  1. Hi all I have been using an Iphone 4S up til now and now have upgraded (?) to an iPhone 6. However, I just ran a query and tried to download it to my phone - but I am not given the option of opening the query (zip file) in the app. How do I get it on to my phone on the Groundspeak Geocaching app?
  2. Hi Howie Sometimes it helps to check out nearby events - or even host one yourself! We are moving back to Ontario (not specifically Hamilton) but expect we are going to have to do a little searching for caching groupies.
  3. Is there a place on my page that will give me a list of challenges that are available? There were a couple of challenges that I thought I did last year - but can't seem to find where they would be posted as challenges Thank you
  4. I am using geosphere (app) on my iPod When I go to try and upload my logs -I get an error - that the access token has expired. - I have a screenshot Any suggestions?
  5. You can get the 62S bundle for $269.99. I didn't look too deeply...but it does seem strange that they'd sell the 62s alone for $349 but the bundle package for $80 less... My email from Costco said it was $229 for the 62 sc - free shipping. I am in BC - not sure if it makes a difference where you are. The sale is apparently on until May 25 On a completely different topic - ie price aside - I purchased one and it has been delivered. I operate with a Mac computer - does anyone know if there is a way to get the log from the 62sc to the website? Up until now I have used a Garmin 550 and my ipod. Find the caches with the GPS - use Geosphere with the ipod and upload all logs through the ipod. I was kind of hoping I could do it all in one with the new...improved.......
  6. Costco has this on sale right now. I am working with a Nuvi 550 - which has pretty much outlived its use as a caching GPS. Any feedback on this model. I had my eye on the Dakota and Oregons last year - but don't think this was in the mix Thank you
  7. Isn't 11/12/13 already over in Palm Springs? Todays 11/28/13. IT goes both ways(Someone in my city has 2 events, one for each way). If it's going Day, Month Year, it could be on December 11th. Which come to think of it, if there is, I think it would have to be published by now. Thank you All - going to set it up now
  8. We aren't going to be in our own province for much of December and I just found out there is a 11.12.13 celebration happening in various areas. How do I find out - or have myself notified if the area we are going to is going to have one of these events. They aren't right now... but maybe it will be posted later? I am looking for Palm Springs CA
  9. This has been going on for a few months and I am not sure if I have forgotten to do something when creating them - but if I am - I have no idea what it is. I often create pocket queries from a route. The last few times I have been doing it - my route stops about 50km from my home. My process of creating the route is - create a route - save - then create a pocket query from the route. I usually ask for 1-3 km in radius from the roadway. What it seems to do is use up the full 500 in the first 50km - then give up. ooooh - I wonder if it is because up until now there were not 500 caches in the areas I was searching?
  10. I have been loving my limited capabilities on GSAK - but have now gone to a Macbook. GSAK has advised that they have no intention of making anything Mac compatible. Since I use a Garmin Nuvi550 - it is not capable of the 'beaming' that the Oregon is. Does anyone know if there is a program that I can create pocket queries and download them to my Garmin? Thank you to all
  11. We, too, are on Vancouver Island - south of Nanaimo - north of Duncan - although our cache finding has been spread much further than that. Didn't get a chance to do much this summer though - so ramping it up for the fall a caching we will go Nice to meet you all Lord and Ladybearbc
  12. Hopefully Popoki Nui and I will hook up with you at an event! Until then, Happy Caching! I'd love to get to an event, so far the only ones have either been too late at night for the mini-cacher (only 4) or in the middle of a week day when I'm working! If you know of any that are on a weekend day, please shoot me an e-mail! There is going to be an event in Duncan November 14th - check out the calendar Plans for another event in March in Ladysmith
  13. . Unless you are the cache owner, please do NOT email the local reviewer when you cannot find a recently published cache on the website. It creates extra work. I have a form letter I send out when I get these inquiries following a cache retraction. The letter explains how to set up an instant notification for "retracted" logs. Sorry - didn't get this before I had sent the publisher an email- I was just asking why I couldn't see it In any event - they didn't answer - so thank you for the info
  14. Oh! Didn't know I could - thank you - will look into it right now. Have tried to find out how I can get 'retraction' notifications - but don't see any way to do that on my profile page. Any hints? Thank you
  15. Oh! Didn't know I could - thank you - will look into it right now.
  16. This is slightly different than the others - but still on the topic of new cache notifications. I got a notification yesterday that there was a new cache in my area - since then I have been trying to see it on the website - but I keep getting a message that it is not published yet - however - this is from the email mtn-man published CCS9: Ocean view trackables hotel (Traditional Cache) at 1/23/2010 Can someone explain why I cannot see it on the website - and if I can't - when can I? and why did I get notified it is published? Thank you Ladybearbc
  17. I have done some research and it sounds like this is something I need. Apparently it is useable in the car as well as caching. I am presently working with a Garmin Etrex but find it is really limited with the number of caches that can be put in it and it is definitely not 'paperless friendly'. We have been working with a netbook, Palm and Ipod touch - you don't want to know why all three. So - in order for me not to have to depend on the OTHER electronics - I am looking for a Garmin Nuvi 550. However, many of the stores I have checked with - do not even carry that model. Thought I would check and see if anyone is upgrading and wants to get rid of their used one.
  18. Oh Gees- knew this would happen. I have posted the wrong bug to the wrong cache - and can't for the life of me remember which bug should have been where the wrong one was posted. How do I put the one I know is right into the right cache I am so very sorry about this
  19. The coin you found is an activated an traveling coin that is owned by someone else. Traveling coins work the same way as Travel Bugs. If you pick it up from a cache, leave the truck attached to it, log the coin using the tracking number printed on the coin, and move it to another cache (helping its mission if you can). By a quick look through this forum, I am sure you have noticed that there are many different kinds of geocoins, and that people collect and trade coins. The coins that are collected and traded are purchased new from one of the coin vendors(see pinned topic at the top of the forum for a list of vendors online stores), or from ebay, and are not taken from caches. Thank you both for helping. I had figured I was to forward it on - and was going to leave the bulldozer. I didn't know it had its own website - but have made note of the number - and have been looking for a container that is large enough and has enough room for the truck. So - - it will be on its way within the next month. Brought it to BC so it could see some other slugs!
  20. Hi! This has several questions in it - I have tried reading through all the do's and don't's - however I am more confused now than I was an hour ago. So - I picked up (what I believe is) a trackable item in the States and wanted it to travel on. I THOUGHT it was a travel bug - but have just found out it is a geocoin - named Travel Slug (nice image lol). Attached to it is a dinky sized bulldozer. So here are the questions 1. When I drop it and track it - do I leave the bulldozer attached? 2. If it is trackable - I assume it is supposed to keep moving? 3. If that is the case - why is it that this forum has an extensive number of members who have a variety of coins - are they gathered in another fashion - other than caching (ie trading?) Thank you for understanding - if this type of thing has been asked before - but I have not found anything in this vein. Ladybearbc
  21. I haven't heard of a travel slug in regards to trackables. Unfortunately, the entry period has closed. You can follow the race atGreat TB Race. If you would still like a way to participate, check out the tab titled "Checkpoint Caches". This is an option for people who would like to help out the race. And all you have to do is have a cache available that can act like a checkpoint in the race. We have a small amount available at the moment, but the more the merrier. If the race goes well enough, we might look at organizing a second one next year. TripCyclone the travel slug is a geocoin, but that's another forum ILYK Thank you - will look there
  22. What is the difference between a travel bug and a travel slug? I picked up a 'slug' in CA -can it be entered in the race?
  23. Thank you for all your help and suggestions. We had downloaded Cachemate to my husband's Palm and created all sorts of new problems (including locking it up) - so I am going to have to do a pile of convincing to get him to redownload the info. I know becoming a premium member provides me with more benefits - but for some reason I had been able to download the pdfs a couple of weeks ago. Now I cannot - this is what I was hoping to do and send them to the Palm. I am just having issues with more costs - figured I would like to get some use out of the GPS first - then move on to more extensive uses. I have downloaded easy GPS - but that is going to take some time to figure out. Still working on it. Thank you
  24. Yes - I am a newbie and finding some of this frustrating - and now for some reason when I download the hints etc - my computer will not access them I know I downloaded some a few weeks ago - and have actually printed them off - but now when I download the waypoints - I cannot open them on my desktop. I get an error saying Adobe reader cannot access it because the file has been damaged. Anyone got any suggestions as to what step I am missing? Thank you
