  1. I just joined a Yahoo! Group called Northeast Ohio Geocachers and the following list was posted there so I figured I'd share it here. All credit goes to serenitynow582. Sadly I have to confess #3 fits me perfectly lol. Top Ten Ways to Tell You're Addicted to Geocaching 10. You take sick leave from work to be FIRST to a cache. 9. You can read encrypted hints as quickly as unencrypted. 8. You begin referring to your pets with the prefix "Geo". 7. Someone asks you where the photocopier is and you say, "25 feet bearing 270". 6. Two words ----- Head Lamp. 5. You're looking at $1 dollar stores and garage sales with new interest because they are a source of Geocache "treasure". 4. YOU CREATE YOUR OWN LIGHTED GEOHIKING STICK FOR NIGHTCACHING. 3. You are the computer Geek with a tan. 2. You plan your entire vacation around Geocaching. 1. You plan on attending the NeoGeo Car Rally on Saturday, September 13, 2003. Teams will be competing for trophies and prizes by solving puzzles, searching by car for answers to clues, and finding a few new caches. This will be a potluck event. Look for more details in the future. If you enjoyed this top ten list check out this Geo Monkeys website: http://geomonkeys.com/main/Just_for_Fun/Yo...ou_know___.html. The inspiration and some of our top ten list came from the Geomonkeys site. If you see yourself in three or four of the entries on our list, you will definitely love their extended list. 2. Well I just had a dream last night that I was searching for a magnetic micro on a roadsign and some old man just walked right up and grabbed it out from under me and signed the logbook. For that to happen after only doing this for a week I guess meakes me a certified GeoAddict.
  3. Well I only have a TomTom One (3rd Edition) and while it's not very practical for this sort of thing I have still managed to log 16 finds in my very first week of searching. If I had the extra cash to throw around (which I definitely don't) I might invest in a handheld travel unit but this one seems to be doing ok for me. The downsides to a car GPS are a very short battery life (about 2 hours) and bulky enough that it takes a full hand to hold it leaving you only 1 hand to move branches, grab branches tp pull yourself up trails and steady yourself if you slip. One upside to the TomTom...if you get stuck in the woods at night (like I did last night) it makes a great lantern lol.
  4. Is it pronounced 'geo cash ing' or 'geo cash ay ing'?
  5. Sorry if there's another thread like this already but I thought it would be cool to start a topic for people to discuss how they first came across this game/sport/hobby. For me it was about a week ago...I was watching a program called Modern Marvels on The History Channel. It was about 90's tech, things like Furbies and DVDs and digital cameras and a cellphones, etc. Anyone that's ever watched this program knows just before they go to commercial they show a little interesting factoid. Well this one was about a 'game' involving items called geocaches so, being the gaming nerd I am I actually got back out of bed to come look it up on the computer to see what it was about. I already had a car GPS unit (TomTom One) so I thought this sounded like a unique and fun idea. And now a week later I have 15 finds and I'm hooked!
  6. Yeah I should add that this is a very inexpensive compact model. Not handheld but very lightweight and collapsable so carrying it around isn't a big deal.
  7. I'm looking to get my hands on this particular geocoin I came across. Sadly I have no coins for trade as I just started this hobby. I was told by another forum member Droo "The beast in the colour you posted is still available from the GeocoinClub for $15 + s&h. You could put in a trade request on the Trading thread to see if a GCC member would buy it for you.... " So I'm putting in my request for help. Thanks in advance
  8. I'm new to this whole Geocaching thing and so far I really like it. I love to collect things and tend to be quite OCD about it hehe. The coins look to me like a great new item to start collecting. I found a picture of one in particular that I am in love with but I have no idea how to go about getting one other than finding them in caches. Even then I'm sure people don't want you just taking them for your collection. If anyone knows anything about this particular coin and how to get ahold of one please let me know. Thanks.
  9. I just started this and so far I am having a blast even though my find ratio is at about 50%. One of the containers was an ammo box in the deep woods with a heavy cover of leaves and it was only the 2nd cache I found and I'm pretty sure if I hadn't used my metal detector I might not have found it. Or at least it cut way down on the time it would have taken me to find it otherwise. It's the only one I have found using the metal detector but I was wondering if this is at all considered 'cheating'? Because if so then I will leave the detector at home next time I go out because I want to play by the rules. I'm just very new to this and figure I need all the help I can get lol. Especially since I am using a TomTom One (3rd gen.) as it is all I have and I really can't afford to buy another one just for this hobby.
