  1. Or leave off all the giveaways, provide a more subtle hint (if any at all), and jack up the difficulty rating appropriately. It's entirely up to you and what experience you want to provide, but not all caches have to be a gimme. But even at that, I'd mention the difficulty in obtaining quality coords so folks have an idea what to expect.
  2. You can go to http://www.geocachingadmin.com/ and on the left next to where it says "Travel Bug", enter the tracking number and clck the "TRACK" button. That will take you to the trackables' page where you can then log the trackable out of the archived cache. You can also go to the My linkTrackables Home Page for all kinds of trackable info. You can scroll down on that page and enter the tracking number next to where it says "Enter the Tracking Code of the Item:" and then click the "TRACK" button there.
  3. Maybe, maybe not. You would be surprised at what people can freak out over! Shoot. I've had people call the cops on me for looking at rocks under a tree in a public park. Pulling some mysterious container from under a seat on a bus? Yeah, I can see that drawing some unwanted attention.
  4. Nope. Never gonna get approved. Moving caches have not been allowed for some time and the coords are supposed to be specific to the cache location, not to something like a bus stop where you then wait for the right bus to show up. And what about permission from the authorities to put a cache on a bus or train? Good luck with that.
  5. It would be handy to have that feature, but in the meantime, you can make your search a little easier by clicking on the column header "Last Found." This will bring caches with the most recent activity to the top of the list. If yours are anything like mine, this will mostly have the active caches at or near the top of the list.
  6. Gotta go with K13. If you are changing it that much, it should be a whole new listing. And maybe a reviewer can step in and asnwer this, but if you are introducing questions that have to be answered before going out, then would the cache not have to be listed as a mystery/unknown type instead of a multi? I'm not sure which takes precedence, but I would thing the mystery aspect wins out here.
  7. Not helpful? It is all stuff you need to know. Let me see if I can boil it down for you so you don't have to be bothered with reading that stuff. 1. You cannot list temproary caches on gc.com. 2. Events cannot be set up for the purpose of gathering people together to go find caches. 3. Events cannot be set up in conjunction with some other event such as you describe. Any 1 of these will keep an event from being listed. In your case all 3 apply.
  8. When you list a cache there is a field where you can put in whatever name you like as the owner of the cache. However, the cache will be listed as being owned by whatever account was used to list the cache. For instance, I have one that says it was hidden by MrsSQ, but I listed it so it shows on my hide stats. So you can have multiple owners of a cache as far as what shows on the listing is concerned, but there is no way to have multiple owners of a cache for receiving logs and appearing as a hide in everyone's stats. All that being said, you could create a new cache name that represents the group and list it from there, but the log emails would all still only go to 1 email - the one set as the default for that new account. In either case, the person receiving emails would have to do some kind of filtering on that email account to forward a copy to everyone who wants to receive the logs or those people could bookmark or watchlist the cache to get them.
  9. It's not THAT tough...as long as it meets the current guidelines and there are still no proximity issues. Just email your reviewer and explain the situation. He/she will review it as if it were a new cache. The worst that can happen is that your are told "no". If you are, find out what is wrong, make corrections, and make a new one. Of course, as others have suggested, you can just try listing a new one from the start. Your call.
  10. I just don't think an attribute is enough. How is that really any better than requiring the CO to put the word "challenge" in the name of the cache? Yeah yeah...I know the PQ angle and all. But there are plenty of us that rarely - if ever - use PQs and would rather have an easy way of distinguishing challenges from unknowns. And there are plenty of hiders that do not use attributes at all or intentionally misuse them. I've started phasing out the use of attributes in my PQs because they simply cannot be trusted.
  11. I just created one, changed the endpoints, and modified the route. Of course, it all had to be done before saving. Once saved, I could not do anything with it.
  12. Interesting. I was just able to create one, change the endpoints, and modify the route...as long as it is all done before it is saved.
  13. Also, keep in mund that Geocaching using some kind of code scrubber (someone here will remmeber the name of it) that enforces their coding standards. This can yield some "interesting" results. That's why I try to keep things VERY simple and I use tables to do special formatting and layouts. Seems to work with far fewer headaches.
  14. I have a few that are premium only because they are field puzzles that are a bit fragile, so I want more experienced cachers fiddling with them. Also, I don't like the idea of all the work to make, and maintain them for a cell phone user who can't even register on the site to play, let alone pay for a membership! I wish it were possible to hide cache listings from the NVM accounts without making them PMO; I'd be on that in a heartbeat! But I don't really want to make most of my caches PMO. Most of the ones that I would consider making PMO are "protected" from the beginners anyway because they are puzzles/multis. Agreed. Though a pm for some time and we know of ways around it, I don't do pmo hides because of the audit. We don't think it'd be right to make ours pmo because of these new phone folks. - We've archived a bunch and are not putting any new out unless they have a higher D/T rating, or are puzzles or multis. Accomplishes the same w/o having to resort to pmo. CJ's been getting quite a few of these not validated intro app people (the default log's a giveaway) on her simpler hides and if any more problems arise, we'll just take them out of play too. Groundspeak could fix this. This isn't the first thread on the subject... Why would Groundspeak fix anything that requires geocachers pay to use their site? A fix would not require all users to pay. The main issue would be to requires all users to have a validated email address so cache owners can contact them when needed. There are other things they can do to such as requiring watching an intro video before the intro app shows them caches and other things, but the email validation requirement for ALL users would be a heckuva start.
  15. If I were going to do as you say, moving them and changing the container, I would create new listings for them. These are not resurrections of the original caches as if the area was just inaccessible for a time. These are, apparently, all new caches.
  16. Oh lordy...ANOTHER set of emails! Why can't GC just employ an in-app and on-site notification instead of sending a stinkin' email for every little thing? That's something else they need to do. Give users their own preferred method of contact options. But as things stand now, emails are how GC does this kinda thing.
  17. Yup. Really hate the new version and switched back to "classic" almost immediately.
  18. Why on earth would you want to watch another cacher? Talk about creepy stalker behaviour. B. Well, I have a few caching friends who I keep tabs on regularly and they do the same with me. We like following each others' adventures when we aren't caching together which is never as often as we would like. It's kind of a virtual way of caching together and we talk about each others' experiences we read about when we finally do get together. Now, doing it with an openly available watchlist? No. What I would like to see is to be able to make this a feature of the "Friends" function. If you want to "Follow" someone you have to first "Friend" them. Then to follow that friend, you check a box or something and then they get a notification and have to allow it. If they do that, then you get an email for every log they submit. If they don't you get an email telling you they have chosen not to be "followed". There could also be a profile option to allow or disallow follow requests from friends in the first place. Another layer of permission.
  19. Statistics and reality are not the same thing. Your 2 a day every day for 8 years brings a couple things to mind right off... 1. That is not that big of a deal. Some places are so cache rich that you would actually have to hold yourself back to only do 2 a day. I have to take my daughter to an appointment every week. While she is there for an hour, I go find a quick 8-10 caches. 2. Back to the stats thing. I think it is safe to say that very few cachers actually cache at some magic set pace. Back to my weekly caching for example, I may have a really bang-up hour and get 14 park and grabs. But then I don't get any more the rest of that week. Sure, I average out to 2 a day, but that is far from the reality. Getting 2 caches in a day is not a big deal at all, depending on the 2 caches. If they are two urban park and grab hides, that could take all of 10 minutes or less. However, if they involve scuba, kayak, mountain hiking, or something else more intense, you could be sorely tested just to get those 2 in a day. And don't be so impressed by the numbers. 5,000 in 8 years is not such a big deal. I have about 5400 after 10 years and my caching buddy, who started after me, is nearing 50,000. Others have more in less time. But even that means nothing except to them. I know people who have logged hundreds, if not thousands, of caches in such a way I would consider improper. But everyone plays their own way so each person's find number really only means something to them and should in no way be used as a measure of their skill or success unless you know and agree with how they play. I guess what I am saying is don't be unduly impressed or amazed by others' numbers. Just go out and have fun.
  20. Nope. We don't seem to have much of a problem with that and we, as a group, aren't really all that uptight about it. But that is not to say that if we see something fishy we won't delete a log here and there.
  21. Thanks for mentioning that. Doing that used to work for me but for quite some time now when I click on that arrow I go to my gc.com profile page. Since I did not know if it was just me or a global thing, I thought it best not to mention it. So if that works for you, then I guess I may go back to dinking with it and see if I can figure out what it behaves badly.
  22. Well, first, these are not your "forums". This whole site is a forum. What you are looking for are "topics" you started. As t your specific question, no, there's no simple way I know of. You could always go to your geocahcing public profile and click on the link "See Forum Posts for this User". That will show you every topic that you have posted in. That will at least narrow it down for you.
  23. Yes. Go to that topic and post another reply asking the moderators to close the topic. It stays there, but no one can post to it any longer.
  24. Nope. Been using the same 60csx for years. Only problems I have now are that the words on the buttons have worn off and if I drop it, as I often do, it turns off.
