  1. I enjoy the final stages of the hunt, when it takes awhile and we poke and poke, scratch out heads and poke some more. And then, someone finally says, "I see it". I also really like to get out with the family. Nice to have some conversation and no TV’s to compete with. The other part I really enjoy is when people find the ones I have hidden. I love to read the logs. When I can't be out finding a cache, I like to see that others are.
  2. ok, don't laugh at me...How can I use marquest and get the caches to show on it?
  3. Since we all have opinions, here's mine: Under the DNF, there are no degrees. DNF= Did NOT FIND. There are no "DNF Because...." If you found the cache and SIGNED the log: Smiley Face. If you look and don't find: DNF. If you look and find where you think it was: DNF. If you look and it's missing: It's still a DNF. Again, there is not a DNF = found, because it was muggled. No matter what the reason, all a DNF means is you didn't find it. It doesn't ask for the reason. And there's my 2cents worth........
  4. So what you're saying is, these aren't caches in the US San Juans, but Canada? Interesting. So if I want to cache in this area, how do I? I'm not much or a computer geek, so the only maps I use are the one's here. And yes, Hemlock is right, I save the pic on my computer and upload it to my profile page, then paste the URL in the image area.
  5. Reluctant? oh yes! But I do log the DNF when I look and don't find it. It's only fair. To me, it's all part of the game.
  6. So sad....I always try and look at the bright side and positive side of people. What these 'kids' are up to is just plain sick. To get their fun from destroying caches and peeing in them is something that someone who is rather well, just plain stupid, would do. It's not creative, it's not clever, I can honestly say my animals exhibit a higher IQ than those participating in the destruction of these caches have shown. True punks, no self-esteem and they have to pee in a cache to make themselves feel big. Yeah...ok...I'm impressed now.
  7. Shruna, when I click on your top link, then zoom out twice and then pan West three clicks, the land goes away and this is what I see: TotemLake, I don't have any special mapping that I know of. I am using the maps that are on the Geocache site. Would this make a difference?
  8. I did a search and started with the zip code of Friday Harbor. At first it looked good, then I panned to see the islands....Weird! I have a boat, but no scuba gear! Our own Bermuda Triangle????
  9. I know...I know....But there are some things that just look right, like the American flag blowing in a breeze to the right. When the breeze blows the other way and the flag faces left...well it just looks odd, at least in a picture. Kind of like cars with motors in the trunks!
  10. Jamie, I was just catching up on your travels. CONGRATS! You went through my old stomping grounds; I grew up about 20 miles from Westmoreland. We used to camp at Salton Sea all the time. That's before the pollution was bad and you could safely swim and fish there. I miss the sea...I don't miss the heat. I don't remember ever hitting 130; I think 124 was the highest while I was growing up. My dad was one of the founders of the DeAnza Search and Rescue team in the valley. That heat is nothing to mess with. Glad you made it through safely. And, GOOD LUCK on the next leg of your adventure!
  11. Hi Mcweb...I know this may be totally wrong, but something bothered me about this pic and it hit tonight what. Does it look (to anyone else) like the dog is facing the back of the car? I know the headlights are yellow and taillights red, but the car is shorter in front than in back, which to my eye looks like the dog is facing the wrong way. Other than that I love your creation and since it's not my avatar, maybe I shouldn't even offer the suggestion, but I am. And it is only a suggestion.
  12. You mean there's more than one way to carry it?
  13. Very nice, it made it fun to watch. Good job!!!
  14. My dad almost died from the bite of a diamondback. (Southern California, Yuma/Mexico border.) It was a long time ago, when he was a little boy. They lived out in the country and it took him a while to get to the doctor. To this day, a rattler is the one creature he will kill on sight. Glad I never really pissed my dad off when I was growing up. Almost 70 years later and he still holds a grudge!
  15. OK so here is something weird, odd and in my sick mind...funny. I found some cool mini rolls of TP packed in waterproof packaging for backpackers. Charmin , no less. They are Too cute. I bought several rolls to place in the wilderness caches we are going to start doing here soon! (Did I mention the little rolls are really cute?)
  16. I believe you need to pay the $30/year (or monthly fee) and become a Premium Member. Then you have the option to change the name to anything you desire. I just haven't thought of anything clever yet to change mine to.
  17. Another thought, if you know any of the other cachers who had already found it, you could try posting a note or emailing them and just ask if they are in the area, could they take a run by and see if it is still where they had found it. I had a DNF, which I wasn't even suggesting was missing, but another cacher who had found previously found it did pop over to check on it and then posted it was there to keep looking. I agree, the person who hid it should as part of the maintenance, check on it. But there could be more to the story and maybe they can't check on it for some reason. If you could verify one way of the other if it is still there, you will know if you should keep trying or not.
  18. I have been trying to put FTF's in mine. At first I made a FTF Key chain, but then the same person found two of mine in a row and I thought after that I should try and put different items in, in case it is the same first finder. I have also used inactivated travel bugs and custom made items, specific for the cache.
  19. Sturgeongeneral, glad to hear you made it out alive! Motorcycles always come out on the losing end, which really sucks, as they are a lot of fun. Hope you are back out fishing the slews again soon. Holy Cow! What was the weight of that Sturgern in your profile/avatar? WOW!!!
  20. Hey! I know Idaho is real! I have a friend, who has a brother, whose cousin married a woman whose great-grandfather (twice removed) actually used to live there. He moved away though, because one night he and the future Mrs. great grandfather, had parked at the local lovers leap, when he heard a scratchy noise and someone trying to get into his car. He drove off, real fast. When he stopped, he found a bloody hook in the car door handle. Honest! I know it's true. Cuz my friend told me!
  21. Congrats! I'm sure it is only the first of many. As you get more involved, don't forget other things in life as well. Like occasionally feeding the children, water the plants, an occasional shower. This is one hobby that is very addictive! Again.....WELCOME!
  22. Scroll to the end of the page, lower left corner. Box that says "Moderation Options". Click the down arrow and another option "Lock this Thread" is available. Chose it. Only the person who started the thread (And the mods) can close a thread.
  23. Some very cool pictures! I think the chick is a baby Bantam? (Feathers on the feet.) Thanks. I will go ahead and lock this thread now, since it really doesn't belong in the Getting started area and I am back to by responsible, non-tequila, state. Thanks All!! (Heading to medical cabinet for more Tylenol.....)
  24. Dang! Even when I REALLY try and do something bad, I fail! I'm way too much of a goody-two shoes! Ok....trying really hard.....Um! I know! Your momma wears ARMY BOOTS! Yeah. Take That. (Guess I should have stopped after the 3rd shot of tequila tonight...)
  25. I hav enotice the same thing as far as one cacher taking more than one jeep TB. I don't have a problem, IF they move it along in a TIMELY fashion. I think many jeeps are going to 'go missing'. I keep checking on Ebay, I figure it's just a matter of time before they hit the auction block.
