  1. Yeah, I definitely don't want to over think it, just enjoy the hobby. I'm a bit OCD with my files though and like to keep them backed up on the PC and organized, once we move to MI I'll have to set up a PQ for the new area we are in. I'm sure it'll help us learn our way around the area while we look for caches.
  2. Thanks for all of the great info, sounds like you can either use GSAK or pocket queries. Sounds like pocket queries is very easy to keep your GPS updated. Once you find geocaches do they no longer get included in the query? Also, do you still keep your finds updated on the geocaching.com website so that you have a running total of how many you've found? Also, can you run a pocket query if you were going to head out of town, say to a certain area of northern Michigan and wanted to hit that area just for the weekend? This is a really cool hobby, especially once we have kids, nice cheap way to get outside, plus I get my gadget fix at the same time.
  3. My wife and I are new to geocaching. We only have 15 finds or so and have downloaded around 30 .gpx files and transferred them to a microSD card for our Garmin 450T. We love it so far, very nice cheap (after the cost of the GPS) activity that is very family friendly. Before I get too far into it, I wanted to get some advice on how to organize caches in the future before we download too many, I see some of you with thousands of finds and just wondering how you keep them configured. Right now, I have them seperated on the computer by the date we downloaded them (folder name) and just leave the .gpx file name the same so that we have the name of the cache so we can find it easily on the site later. I transferred all of the gpx files onto the microSD card into one folder \garmin\gpx, which works great, no issues finding the files on the GPS. Any tips are greatly appreciated, sorry for the long post. Any other tips on geocaching are also appreciated. We have a Jeep too, so we hope to use it to find some remote caches (in MI, where we will be moving in a month or so).
  4. Just ordered my Oregon 450T, any updates on your experience with the new device? Thanks!
  5. Seems like the 450T is available at plenty of places but the 450 is on backorder everywhere.
  6. I kind of like having the basic topo maps loaded with the 450T since I will be heading out camping after I pick the unit up. How does it work when you add other maps? Do you just open them within the user interface somewhere? Are you penalized in anyway other than the extra money as far as capabilites go with downloading free topo maps from that popular free site? I have the 60CSx and have always just used the disc to upload the Garmin topo maps to my GPS, not sure how it works when you have multiple maps. Lastly, can you update the topo map the 450T comes with? Thanks again for the help.
  7. I have a Garmin Oregon 550t, and soon after I bought it I added maps from City Navigator North America NT. I recently also loaded maps from Garmin's TOPO U.S. 24K Northeast on it. The combination works like a charm. --Larry Awesome, thanks for the replies
  8. If you have the Garmin 450T with topo maps, can you still download free topo maps and also upgrade the garmin topo if you so choose down the road? Not sure if that would work. Thanks.
  9. I was thinking about selling mine, looking to get $200 for it, almost brand new, used 3 times on walking trails. No issues or defects what so ever just haven't had time to geocache in the last year or so. PM me if interested.
  10. I'm looking to sell my 60CSx, like new, no defects or issues, used 3 times while walking on trails. No time to geocache in the last year or so. Looking to get $250 for it, PM me if interested. Thanks!

  12. Looking forward to future feedback on this unit, I'm looking to pick one up in the near future, I've heard the 450 has an improved screen over older Oregons, it does look better. How is the accuracy and ease of use?
  13. I really appreciate all of the responses, it looks like a really nice unit, if it keeps reception like the 60CSx and has those awesome maps on my PC plus paperless, it seems like it is a really great unit. It is a tough call on the 8GB SE model, if I read correctly the regular comes with only 500mb? Not sure how many mb the 60csx has. But for $160 dollars difference I could buy quite a bit of memory, even at today's prices, I'm thinking a couple 16mb cards should do it. If the transfer speeds are about the same as internal I'm sold. How is the screen resolution compared to the Colorado or Oregon if anyone has experience with both? Thanks again for the helpful responses, seems like Delnorme has some faithful customers, which is a good sign. I've heard their customer service is first rate also. I may just end up selling the Garmin 705 and using this unit for just about everything, including hunting and fishing too.
  14. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the PN-40 since my wife is into Geocaching now she can use my 60Csx. I've heard a lot of good things about it. at jr.com I could get it for $340, is it worth it to pay a lot more for the SE edition or just pick up a big memory card? How are the transfer rates if I get a fast card? Also, I'm a little worried about reception hearing horror stories about the initial Colorado and Oregon firmware, any news from the beta testers on reception in heavy cover and valleys and things. Today we were out with the Garmin and it was bouncing all over like crazy in the woods, not fun, its generally very good. Any info you guys could provide is greatly appreciated as I've always owned a garmin, have 4 currently, 2 cars(Nuvi), 60CSx and 705 on the mountain bike, but might sell the 705 and use the PN-40 for that too. What sold me is seeing the maps on some PC screen shots, the 3D overlays look gorgeous. Anyways, thanks again for helping a newb to geocaching.
