  1. Mary Crosby was the daughter of Bing Crosby. She played Kristin in the long running series Dallas where she shot J R Ewing who was played by Larry Hagman. Larry Hagman was the son of Mary Martin who played Peter Pan on Broadway for years. L.
  2. You could try looking here. Logged on September 2nd 2005 along with many others attending the Shrops 2005 event. If you are going to post might I respectfully suggest that you get your facts right first. Had you looked hard enough, I'm sure you would have found it in the 'Lastplacewelooked' Martin
  3. We were lucky in not losing our tent although it did suffer a couple of tears. As the unpacking comes close to completion we discover that we are missing a somewhat dangerous rabbit and the equipment with which to dispatch him aka. The Holy Hand-Grenade of Antioch. Other than that we seem to have survived
  4. A BIG Congrats from us as well and so glad we were able to be a part of it Lynn, Martin & Maddie of course
  5. After a spectacular weekend of Misfortune, misadventure, and FUN it would be interesting to find out exactly what the tally is for lost tents, gazebos, and other equipment. Plus several other items are in my posession for returning if the owners want them back. Late Sunday morning, it was determined that a TB would be launched in memory of this memorable weekend. And with thanks to Belplasca, who went rummaging through the skip to find just the perfect item, a piece of someones tent will be sent on its way. Will the owner of said item please step forward when you find it. Lynn
  6. As with many, Lynn and I have not met Billy but have seen many of his posts in the forums etc. Both of us also wish him a speedy recovery from what was obviously a horrendous injury. We can only hope that things work out better than prognosed. Martin & Lynn
  7. The point hidden in you're well received bit of sarcasm is of course perfectly valid. However, it's not always easy these days to get kids interested in anything other than video games etc. At the event we held last year, because we were aware of the virtual and also the timings of the ISS, we distibuted paper copies of both at the event and it garmered a huge amount of interest. The evening that followed the sighting saw many still staring at the heavens and having some great discussions about astronomy and even, in one case, quantum physics. The cache had proved to be a good lead in to something, and I thought it a shame to remove it. We could ask the Astronauts if it's getting a bit smelly in there yet. Martin
  8. As it is now quite late in the UK, and we have an event starting tomorrow (an event at which we had hoped to introduce a few more folks to the ISS which wil be passing over us during the duration), I must call it a night. It would appear that my views on this subject are, sadly, very much in the minority. I had hoped that perhaps more folks would have agreed that this rigid application of the rules in a rather exceptional case was unecessary. Maybe I'm just getting old. I grew up in a society where rules were in place just as they are now in all walks of life. However, in that society, we also understood that no rules were perfect and had to be modified 'as you go'. An unusual case that didn't quite match the rules would be treated as an exception. We seem to be throwing away our powers of discretion. Best Regards to All, Martin
  9. If you manage to capture it in a small backyard telescope, it's surprising how much you can see. A bit tricky to keep it on track unless you have a good stable tripod, but I argue, seeable indeed.
  10. Good luck in this Iowa Tom. I just noticed that the old International Space Station virtual was hyjacked and archived. This really annoyed me intensely but it's really good to see that someone else is already considering a much more versatile approach. Martin, Team Maddie UK
  11. Iowa Tom has been proposing one that would/should fit. Good on him! Martin
  12. Once again, I would hope that the ISS at least has the longevity of the average tupperware box. Are you honestly saying that the ISS isn't traveling? It has to be in one spot for a reasonable amount of time. The ISS is traveling at something like 17,000 miles per hour. So is the cache a few hundred yards from my house. So is every cache I have ever found or placed.
  13. Once again, I would hope that the ISS at least has the longevity of the average tupperware box.
  14. ROFLMAO! I had a feeling that that one was coming! I still think that the definitions are a little 'fuzzy'. Perhaps one of the reasons for this is that they were designed to cover objects on the planet which makes the ISS just a little different. It does have a fixed location just not relative to the Earth's surface. Hence I think some latitude should have been given in this case. Martin
  15. With that attitude and language, I am sure you will get someone to reconsider..... It moves (relative to a given position on earth) and doesn't require a GPS. I support its removal. Plus I am sure there were other reasons that sparked the decision recently. I thought the language was quite mild considering how strongly I feel about this. So you support the removal of a harmless vitual that can have all sorts of positive fall-out in terms of children etc. And this just for the sake of tryng to adhere to some rather 'fuzzy' rules?
  16. It has just been drawn to my attention that the above cache has been archived by Mr. Irish himself after first turning into a locationless which it most definitely is not. I think the good folks at NASA would be absolutely horrified at the suggestion that the ISS is without location. Indeed, it has an extremely precise location which relative to us on the firmament of the planet requires a time reference to determine. Removing this ever popular cache is pedantic to say the least. We, on several occasions have been able to introduce youngsters to the joys of gazing at the heavens at night by first setting out to spot the ISS and log it at event meets. And I thought this recreational pursuit was all about having fun. Not about the rigid (and evidently, in some cases, erroneous) application of some corporate directed enterprise. Martin, Team Maddie UK
  17. For those of you wanting to get up-to-date PQ's before leaving for shrops ALL of our new caches will be available after 7 pm tonight. After that we will get them on a daily basis and have them available for anyone at the campsite. Lynn
  18. Hi all. I have been asked to clarify a few things about this event. COSTUMES are optional but a lot will be wearing them to the hog roast on Sat night and throughout the event. Please do what you wish in this area. It is not compulsory. KING & QUEEN This is NOT for winning the quest game. Everyone attending the event will be given ballots to vote for the King & Queen of the event (and for the entire year) There is no list of people running for the positions. You will just decide yourself who you would like to see perform the knighting ceremony. Martin and I are not in the running as we will be working in the background to make sure that this is a fun night and just won't have the time. Unless someone has a cloning machine.............. lol KNIGHTS & DAMES A lot of you have set goals/targets to meet before shrops. This started the criteria for gaining the knighthoods.. Most of you have already met your targets and/or surpassed it...WELL DONE THIS IS NOT BASED ON COTM STATS!!!! The main criteria for this was actual registration for the event. If I didn't know you were coming then I had nothing to work with. Since we are not leaving until tomorrow, there is still time to register your intent. Lynn
  19. Our new caches (7) + Jim Stablers new one (1) will be enabled tomorrow night so that folks can do their PQ's before they leave. Also Team180 put out 7 new ones which are already in place and the Mayos are rumoured to be putting out possibly another 6. This makes a possible total of 21 new caches ready for the event! Current numbers attending as as follows... Looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of days, Martin, Lynn and Maddie
  20. With over 100 TB's and coins out there travelling, only 2 of the TB's missing bother us greatly. Evangeline who made it all the way to France on her way to North America only to be returned to Staffordshire and never heard of again and the Holy Grail, missing for well over a year in a cachers hand (who also has not cached in a year. On the upside This morning the Holy Grail was resurrected with its copy tag and will appear to a chosen few at Shrops.
