer when first posted, and edits don't bump a thread, so missed this post.... DING
  8. Hard work they may be MrsB - but none of them require specialist equipment or training, do they?
  9. Three DNFs are reason enough to raise a NM log, are they? Whilst I agree that this sounds like a noobie cacher with a bad hide - unless a previous finder can verify that this isn't there, or there's something wrong with the cache (unlikely, as it hasn't been found yet) posting a NM in this case is totally groundless. Edited to add - although the guidelines preclude caches in or near school grounds, thankfully just being near kids isn't yet a reason not to allow the publication of a cache. if it were, at least we'd be able to get rid of countless nanos in town centres.....
  10. OK The tropics of Capricorn and Cancer are so named because when they were first identified, 2000ish years ago, the sun was entering the constellations of Cancer in the Summer, and Capricorn in the winter. What would they be known as if they were discovered today?
  11. It's the most pointless place in London to play knock-down-ginger. Surely is - but why? Are these the famous fake house fronts to hide the railway vent?
  12. There is no such thing as public land in this country. It all belongs to somebody. "Publicly accessible" land is still not public land,
  13. If only.... No - they were called Frampton's - but as you've been closest, and this has gone on a while, you can have the ding
  14. AFAIK that one didn't even make it to court......
  15. Closest so far - but you still haven't named the hat.....
  16. Remember that the geocaches exclude a circle, so that the closest packing would be hexagonal. There will always be wasted space. As a result, the maximum number is more like 5.6 billion instead of 6.2 billion. But you - and the estimated surface area quoted in the OP - assume a uniform flat surface.... There are also no limits on the number of subterranean caches we could place. With this in mind, I would put the total figure significantly higher than 6.2 billion, rather than lower
  17. Whoop whoop. OK - everybody "knows" cowboy hats are called Stetsons, right? What are they actually called? The British design was copied by Mr Stetson, who later lost a court battle over ownership of the design - but by then the damage was done! as a hint, the hats were originally made in - and named after - a village not 3 miles from where I'm currently sat ....
  18. If you're surveying, wouldn't you be using a differential GPS setup? Apart from increasing accuracy, this also negates interference by using a ground station at a known point, doesn't it? Surely there shouldn't be any change in calculated position due to interference from solar flares or anything else using DGPS, unless the interference is very local and only affects one of the stations - not something solar activity is ever likely to do.
  19. Woohoo. OK, which actor played the most characters in the Star Wars series?
