  1. Indeed so. Still kicking myself for not looking up when I went through that lock a month back, but I was more pre-occupied in not stuffing the prow of the 65' into the side of the lock. Actually contemplating hiring out a day boat from Hilperton to tackle this one. Of course I'd need a crew for that... Rik
  2. Anyone in the Bradford-Upon-Avon want to help me with this rather fun sounding 5/5 cache? Normally I'm a solitary cacher and happy to take on most things on my own, but all my knocking about with the Subterranea Britannica group (http://www.subbrit.org.uk) has taught me you never tackle a cache like this on your tod. URL to cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e9-36c0cdc94e9a Rik
  3. I'd vote for no because London is going to be a very twitchy place that summer, security wise. Last thing I'd want is to get my collar felt for acting in a highly suspect manner. Then there are all the other reasons - expensive to get to, expensive to stay there and finding a suitable venue, that is affordable might be issue. Rik
  4. there are thrre apps\available for the g1. . 1. geodrioid - available from the market-place.. 2. geobeagle. 3. cachemate of the three, i find geodroid the best, cachemate second and geobeagle next to uselees on top of that there are issues in that the phone is only good for urban / semi-rural caches and getting pocket quieries onto the phone is a real faff as it can only be done when you're connected to a PC, and not in the field. Rik
  5. Well I have emailed them on a number of occasions offering if they post it back to me I will refund the postage.
  6. CORRECTED... Whoops... missing '3' on the end... corrected: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1899333
  7. Only 24 hours? Actually did one a while back where I waited 48 hours - even then it simply wasn't enough... four drafts later I realised the best thing to say was DNF and leave it at that... Mind you still very annoyed by that particular cache - seemed to be designed so that only locals with intimate local knowledge could find it...
  8. Does anyone know this particular geocacher? If so could they please ask them exactly what are their intentions towards a geocoin of mine they picked up from Reach for the Sky on 12/3/2009 and nothing since: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1899333 I have emailed the Sladonians repeatedly over the last few months but have had no reply. As the coin was given to my son on his birthday he's feeling just a little gutted that this coin was picked up and never deposited anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rik
  9. Thanks guys. Various adoption requests sent out... Be gentle with them
  10. I'm lookng for someone to adopt the following caches: SideTracked - Bristol Parkway Station (GC1H6C1) Titanium Staff (GC1HQ0A) The Staplehill Ritual (GC1RB4Y) NCR - Private Godfrey's Station (GC1H39W) If you think you can help take on one or more of these caches please contact me ASAP: Reason is that I'm no longer living in the Bristol area. Rik
  11. Yeah I saw that too... Wonder how long it will be before there are copycat attacks in different parts of the country? It is interesting though, that these people would actually log their attacks. Seems pretty pointless. Tsiolkovsky
  12. It's the county where you find Colchester, or so I am led to believe...

  14. Ethical problem take #2: So the Moscow Rules series have been adopted and are now out of my control. Is it ethically right to visit these caches and log them as finds before I leave the area? Problems, problems, problems
  15. Patient ;-) Or possibly for SO's I suggest something like Cache-widow(er)s. Or if we follow the lead of the Church o SubGenius and call them 'pinks'.
  16. Which BTW is a corker of a hide! In answer to your question I'm moving to Frome - which admittedly isn't that far from Bristol but does mean I won't be able to maintain my regular cache update cycle. Luckily I have found some very nice people to look after both the crypto and traditional caches so they are still going to be available. Which may or may not be a blessing. Tsiolkovsky
  17. British army cammo stick, one for the use of.
  18. Hmm... AES you say? Way too easy... We're talking elliptic curves here... Seriously I a do have a Moscow Rules #4 ready - just don't know whether to place it as I'm being forced to relocate away from Bristol. Tsiolkovsky
  19. After all those self same reviewers must have approved the 6 Tyntesfield Geocaches (GC1PVZT, GC1PVZN, GC1PVZA, GC19RCZ, GC19RCY, GC19RCX) which were put in by the National Trust themselves. So I imagine the reviewers will have had some good advice. Tsiolkovsky
  20. This is interesting. I've been doing this hobby since June '08 so I'm a relative new comer to it all but I have discoverdd a couple of interesting things. I do like to find caches. The reason is that by finding them I'm getting fit. But I'm not a big fan of the big bag in a day - Generally 4 or 5 is enough for me and those tend to be spread out a ways - so I can cycle / walk between them. Although I recently did complete a 24 cache series - mostly because I saw this as a challenge to my fitness levels (.i.e would I be too tired to complete it). I don't suffer from FTF Fetish - something that quite a lot of cachers seem to suffer from, and in fact I do wonder if this does put some people off, seeing the same old faces FTFing on the logs? Now as to putting in caches - I enojy doing that too, as long as they are in interesting or unusual places or provide an interesting challenge. Now whilst I admit I was initially seduced by the nano - look at it, it's utra-tiny...! I've now 'upgraded' my nano's to micros or bigger and have placed the nano's in storage. The main interest I get is in how long it takes someone to find it. The record for least time for one of mine is 12 mins. The most was 5 days (for one of my encrypted mystery caches). Do I think there are too many caches? Well I'm not a great exponent of the punch-syndrome "It was funnier / better / tougher in days gone by" but I am just a little peeved at the predominance of the micro and nano which does suggest a lack of imagination on the placer's behalf, something I suffered from and can only come with experience. I guess I am a 50/50 hider and seeker but with a side order of cache container collection. I now have an inordinate amount of cache containers I've acquired in the last few months and no place to put them (yet). Tsiolkovsky
  21. Easter was an interesting one for me. The Thursday before I was in Reading and travelling up by train to Derbyshire. This meant two changes of trains: Derby & Chesterfield. I stopped off in Derby to do a couple of quick caches - the first was the "Pentrich Revolution 4 - Jeremiah Brandreth" (GC1H2TG) and the second was the the Derby Midland Station SideTracked (GC1J8TH) - which turned into a bit of a marathon due to a Railway worker on an extended break. Then when I got to Chesterfield I did the C.O.D Crooked Spire (GCZ1BM) Micro - How hard is it really to build a spire properly? After this one I tracked across Chesterfield to delightful Queen's Park-Urban Oasis (GC1GP41) where I watched the cricket team practicing in the rain! That was it for the day... Good Friday saw me in Matlock doing Bridget (GC1P8WJ) and then Easter Sunday I finally managed to nail Pining for Farley Woods (GC12H00) before heading back down South on Monday. All in low numbers of caches but they were all different and all interesting. A mixture of urban and rural caches. Tsiolkovsky
  22. Mind you this has to be the most appauling thing ever: GCV7W8 I mean what kind of a person does that!!!! I have felt terrible when I heard, after all I was the last person to find it in tact.. I have often wondered if I didn't cover it up properly enough. Tsiolkovsky
  23. That is possibly one of the most evil things I've heard... Brilliant in it's simplicity... Thanks everyone for the advice. I will plot something simple... Tsiolkovsky
