  1. There has been a wonderful influx of cachers in the Middle Georgia area as of late! I have created a local forum for the Middle Georgia Area. So come on by and sign up so we can create an awesome caching community in Middle Georgia. Click here to Join us at the Middle Georgia Cachers Forum!
  2. Hmm... That's an interesting idea. It would have to be listed as a puzzle as it is never at the same coordinates. with my experiences with seated lifts of any kind, I have dropped a variety of different things over time. So that would be a large concern. I would e-mail your reviewer, and see what they have to say about it.
  3. For business use you can't beat a blackberry, that is for sure. If you don't want/need a smart phone, I would for sure go with a full fledged gps unit. As far as the explorist GC goes, from what I have read here on the forums, people tend to really like them. I haven't ever used one so I can't personally attest to how it works. As far as Cache Sense goes however, I really like it, and rely on it completely for my paperless needs. It is easy to use and very functional. I have even used it exclusively to find a few caches, but I still prefer my 60CSX when comes down to serious caching expeditions. I hope you find a mix that will work well for you!
  4. As a Blackberry Storm Owner ( the first generation) I implore you to rethink your decision. I am now on my 3rd Storm in 1 1/2 years. The software is pretty good IMHO but the hardware is crap! The "sure press" touch screen isn't built to hold up to regular outdoor use. I have a otterbox case on mine to protect it, but high humidity seem's to do one in about every 6 months or so. As far as caching software, Cache Sense, formerly known as "Cacheberry" is wonderful. There a lot of new phone's that are much better choice than a Storm one or two at Verizon now. One more though before I go.... Coming up to the Holliday season new phones will be released. There is a chance that Verizon's LTE 4G network will be coming online and they will be offering 4G phones around the turn of the new year. I know there is always something "new" around the corner, but for all that is good in this world, rethink the Storm.
  5. I agree with all of the above statements, I have two cache's that are PMO caches just for the sake of being able to look at the audit logs. If someone has looked at the cache page many times with out logging a find, I will offer up a hint if they want one.
  6. Briansnat said it best, you have to think like a hider. Of all the caches I have found, very, very few have been within 5 feet of where my 60CsX zeroed out. Once I get within 20ish feet I put away the Gps and start searching. Heck I have found caches that were over 200 feet off of where my gps said it "should" be. Best of luck, and just have fun with it, and don't rely on where your gps ( iphone/ipad) say 0 feet is.
  7. 10 miles from my home nets me 32 caches, 1 is mine, and only 9 are unfound. Looks like I need to do a 10 mile radius clean up run...
  8. You can set up a new notification for published caches by checking the publish type when setting up a new notification. To have it sent to you as a text, you need to know the sms email routing name for your cell carrier. example 123-456-7890@vtext.com. The numbers would be your phone number. Other carriers can be googled im sure. I hope that helps!
  9. I have one sorta like this, but with a much larger red herring and a few extra steps. For sure a 2.0-2.5 though. Keep up the puzzling fun!
  10. 1. In bushes 2. parking lot's of schools ( I wonder how some of them even got approved?) 3. Dumpsters, or other assorted trash piles 4. Private residences for sure ( i have found several of them now, really don't like em 5. Shady old abandoned houses/businesses. 6. Guar rails/signs on busy roads 7. Playgrounds or just close enough to a playground to make mom's give you the evil eye ( and understandably so) 7. And like PissedFish said, anywhere that makes me feel uncomfortable. I'm sure there are other examples that Iv'e left out that I don't like, but those are at the top of my list. Edit for the lack of my fingers dexterity at this moment in time.
  11. I would venture to say that at least 89% of that is in my POI's in my trusty ole Garmin 60. Everything else is on Waymarking.com as knowschad has suggested. Edit for spelling
  12. Welcome to the game/obsession of geocaching! Before you worry about what you are going to put in the containers, you may want to double check your cache container selection first. I don't mean that in a snarky or mean way at all by the way. I have found many containers that you have listed, and in my opinion, they don't tend to hold up well over time. All of the containers you have listed tend to get wet on the inside in pretty short order. Look into matchstick containers, that can be bought at your local super store for a buck. Lock n Lock containers for around 3-5 bucks. If you can get your hands on a good ol'e ammo can for a good price even better! As far as what you can put in them.... well that's up to you, I tend to put outdoor type things in my caches. Mini carabiniere's, small compasas, pen style bug sprays, and sting treatments. That's just what I would like to find, so that's what I put in caches. You may want to do the same. Put something in there that you would like to find/trade for. As long as it follows the guidelines, have fun with it!
  13. Ahh, I missed that part. Guess I should have read it a bit more carefully. I agree, the 60 is not what you should get if you want a paperless/GPS option. I use by blackberry for the paperless aspect. I have many caching friends that have Oregon's and love them. If my trust 60 ever dies...( I hope it never does) then a garmin 62s would be on my wish list.
  14. +1 for the Garmin 60CsX. Not really paperless friendly, but a super tough and accurate unit.
  15. Well now that you mention it drfred, It does kinda look like a lonely fluffy little cloud. I still like my drone theory though!
  16. It kinda looks like, a drone. Like the ones that are being used in the Middle East. Is there a military instillation near by? Could be a training mission, as the landscape seems sorta similar to Afganistan, except with more vegetation.
  17. I have used Sawyer's for a number of years. It works great. If you use another skin application safe products on exposed skin, you will be nearly bug proof.
  18. I have found that most of the time, most people could give a hoot about what anyone else is doing at any given time. There of course, will be the occasional curious soul around. I have found however, that that type of person is become more scarce. The best way to look "inconspicuous" is to simply be confident in what you are doing. When you or anyone else for that matter acts timid , scarred, or otherwise uncomfortable that raises the suspicion of others. So cache with confidence, and have fun!
  19. While I do agree that asking outright for help solving a puzzle, is indeed bad form. The OP never mentioned needing help solving a puzzle. What if the OP was trying to create a puzzle, and had seen the code somewhere and couldn't remember what it was called? I'm more than likely wrong, but at least it wasn't an outright puzzle solving request.
  20. without knowing any more than what the OP wrote, I think between Michael and jholly, they have you covered. I have however seen a few different variations on the theme I just can't remember where. If I do i'll let you know.
  21. My cache bag usually contains, but is not limited to the following items. CamelbaK with 2 litters of water My trusty 60CsX Blackberry camo duck tape organizer filled with various and assorted containers, rope, fishing line and baggies gloves several batteries a small collection of writing utensils film canisters that contain extra log sheets ( bison/film can/match safe, and nano sized) bug spray Poison Ivy/oak/sumac treatment Hydrocortisone cream Ibuprofen emergency fire starter ( bic lighter) flash light, and head lamp Knife, and leather man tool tweezers edit to add to my list extendable mirror, I usually have and extendable magnet as well, not sure where it is though Several guide to Geocaching pamphlets ( they have served me well) and last a mesh bag to carry everything inside my pack. My Trecking pole, and other emergency supplies are in my geomobile. I'm not big on trading, but I do have a few things out in the geomobile as well if needed.
  22. I think they are fun...sometimes.... other times not so much. I guess it really all depends on where it is and if it's clever or not. I have one nano hidden GC1ZT8R
