  1. Hey Patter47, all the more reason to wear the foil on top of your head, they won't be able to pick up your brain waves from that satellite.

  3. Cache owner is not the first watcher. I have had a couple caches that did not have any watchers.
  4. If you know someone with a GPSr, try to borrow it or take them along on the hunt. You'll probably want to stop at the store on the way home to get your own then. Welcome

  6. Classic doesn't say where he is from, but the vegetation could be Kudzu vines. Even if the cache had been hidden this spring, the area could be completly changed due to the speed it grows, however, the machete should stay at home. I think I had read somewhere that this vine can grow 200' in a year. Don't sit still too long near this stuff.
  7. Don't hesitate to find your first cache either. "What's taking you so long?" hehe Welcome to the addiction.
  8. Here we go again, tupperware/ammo can. Some people just can't get it through their heads that tupperware has been blown up just as much as ammo cans. doh! quote:Originally posted by majicman: Amazing! Good retrieve! I use the ammo containers as often as I can, but in "urban" areas and parks, I stick to Clear tupperware (in case it gets accidently found, don't want no "Bomb Squad" blowing up my cache!!) --majicman (Always trade UP in both quantity and quality and Geocaches will be both self-sustaining and self-improving!)

jwest, another thing you could do, is mail it to Africa, have it travel around for a while, then change its goal to travel back to the states by cachers.

  11. Is there a branch of the HK goverenment that provides maps? Or try to find some nautical charts of the HK area. These would show Lat/Lon. I also know there is a hiking guide for HK which may show L/L, a friend was showing me pictures in the book of possible rock climbing areas off the trails.
  12. Sounds like Courtney has found a new store to hang around in. It's my kind of toy store. Cortney, if you didn't get any hiking socks with the boots, you should check out smartwools. You dont need to wear liner socks, they are very comfortable and come in several thickness' Expensive, but like boots, are made better and last longer.

  16. Any postings on an event cache page should be in the form of a note, not a find. When you show up for the event, you can log it as a find then. Some are picnics, where a cache will be hidden or a new one placed to commerate the event.

  18. When you get in the woods or when you get near the cache site? When you are near the coordinates, the numbers are going to bounce around a lot. This is where a compass comes in handy. Take a bearing from about 200' away, set this on the compass and follow the arrow the approx distance. Look in this area. Depending on how well the caches are hidden and the amount of traffic in an area can determine how often they are stolen. I had one stolen with in a few weeks, replaced it in a better hiding spot, has lasted several months now.
  19. The activation code or the tag number. If you need the activation code, Groundspeak should be able to help. You just need to give them time to answer. May take a few days. If it's the tag number, email the bug owner.
  20. I suppose I could start silk screening the Tibetan prayer flags, but I don't think they would be as cool as the ones I get from Kathmandu.

  22. quote:Originally posted by M-D-M Explorations: How about using a bird house as a cache? It could be hung in a tree on a low branch. This would probably be more useful for an urban cache. And of course you would have to cover the "door" so it did not end up occupied. And one wall could be a false wall that opens up to display the contents. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W One of the local Metro parks used a modified bluebird house to hide a cache. Normal BB houses are about 10" high, this one is about 24". Two doors, one for the birds house, one for the cache box. They also used one of the underground sprinkler control boxes to hide another. It's flush to the ground, a few leaves on it and it's hidden. The other two are in tree hollows, however, the second, you need to paddle, row or swim to reach it.
  23. Congradulations on your first.(of many[^]) I had so much fun on my first, I went and found another the same day. I plan on hitting the second again in a couple weeks on the 1 year ann. of when I started. (1st is archived)
