  1. Having recently having had a cache knocked back by a reviewer I can appreciate Hammermans frustration. Mine wasn't so different from a number that I had found in the past so I was a little annoyed at the time. However I conceded that perhaps the reviewer had a point about the placement so I removed the cache. It got me thinking about just how much the reviewers do to aid in the game, it's not just a quick tick and flick they look at location and appropriateness of cache and if it passes muster out it goes if it doesn't they just ask a question and re review. Personally I really appreciate the efforts of these volunteers. Sad to see the archiving of what sound to be some pretty interesting caches but all CO's have the right to remove if they have concerns or get disillusioned a similar case happened down around Torquay in Vic on Mr Emus series. As to Hammermans queries to his LGA "Bravo" I say it can only promote the sport if it ends up getting some press. I hardly think that such a harmless globally accepted past time would be threatened by a small local council in Sydney. If they did say no to hides in that area what would they ban next.......Easter egg hunts in local parks... I don't think so Best of luck Hammerman and thanks to all you volunteer reviewers too
  2. Crikey H&T that latest post on the Bifrost page sounds like you've had a gutful of cachers and want nothing more to do with us. Is it because of the alleged destruction of the environment around GZ even though your hint and repeated notes say you don't need to take anything apart? Or simply because no one can find your well hidden cache? I hope I am misreading the post and you're not chucking it as it would appear that amongst your other great hides you seem to have created one of the best ever caches! Still looking forward to giving this one a go but won't be in Sidders till the end of Feb........ Who knows a FTF may still be on offer
  3. Well that certainly answers my email query about GZ possibly being the start of the bridge to Asgard and the final destination being hidden in the description. Don't ofetn get to Sydney anymore but this may well be worth the trip. If only to post another DNF. Oh and Peter, I can't imagine a gentleman like yourself spitting at all
  4. I've never even considered making any of mine PMO but we have a fairly small Geocommunity up our way. I don't pay the fee to be part of an exclusive club I pay it because for 30 bucks a year lots of people put a great deal of effort in to publish my finds, hides and laments, and it is just a small way to show my appreciation. If I made them PMO there would be less work to do and I would get less gratification in seeing posts. Seems like your damned if you do or........
  5. I think we all put too much faith in these hand held devices. Even with the best equipment it is almost impossible to calculate an exact position with only one device. The survey GPS I use will resolve to about +/- 2m consistently When used in tandem with a known base station I can expect an accuracy of around 10mm and can refine that a fraction by multiple occupations in a closed network I'm not really sure how smart phones operate but I believe their GPS is actually derived from a triangulation of the phone tower locations rather than satellites. If this is the case and you are only acessing two towers then it would be very hard indeed to calculate accurate coordinates for any mark and as such these devices shouldn't really be utilized to source cache coordinates from How close do you want to get anyway? It would take away the thrill of the hunt if every device supplied pin point accuracy and you could just walk up and grab it Mind you if it helped me get a FTF at Bifrost in NSW I probably wouldn't complain
