  1. I just got a pocket query back and tried to open it in ExpertGPS and it just keeps crashing my program. Is there a chance something is wrong with the files that geocaching.com is sending back. Maybe our two problems are related?
  2. I've recently posted a event called A Night on the Mountain GCXT25. It's a terrain level 4.5 event cache. If you like hiking and camping and can make it to Vegas the weekend of September 9th and 10th we'd love to have you join us.
  3. In the Red Rock Canyon area I would recommend you don't miss the following three, but really you can't go wrong with anything in that area. They're all very scenic. FRED FLINTSTONE WORKED HERE GCA1FB The Grotto GCG6KD First Creek Falls Cache GCHY48 One of my favorite caches out around the Valley of Fire area has now been archived. It was a virtual, but I think you'd still enjoy visiting it.... All's Well at St Thomas GCC545
  4. <<<<What Renegade Knight said>>>>> Some of the items that I like to find are... books, cds, dvds hiking related items, first aid items, compass, thermometer small radios cheap work gloves money Some items I don't like finding.... expired coupons golf balls McToys
  5. You might try attending a local event in your area. That's the way I first started meeting the cachers in my area. If none are coming up you could always host an event cache. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. We recently had one here in Vegas that was pretty successful and all we did was set a time to meet at a local Dennys. Also I've met some cachers by emailing people who have logged a find of caches that I liked and asked them if they'd like to go caching together sometime. If your an active cacher it won't be long before you start hearing from other cachers.
  6. Yes there was a good turn out. It was my first event cache and I was really happy with the way it went...of course I learned some dos and dont's for my next event so it should be even better.
  7. I'll be sure to let em know you said hello Rusty. Sorry you can't make it, but I'm sure we'll meet up one of these days. Until then there's always NGA
  8. Just wanted to spread the word a bit....I'm having my first event cache the evening of October 3. I'm holding it just outside of Las Vegas in an old ghost town called Goodsprings. It'll be at a old haunted bar called the Pioneer Saloon. What better place to hold an event cache in the month of October than a haunted saloon If you'd like more details check out the cache page at Renegades, Rebels & Rogues GCK3H0 Hope to see some of you there.
  9. I recently did the Las Vegas' Amazing Cache and do recommend you let people know where your going and take a buddy with you. You should be able to complete it within a few hours. As for another cache within the city involving a rope??? I've done nearly every cache in the city and quite a few around it and am very active with the local geocaching comunity....I don't recall hearing about another cache involving rope. Maybe you heard of a couple that some people might have suggested that you take a rope to?
  10. There are lots of vituals along the strip but not many regular caches. A few regular that do come to mind are... Arthurs Revenge GCJATW Wanna buy a Bridge? GCJWGH Hotel George GCE49A I also have the only webcam cache on the Las Vegas strip so be sure to check it out to....The 4 Corners Cache GCJ067 For other caches around Vegas...check out my profile I list my top ten favorites around the area. Have fun on your visit to Vegas!
  11. no problem. by the way since your a local (Vegas) you might want to check out nevadageocaching.com lots of friendly locals on that website.
  12. It's been a while since I've done this one but if I remember correctly there is a a electrical box near by and the cache container is about chest high and within arms reach of the electrical box.
  13. I hope it gets fixed quick. I'm planning a last minute trip out of town and need some last minute cache coordinates...
  14. I'll be driving to Carson City from Las Vegas in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone could recommend some great caches in that area? Or caches between Las Vegas & Carson City. Bear in mind I'll be driving a standard 2WD truck so any caches that require 4wd will be out of the question.
  15. uuuu...ummmm....Is this like the dungeon & dragons version of geocaching?
  16. I ran across this while out caching today. I didn't know you had to go to school to learn to do this
  17. I haven't done this one myself but a lot of the local cachers think it's great "Spider Hole" GCHCGG There's lots of easy virtuals on the strip As for cool places that a lot of the tourist dont see. Check out the Red Rock Canyon Recreation Area. This guys website has a lot of information about this area.... http://members.cox.net/jlboone2/Red_Rocks_...ck_Overview.htm Some of the waterfalls might still be running at the time of your visit. Spider Hole is located in this area. While out there check out a place called Bonnie Springs Old Nevada. It's a mock old west town. Fun to visit for a afternoon. The bar/restaurant is worth a visit to.
  18. It seems there are many different ways to hold ones gps. Personally I prefer to hold mine horizontally between my knees. By squeezing your upper legs together against the sides of your gps you will find that with practice it will stay pretty secure between your knees. Actually just slightly above the knees. An added benefit of this particular method is that it brings you and your gps closer together in a more intimate manner. And of course everyone knows that the more intimate you are with your gps the more likely it is to give you accurate readings. This method does tend to shorten ones stride but the benefit is that it leaves both hands free for other activities such as shading your eyes from the sun while looking for satellites, trying to figure out how a compass works and looking at all the squiggly linges on a topo map.
  19. I'm just curious as to what the most remote cache is? Does anyone know? By remote I mean located farthest away from any other cache.
  20. I'd have to skip any math caches until every other cache in my area was completed. Fortunatly for me that will be a very long time.
  21. I just logged my first benchmarks yesterday and have a quick question. When there is already a photo of the benchmark am I suppose to post another to verify that I was actually there? I went ahead and posted the photos when I logged my benchmarks but it did seem pretty redundant to post practically the same photo. If you check my profile and look at the benchmarks I found you'll see what I'm talking about. Seeing as with a benchmark there's no logbook to sign maybe a photo of me with the benchmark or my GPSer near the benchmark would have been a better idea. Anyway I'll keep an eye on your replys and log my next ones more accordingly.
