  3. I would definitely be interested in the series as well.. This weekend is not good for me though. I'll be watching this thread to see what everyone else wants to do..
  4. Congratulations Mopar ! Good luck on your quest for your next 500...
  5. Welcome ! You'll never look at a park, forest, lake, or woods the same way again

  11. I also like the idea also of a separate section for virtuals.. with the same style and format as the traditional gc.com and benchmark pages. I think virtuals have their place as an introduction to caching or as a way that physically challenged people can enjoy "GPS touring". I sometimes take family with me on day trips and they enjoy looking up some virtual caches and the new routes and neighborhoods that are encountered. They also like keeping track of what they have found and in potentially sharing some of the interesting sites that they know about. To me personally, nothing can compare to traditional caching and a good challenging hunt, but I think virtuals can have a good audience that would enjoy their own section.
  12. Yes Saturday was a great day for caching... I took a drive up to Orange and Ulster County with family. We caught 6 easy caches and a few virtuals. I had to do it that way to keep the family involved. The nice by-product of it is that I think I passed the caching bug to a few family members.. (or at least they better understand my obsession... )
  13. Congratulations Floopy ! You truly are an inspiration to us new cachers !
  14. It sounds like it was an awesome day for everyone. It looks like you all really covered some great areas ! Maybe I'll be able to meet you all at the next event...
  15. This is so true.. What is concerning are those situations where a pilot will have false sense of confidence with whizz-bang instruments like a 296, assuming that it will make borderline IFR conditions a piece of cake.
  16. I have been using a Garmin 76s for about 1 month. It is well made, has plenty of memory (24Mb), many features, and is easy to use.
  17. Hey Brian... Thanks for the great news on the cache circuit. This looks like it will make for an excellent weekend.... I look forward to it. I must say.... the quality of the caches that you and others here in North Jersey have placed are fantastic. Just reading about them has really whet my appetite to get on the trail BTW. Congrats on the new job !
  18. Way to go Mattina Family ! Welcome to a great sport that I'm sure will bring you and your family much fun and adventure.... You'll never look at a park or the woods the same way again
  19. The Garmin 2610 automotive unit will allow direct input of lat/lon.... Then again, with the new firmware, the 2610 will even pick up Starbucks coffee for you on the way to a cache (However it is most definitely not in the $100-$200 price range)
  20. Thanks for the warm welcome. I can't tell you how appreciative I am to all the great geocachers out there who have provided some excellent help and guidance. I am completely hooked on this sport and everything that goes with it. It has made me more aware of the historical aspects of a location as well as the natural beauty of our environment that I may never have seen... I'm looking forward to meeting some of you out at a cache or at an event. Thanks again.
  21. Yes NightPilot.. That what I was originally thinking... In looking over the various options, I realize that I do want more than the basic eTrex (quad helix antenna, memory for Topo maps, decent screen and battery life) but I can't really justify paying up for a 60c after choking down the 2610 Maybe I'll look more closely at the Legend or Vista... then again......
  22. That makes a lot of sense. I absolutely love the 2610 and Garmin overall so the 60C would be great to have when hiking. Thanks for the good suggestion Vlad ! Good luck with your 60cs !
