  1. I tried for days to find it, and was only able to after I removed the batteries from my GPS.
  2. I use a platypus, which works very well.
  3. I don't remember if I've posted on this forum or not... but I'm in the extreme east bay area, a little community known as Livermore. I'm less than a mile as the crow flies from the Centennial Cache (which I know by description, but haven't officially logged yet). Anyway... Hello.
  4. It's actually doing quite well, thank you. I had the same problem with mine finding no satellites, and I had to do a hardware reset. IIRC, this is performed by holding down the right arrow (the fellow had me hold it with a pen), and power on the unit. You lose all the waypoints in memory, but it should be able to find satellites again.
  5. Greetings, I just recently purchased a power cord/computer interface for my Magellan 310 (yes, I KNOW it's old!), only to find out that the contacts on the back of the unit were crufted with some foreign substance, which rendered the cord useless. I was able to get some of the cruft off using a pink pearl eraser and a key, but there's not enough off to still make a good contact with the cord. Does anyone know of a solvent/solution that I can use to make sure I clean all the cruft? Thanks in advance.
  6. I had the same problem with my 310 when I bought it off of eBay. Magellan tech support was very helpful in getting mine fixed. From what I understand, this problem happens when the GPS hasn't been used for a long time. If I recall correctly, what the tech guy had me do was turn off the unit, and then use a pen to hold down the right arrow on the pad, and then turn the unit back on. This resets the memory and it worked perfectly. If this doesn't work, by all means give the tech support a call. They didn't ask where I got the unit, and were very willing to help.
  7. I have another question that I'm sure has been asked elsewhere. Is it possible within Cachemate to search for caches by difficulty/terrain? (For those days that I'm feeling masochistic and want to tackle 5/5's) Or is that in cmconvert?
  8. I use Watcher, along with Cachemate 3.4 on my Visor. I have Cetus installed, but I have no data cable to go between my Magellan 310 and the Visor. I will probably be looking into CacheNav when I get a cable.
  9. I'm going to look into making some signature cards for myself, but I need to get permission to use the logo I wish to use, since part of the image is copyrighted. If not, then I guess I'll have to use my forum avatar.
  10. Target has a few Garmins for sale now. Also, with Disc golfing I usually have to go to Sportmart or Big 5, who carry a small selection of discs. I usually buy online from a store in Southern California.
  11. This may be wrong, but I notice under the menu there's an 'export logs' option under the 'Record' heading. Since I haven't actually found any caches yet while using it, I don't know if that's what you're looking for or not...
  12. Wow... looking at the different formats you can get, it's really versatile. I saw Cetus, Geocaching Database, and .loc just to name a few....
  13. I could never bring myself to go hiking when my kids were younger, now they're old enough to walk by themselves (They're 3 and 5). However, my son still insists sometimes on being carried on my shoulders. At 3 years, even though he's on the small side, that's too big for a back carrier, isn't it?
  14. Would it be possible to add a feature to search for nearest caches from another waypoint? Currently, I look for nearest caches from home, work and school, and I have trouble memorizing the coordinates for each. So, if I could put those into cachemates as 'caches', I could search from them easier.
  15. Question removed... found the answer.
  16. I'm having a slight problem with cmconvert (for Linux). It appears to not handle the ordered lists correclty from GPX files. Instead of getting a numbered list on each line, I get a continuous string of the items with asterisks in between. Actually, is this a problem with cmconvert, or a 'feature' of GPX?
  17. When I was looking to see if there was a RS232 solution for my Prism, I did come across a site that had a solution (for ~$250) that used the springboard port. Needless to say, I didn't get it. So, it is possible.
  18. Magellan GPS310, off of eBay for $30.
  19. I remember them having that feature as well. I also just checked Yahoo maps and Mapblast (now some MS product), and they do not have coordinates either.
  20. Well, I know part of this is due to my unfamiliarity with Geocaching in general (only 2 caches out of 3 found), and for myself it would be helpful to have screenshots with explanations of all fields, buttons, etc; similar to when you get a new watch or whatever. However, the main problem I'm having at the moment is searching for caches close to me. I don't have an interface cable yet between my Visor and my GPS310, so I'm trying to enter my coordinates by hand in order to find the caches. I have entered in the coords as 'DD mm.mm', 'DD mm.mmm' and 'DD.mm.mmm' and I keep getting the same message that the coordinates are invalid. I was unable to find anywhere that it told me the correct way to enter the coordinates. The other question I have is can you enter more than one log for a given cache? I see that there's a 'past logs' page, so that leads me to believe that you can start a new log the next time you go looking. However, I see no way to move the log from the 'current log' to the 'past log' I believe that's all my questions for right now... but I'm sure I'll have more as I delve into the program. (Just got my registration code, and the 109 records that I had in there this morning before I registered imported perfectly! Yay! )
  21. Is there someplace else for documentation, besides the 'user contribution' and the 'main' cachemate sites? I am still not sure what a few things do, and how to do a few things. It may be just my unfamiliarity with Palm-OS products, or is there another 'how do I...?' thread for cachemate?
  22. As opposed to some of us (raises hand) who don't know when we should shut up!
  23. I just thought of something. (Hey, I'm slow! ) The Megellan GPS upload will probably not work for me to upload to my GPS 310 because a) The 310 waypoints are only four characters and There's a known issue (at least according to PC Mobile that you can't transfer from a Prism to a GPS. Ah, well....
  24. I just figured that out today when I was re-reading the Visor manual online. My version of pilot-link has it, but I felt very accomplished this weekend just to get the computer to sync with the Visor. (I've been using a Psion for a few years now, and just happened to pick up the Visor at a swap recently)
