  1. That was interesting! I imaged it to be a youngsters game (under 35) so I'm surprised by the result.
  2. OK Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but you are entering your password in when you try to change your signature, right?
  3. Thanks to whoever fixed this! All is working well on Chrome.
  4. For some it's about the numbers. For some it's about the fun. I guess there are plenty of cachers for whom the numbers are the fun part. I think most people will have differing reasons for starting, enjoying and continuing this activity and no-one has the right to look down on someone else because their reason is different. Live and let live. Next time someone tries to put you down because you've not found as many as they have, smile at them and say 'well, it must be really nice to have your amount of free time! I'd love to be able to cache more often'. There's not much they can say to that.
  5. My husband and I are noobs at this, but after our 4th find we vowed never to skim over the description again! The description in question was very long and told the story of why the cacher hid something in the place he did. It was a detailed 3rd person account of his journey and method and I kind of lost interest... The hint was something like 'when you've found the white cross, look 30cm up'. We found the cross easily enough, which was at head height but it was carved into solid, sheer rock. My husband tried scrambling up the rockface, only to fall down a few times, but there were no crevices, nothing! Tired, muddy and in a bad mood we were about to give up when I read the description and realised that when we got to the white cross, we should look at the rock face directly opposite! The cache was 30cm up from the ground, not the cross and we found it in about 5 seconds after we were facing in the right direction! How silly.. So yes, now we always read the description...
  6. Me and my husband cache together, so we just have this one account. We both made one at the start, but it got a bit silly saying the same thing all the time in the comments, so we decided to just stick with one.
  7. How about Coordy? A bit like the shortened form of Cordelia, so it's not too weird...
  8. From one noob to another - read the description carefully, and keep your common sense. Recently we had a cache where I just skimmed the description and we relied on the coordinates and the clue. This meant I missed a vital piece of information that made it impossible to find the cache, and put us in danger. The difficulty and terrain ratings were only a 1 or 1.5 or so, so if we'd have used our sense instead of steaming ahead without thinking, we'd have realised that finding it wouldn't have been as hard as we were making it. So yeah - read carefully and don't lose your head. Just my advice from our limited experience!
  9. Thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated! It's clearer now
  10. Hi! I'm a newbie to this and I'm not really great with technology, so I have a question. Right now we're geocaching with an iPhone, but we'll be getting a GPS soonish. I've been looking around and I'm not sure I understand about the different types of map. Most GPSs seem to come with a basemap, but then there are also 'topo maps' 'city guides' 'metro guides' and more. This is where confusion seeps in. Which of these do we need for geocaching? Is it possible to geocache with a basemap alone? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'd really appreciate the help!
  11. Hi! 'Vilome' is actually two people! We are a married couple (since May this year!) and we live and cache in Germany. We only just started a couple of weeks ago, but we're enjoying it. See you around the forum! Vilome
