  1. Hmm interesting on the tootsie roll container, but is it watertight? Logbook might get damp quick.
  2. Kinda looking still. Someone else emailed me and said they took one too, but they said their picture was blurry and you might not be able to make the coords out. Nice to have a few willing people, I guess I'll just say it's 1st come 1st served. So the first one to get a viewable picture up on the locationless cache page to post as a find will be the one that gets it Thanks for the help everyone!
  3. Hey all, TotemLake said I should keep everybody informed of my upcoming visit to the Seattle area in here. I'm planning on being out in Seattle on the first weekend in October, and with any luck, I'm hoping to get my 500th find on the trip (I started caching in January of this year). I don't expect I can do a ton of caching while I'm out there (My girlfriend naturally expects more of my time while I'm visiting) but I'd be glad to meet some of the local geocachers, perhaps to help celebrate my 500? Anyways, just thought I'd post and see what happens.
  4. Thanks for trying The Big Kid. Glad ya didn't risk anyones safety to get it anyways Sounds like it was a rougher trip. I'll check with Dino to see if they're still interested in helping. Thanks again!
  5. So how long till they get minted? Since I'll be out there on the first weekend in October, would I be able to pick em up in person?
  6. I tried some of the energizer long life batteries (the e2 titaniums) and found to my dismay they actually didn't even last as long as a regular set, what a jip that was. For now I just buy the super pack at the local home depot. 36 energizers for 13 bucks, not too bad a deal, and that'll keep my GPSr going, and going and going.
  7. Nice to see Washington is laying the groundwork for other like minded associations from other states (like mine, Minnesota) to be able to get their own trackable coins in the future. Good luck, I hope this works out (Hey does that mean I might get yet another icon on my profile if I nab or get one of these?)
  8. Well put me down for a couple. It's okay if an out of stater buys some right? I figure it'll be the only way I'll run across one Unless I'm realllllyyy lucky on my next trip out there (which btw is the 1st week of October, would be cool to meet some of the locals if I get the chance)

    Congrats to the moun10bike family
  10. After thinking of these ammo boxes some more, I wondered how funny it'd be if you could by some miracle win an auction of a pallet load of ammo boxes, place the entire pallet somewhere it wouldn't be an eyesore, waste of space, against the rules, whathave you. Trick is they're all empty, save one, which would be the actual cache. Maybe that's just too evil.......
  11. I'm sure there's logistics as to why, but aren't normal geocoins and travelbugs numbered sequentially? Not sure why it'd be different for these guys, but of course, I'm not with TPTB, so who knows why?
  12. I've seen some painted with fleck stone, and one in town here is done up as a travel bug graveyard cache, that ones painted up to look like a tombstone. On a slightly off tangent thing, I just found out my father is involved with a VFW post in town, and he can get me all the ammo boxes I'd ever want, for free!
  13. Thanks for trying Big Kid. I'm willing to wait a couple weeks to see if you are successful before trying along the longitude. I thought about Canada first because I live in Minnesota, which borders the country. Plus I've always prefered more nothern locations, so that's why I was thinking of Canada first. Good luck on the road trip!

    Personal Tb

I log mine through at least one memorable cache I hit on a trip, logging it at each cache would be too much of a pain. I can sum up my days events in the logs on it though, and if people are interested in seeing how my geocaching is going, it's easy to look up a travel bug and just read the logs I place there. So I kinda rack mileage on it, not that I care so much about that, just something to do.
  15. Luckily I've never had a reaction to poison ivy. I do know what it looks like, and always keep an eye out for it. Managed to run into this field full of it on the way to a cache last week. Yes, that's a path down the middle of it, and yes, all the plants on the ground are indeed poison ivy. I walked it anyways, thankful I had long pants on, I may not have a reaction to it, but that doesn't mean I want to rub it all over myself.
  16. One of the locals I cache with has a tradition of hitting up a Chipotle after a caching trip, always seemed like a good idea to me.
  17. I'm still laughing here Great idea!
  18. Hey all, I'm not sure what area of Canada this will be in, but I'm looking for anyone that would like to help me get the locationless Where's in a Name? cache. My nickname converts to 52° 04.760 (last digit can be anything really, as my nick is only 6 letters long). So if anyone is near this North coordinate, has a digital camera, and is willing to help (you get credit for the cache too), let me know. Thanks!
  19. Not being a native of the state, looks like you guys got some great ideas for a coin. But since my girlfriend lives in the state (got to meet her while visiting my sister who lives out there too), it's getting to be more of a second home to me. And if they do get made (which I have no doubt of) that'll be one more goal for me to try and get one of those on my next trip out there. Darn, almost thinkin I should get my own geocoin made up so I have something worthy to trade for all the great geocoins I'm seeing popping up in Washington
  20. If you follow that link, you can register to win a GPS, heck why not? Could always use a backup.
  21. interesting ideas all. I'll have to think up some nice tech style ones. I'd discourage building any sort of RF scrambler though, especially to block GPS signals. To me, that would be a BIG nono with the FCC, not to mention the military, etc. Usually what I get with those frequencies is "feel free to use them, but don't mess with em". Lights and beeping things are nice, but surely there's other forms of tech one could use... And don't forget, caches in the parks often tend to get damaged or destroyed by the elements, muggles, or other ways. Think up cheap tech if you can
  22. Usually you can find em at a hardware store. Found mine at Home Depot of all places.
  23. I was able to make a golfball cache. Yeah I knew about the liquid center balls and the rubberband ones, but I found that a range ball is usually just a solid hunk of rubbery style material, wrapped in the typical golf ball shell. My attempt worked great, and I'm finding these ones around the house all the time, due to the close proximity of a driving range. Even went a bit crazy and drilled out 5 or 6 of these guys. After I added a rubber stopper to the hole, I found that this thing is water tight even, but has only enough room for a stubby pencil and wrapped up paper for a log book. Even got the fancy idea of using a piece of a straw to go around the rolled up paper, making retrieval of the log a snap, it doesn't get stuck in the container!
  24. I know about this one, I haven't been to it yet though. When Darkness Falls....... Saving it for the Fall though, because the park closes at 11 pm, and I'd be rushed after dark right now to find it. Besides, I'm thinking it'll be fun to do around halloween That's one thing to consider when placing night caches in parks though, some don't stay open after dark (hence the posted sings, only open sunrise to sunset), so make sure to pick an area where it's okay. BTW, loved the idea on the Halo theme!
  25. Makes me wish I was in Northern New York. Nice handouts! I've been there once on a business trip, nice area. As for the YJTB map, that'd be interesting!
