  1. No. The white background has nothing to do with any software upgrades, it is just a matter of changing the "Profile" files in the units internal memory. thanks eaparks
  2. Do I still need 2.98 to have the white background ?
  3. Hi there, I own an oregon 300 and love it. Now here is my view...Sometimes its better to pay a little more to have more options. You may get a less expensive unit and figure out that you would actually like a bit more features so if you had payed a little more than you do not have to buy another unit. I speek from experience. My 300 is great. Just my 2 cents !!
  4. Thanks Red90, I<ll give it a try and keep you updated but I may have some questions also. Hope you dont mind giving me a hand. Thanks
  5. Have you tried those '5 steps' and not been able to get it to work? Have you upgraded your GPS software to the beta required for the raster maps to work? I have version 3.20. I do not seem to understand what to do with Babel.
  6. I do not quite understand how this works. Does anyone have a more detailed explanation . Please help. here is the link to what I have tried. I have an Oregon 300. Thanks http://garmin.blogs.com/softwareupdates/trail-tech/
  7. DocDiTTo, Any way you could explain the procedure. I would love to try it but I need a little 'step by step' help. Thanks for the help !
  8. I didn't want to place it on a seperate sd card because that would be a pain but is it possible to place it on the same card I purchased from garmin. How much of it will fit on the internal memory.
  9. I have an oregon 300, here is my question: I already have a garmin topo sd card of my region which works great. I now wanted to add city navigator to my gpsr. Do I add it to the oregon internal memory or do I add it to the garmin topo sd card ( or is that possible ). Thanks for the help. I have not found a clear answer while reading other logs.
  10. Do you know how I can get the program? I'd be curious to try it..... http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php Here you go. check this site and download the TYRE software...
  11. It can be used for geocaching and you can add a program to help see caches on the screen. One of the problems however, is if the cache is too close to the road, it will have trouble getting a lock and will want you to stay on the road. Afterall, it is a street GPSr.
  12. Hope some one can help. i accidentally deleted my basemap.. What do i do to get it back ? Canada-US Thanks
  13. THANKS, I will have a good look at these. I realy enjoys understanding the toys I play with to the best of my abilities.
  14. Yes but did not find any details
  15. Hi. With all the new updates on the oregon series, where can one find the how to's so I know how to use them and what they are for ? ex: .... Added ability to load maps from any img file in the Garmin directory.....................waypoint averging.......etc Your help is much apreciated
  16. Don't get me wrong Maingray I realy like my Oregon but here is the point I'm trying to get across. It's as if I bought a cadillac with air conditionning but it only works on one fan speed instead of four. The manufacturer sais it will soon work on all four speeds so he tries stuff. the fan speeds work one day but not the next. So the manufacturer tries more stuff for months and months. Eventually you become a little tired of all this. Its only normal I beleive. There should be enough data now, with all these tests to make it work without any glitches ! I still love my Garmin
  17. My friend said "buy garmin, they're the best" so I did. Oregon 300. I just don't understand what is going on. I've had the unit for several months now and the updates are always BETA ??? So whats up with that ??? If their programmers aren't able to test these units before we do maybe they should sell these units a little cheaper !! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...........this is starting to PIS@$#?(&)*)(_)(_& me off. I was expecting a unit bug free. It's a good thing I don't treat my custommers this way. Just had to let out a little steam .... Thanks for letting me express myself !!
  18. Agreed, It's like having a Cadillac that's no better than a Lada !!!!
  19. Will Ibycus allow you to the `recalculate on road` as does the Garmin Topo map ? I find this usefull when geocaching with my oregon 300 . I'm heading to the US for summer vacation and did not want to purchase topo usa juste for 2 weeks. Thanks
  20. Just do a search with the Westin hotel postal code. Go to hide and seek, then under postal code, enter the hotel postal code and press GO Bingo! Now, pick the first cache and have a look at the map. There you will see all the nearby caches by with an overhead view. Much easier. Hope this helps a bit... That is one of the rubs. The hotel doesn't come up with the postal code when I did the search. Either that or I don't recognize it. They do look different than down here. Again I am new to this whole geo thing. Is this the address ?11 Colonel By Drive, K1N 9H4 Ottawa (Ontario). If so the postal code is k1n 9h4
  21. That is one of the rubs. The hotel doesn't come up with the postal code when I did the search. Either that or I don't recognize it. They do look different than down here. Again I am new to this whole geo thing. The postal code is always written as follows: letter, number, letter, space, number, letter, number ex:j3a 1r7

  23. I'd go for invisible shield also. I have one on my oregon 300, tomtom and digital camera. The thing is great and no bubbles after about 2 days. I even droped my oregon and had a little scratch on the shield. I don't know how but the scratch dissapeared after a few days. Wouldn't buy anything else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
