  1. I'm in only if someone agrees to send me a CASE of Smarties from Canada.
  2. Wow! Thanks so much for running this cointest, and I'll be getting my information to you post haste! It's neat to hear about all the new designs being put forth and seeing what people come up with- man I wish I owned a bank.
  3. Or you might be dealing with THE WONGS! DON'T MESS WITH THE WONGS! Man that whole situation is funny.
  4. As most of my response has already been said in this thread, I'll make it brief. Looks commercial, sounds commercial, and the Cache Owner seems to like Jerry Seinfeld and a hot blonde babe a little too much.
  5. Sure, stealing sucks. But there's not much we as geocachers can do outside of camping out near our caches with tasers and a bullhorn to zap and yell at anyone who might not be a geocacher getting too close. Extreme example, but nonetheless: You might be dealing with a geocacher that thought your container was super awesome and thought they would be sneaky and take off with it. If that's the case, that supremely blows, and I'd be on the lookout for any suspicious users and whatnot. On the other hand, you might be dealing with a kid who found a container lodged in a tree/stump/your choice of camo and thought it was neat, so they took it home. I know I did that when I was a kid, because I honestly didn't know any better. As said before, the only thing you can do is press on and continue placing caches.
  6. I've only ever done solo caching, because for the longest time I couldn't get anyone interested in going out with me and doing it. Now I begun to trick my husband into going on walks and my GPS just "happens" to fall into my purse or my pocket. He's slowly catching on, but prefers a long hard hike to get to a remote, 4 or 5 star cache rather than something in a city park. So I handle those, and instead we plan trips around horribly remote caches. We're still planning a trip out to GCBD8E... Someday that cache will be found!
  7. I sell my blood plasma for caching and pathtagging money. The student job market here is pathetic.
  8. Don't give up on hiding just because one of your caches was muggled. Giving up after the first time is lame! I worry about the caches I've placed, but I'm confident that they'll last long enough that enough people will enjoy them in the time they're given. That's all one can hope for. And placing it in an area that isn't going to be scrutinized by neighbors, concerned parents, and nosy children.
  9. I've only ever found one Lamp-skirt cache. And once was enough for me. To each their own, and I leave them to chase those kinds of caches that I do not enjoy. Thankfully, Minnesota is not saturated with Lamp-skirt caches. There's some sort of unspoken rule about them here...
  10. I've had two FTFs, and the first one I got I actually stumbled upon the Cache Owner, who was out updating the coordinates, which were off for some reason. First person I've actually met, too! Was rather interesting. There are quite a few people in my area that will go out in the dark of night in order to snag that FTF title. Even at all hours of the morning, like 1 or 2 AM. I think that's a little bit excessive, if you ask me. The other FTF I got just a couple days ago, and hadn't been touched in 2 days, yet was in the middle of a whole slew of other new caches by the same person. I thought something might be amiss, but I tried anyway, and found it. I felt vindicated.
  11. That coin sounds really wicked!
  12. I just recently restarted Geocaching. My join date is deceptive; I did geocache back in 2004, but only a little bit. And that was before Geocoins existed! I recently got back into the game a month ago, and discovered these lovely things called Geocoins. Man are they sweet!! I had only known of Travel Bugs from my time geocaching, so seeing these was pretty neat. I went out to a cache specifically to find a geocoin, and got one. Now I'm hooked! They're so cool because they're personal and there's so many different ones out there. I've been back to caching for about a month and a half now, and I bought a couple coins online, so my collection is just starting out. It's amazing to see the evolution this whole game of Geocaching has done over the years. I currently have 4 activated geocoins (which I got in the last 2 weeks, lol) and a couple more for my collection. Looking around this forum, its astonishing to see how many coins people have, and how much they cost... i can't imagine the cost of making your own geocoin. I've gotten into Pathtagging, but I think Geocoining may have to wait a while. Anyway, that's my story!
  13. Interesting that the news station is reading the forums... I would definitely had sanded off/removed the warning label. Any sort of warning label mentioning caustic materials or anything saying "caution" or "warning" is always grounds for someone to freak out over it. Painting or attaching the Geocaching sticker label would have been a good thing to do as well. I like to think outside the realm of geocaching when I'm looking to hide a cache, or just out looking for one. If it looks like I'm going to attract unwanted attention, I think it over. If its not worth the attention, I'll pick a different spot to hide it. It's too bad that this incident became so large, but a little bit more preparation on the CO's part might have saved a lot of trouble.
  14. As a sidenote, Upgrading to a Premium Membership allows the use of Pocket Queries, which makes searching for specific kinds of caches and getting them all in one nice, tidy file to download is really helpful.
  15. Every time I see the ad on the side of this website I get more and more excited. I want the starchart coin that is coming out soon Man that looks sweet. It's the only coin I'm jonesing over!
  16. The first bug is still MIA. As for ones that are recovered, no I don't know the exact durations but I believe some have crossed the five year mark. How ironic. Boy, I'd love to see one pop up after a seven year absence.
  17. I've been a member here since 2004, and in May of 04 I stopped at a cache and picked up a TB. I kept it in my car so I wouldn't forget it if I went out caching. Shortly thereafter, I got into a car accident and my car was junked. I dropped out of caching because of college, and not having a GPSr anymore. That was nearly 4 years ago. I just recently got back into caching, and remembered this travel bug, and felt really guilty, especially since I believed it to be long gone into a pile of scrap metal. I've lately slowly been sorting through bins and bins of old stuff I have; from when I still lived at my parents before I left for college. I just happened across an old plastic bag in one of the bins; lo and behold, it was the bag of stuff I cleaned out of my car before they towed it away to the junk yard. I got really excited, because I thought -MAYBE- the TB was in there! And yay! It was! I picked this TB up on May 16, 2004. I'm now happy to say that I'll be logging it into a cache in the near future! It's neat to compare the old style of Bugs to the newer, much more resilient Bugs. Is there some sort of record for the longest MIA?
  18. Can you print your browser window at all? What shows up when you do a Print Preview?
  19. Perhaps bump it up to a 3 star rating? If it is indeed camoed as well as the logs are alluding to, I'd say it would merit 3 stars.
  20. MAN- TODAY WAS LIKE CHRISTMAS! Three packages at the door! One from Groundspeak: My license plate frame (already installed) A bag full of bugs! 2 Geocaching Logo pins! One from Oakcoins: USA coin 3 FTF Coins 1 FTF ammo can pin Oakcoins St. Patricks Day collectible coin (a nice surprise!) One from Ebay: 2 Twin Ports Geocachers Aerial Lift Bridge Geocoins! One in silver, one in gold! I'm giddy as a schoolgirl. Now I can release some Travel bugs and coins on my trip next week!!
  21. I think it's silly to assume that the area you are primarily setting caches in is "your territory", and that you have the right to scold outsiders who want to place a cache there. Heck, if I ever got hassled by an overly-dominant area Cache hider, I'd shoot their rudeness right back at them, because you have every right to defend your hide. But that's just me.
  22. When I see the icon listed, I assume that it would be reasonable to find the cache without some serious digging of snow or chipping of ice. I don't usually carry a shovel with when I go out winter Geocaching, lol.
  23. Russian Olives are a very invasive species. It's a good thing they're getting rid of them, as they crowd out native species, interfere with the nitrogen cycle and, as you said, use far too much water. Just because it is flat does not mean it isn't beautiful any more. That is the natural habitat for that area, and I advocate that our natural areas return to their former states... If you are ambitious, perhaps suggest to the WMA manager that they do a native planting of prairie grasses and shrubbery. This helps to beautify the land as well as creating more cover for potential caches. In the end, you may just have to give up on hiding WMA caches for a while.
  24. I would inquire as to if the DQ seemed to be missing a large amount of chocolate sauce lately, then reveal the photographic evidence to them. Otherwise, perhaps shifting the coordinates a bit would help. Out of the view of DQ break-takers.
