  1. Anyone have any South African themed unactivated coins for sale? Please drop me a PM. Thanks
  2. We're working hard Bats, give us a few and we'll get back to you
  3. Who needs Chuck Norris when we have our very own Steve Moffmeyer
  4. So I'm curious.... If the non-geocacher wants to go geocaching more than the geocacher, does that make the geocacher a non-geocacher?????? (sounds like a Zen riddle)
  5. Congrats to all those who have reached milestones. I've stood still over the past few weeks and watched you all whizz by Happy caching...
  6. Well I wont be going away, but I'll certainly be out caching. And if the boss doesnt like it....
  7. I think we would probably have to look at celebrating the 1000th placed and accepted cache. Otherwise its gonna get too confusing. GR, any chance of asking GC.com to give that cache, whenever its finalised as to which one it is, a WPT ID of something like GCSA1K? We wont have to worry about what to do when it goes past GCSA9K, well at least not our generation - I dont think there are enough hiding spots anyway
  8. Ok so now we have the maths out of the way As far as the milestone of placing the 1000th cache goes, I think that we would have to exclude all the events and look strictly at caches placed and the 1000th cache certainly deserves to be acknowledged. Please keep us posted when you here from GC.com
  9. Ok I need help understanding this please. I did a search on the seek caches in country and came up with 1002 incl inactive caches. Then a pocket query shows 52 inactive caches. My maths says that makes 950 active caches. What am I missing here GR???
  10. To answer Bats question , the event will be arranged by Garmins Advertising Agency, who are from a journalism background. They have already indicated that they would like to invite publicity in the form of newspapers and magazines. If the headline reads something along the lines of " Garmin hosts National Geocaching Event" who are we to complain They have also indicated the possibility of getting a few Garmin clients such as Cape Union Mart on board as far as prizes go. Two goals have to be achieved : Prizes for the event and secondly to advertise Geocaching. If Garmin can make a buck on the side as far as advertising etc is concerned, fantastic, because then we may have a fixed event sponsored annually. We are going to work in conjunction with Garmin and indicate to them what we are looking for. A suggestion I had which Garmin havent fully considered yet, was to have two or three teams from the north (Gauteng) and the same from the south (WC) who would travel to places Garmin might be interested in obtaining a bit advertising in to do some sponsored geocaching. This is, at this stage, purely a proposal. Lets see what they say and I will keep you all posted as it unfolds. Happy Caching
  11. Garmin are concerned that they may step on some ego's re the event and their organisation/involvement thereof. Can we have some more input please guys????
  12. Would you mind sharing the offline conclusion by any chance??
  13. LOL, Disco, I wouldnt count your chickens yet mate
  14. I honestly enjoyed the locationless caches, although I only did four (I think), they were great fun. The research into the subject and going to the site and taking your picture with your GPSr. I also quite liked the virtual caches. (pity they're only in Cape Town) What about reporting the matter to QFC (judge, jury and executioner???) and letting it be his decision as to whether the log is legitimate. A the same time we dont want to create a monster out of QFC Alternatively create a hall of shame lmao Check out this link : http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/8ea056...1ee000342a6.jpg bawahahahahahaha
  15. No need to admit guilt Larks, no wrong doing in my opinion. We will never be able to please all the people all the time. I think the views expressed are great and I'll be honest I'm not a micro fan myself, but thats my personal view. I prefer traditional and mystery caches so thats what I stick to most of the time. Happy caching....
  16. Hello All Just a quick note re the event. I spoke to Garmin Ad reps today (Charlene to be precise) who tells me that Garmin is very interested in sponsoring the event. What I need to know from you, the geocacher, is how do you feel about the event being run by Garmin??? They are going to discuss it and come back to me with a few ideas but so far it looks very promising. I told them that Gariep Dam was probably the place it would happen and they were happy with that. Charlene even mentioned that they may consider holding the event anually depending on the result and would look to source further sponsors on our behalf should Garmin give them the go-ahead. I personally think that letting a company like Garmin take ownership of the event is the way to go. We let them take care of the logistics and organising and we can get back to what we do best, caching!! (I'm actually thinking of the brand new 60 CSx I'm gonna win hehehe) Any thoughts on this would be welcomed. Happy caching.... Ps. I have a few Sawyer Snake Bite first aid kits that I'll put up as prizes myself.

  18. Great to hear Wolkynou, the more differences the better. What times did you take the readings?? I have been using two different GPSr's and the differences are incredible. There have been days when the weather has been really miserable and only 3 sats picked up on the Vista. Fortunately the SIrf chip did a little better and got 4. The more I test, the more I understand!!! And its honestly amazing that we actually find any caches
  19. Thanks Ysbeer, please go to the link above your entry and you will find the form in either word or word perfect on the top right of the page.
  20. The unknowns Vespax, are usually the mystery caches.
  21. This would be interesting to know Wolkynou.... I must admit, I generally do a bit of research prior to cache placement. The last four for example I knew which area I wanted to place them and worked out the co-ords and then when I went to place them, had to change because of one or another circumstance. My first cache took me almost 6 weeks planning. Sky Earth was one that I wanted to place for people to get out into the outdoors but at the same time was a quick cache for those travelling far or from abroad. I think if there is some history to a place, then its nice to know about it, such as the caches placed at Historical sites and the like. Ive got five caches waiting to be placed and just havent found suitable spots for them yet. Then again I have one in the car with me in case I find a suitable spot when on the road, one never knows
  22. Seeing as I couldnt go caching today I was browsing the posts and the analytical mind kicked in...heres what I came up with... Micro - 155 - 16% Small - 285 - 29% Regular - 457 - 47% Large - 17 - 2% Other - 16 - 2% Unknown - 29 - 3% Virtual - 13 - 1% For those with an interest Happy caching Ps. I almost forgot - total caches in SA now stands at 972
