  1. All three series go to Michigan (not at same time), and Phoneix (3 straight days in November). The old Winston Million was the oldest race (southern 500), longest race (Charlotte 600), fastest race (Talladega, spring I think) and biggest purse (richest- Datyona 500). Oh, racing 43 bugs by yourself wouldn't have been as much fun anyways. Can I have dibs on JR? only cause I think he'll move the best!! or wind up in some girls purse for the whole season......
  2. PS- the caches near tracks. Terraserver or some other websites ( I can't remember which ones) can give you co-ords based on street addresses of all tracks (get the UPS Shipping address not the mail box) and a search could be done on the closest caches. You could tyhen contact the owner to make sure they are suitable (not a micro- not likely to be archived halfway through the race) Just takes a lot of time.
  3. Hmm... was thinking of similar. A couple quick ideas. There's plenty of time to organize a 2005 NASCAR Travel bug race. Maybe get a few others involved so you don't have to do all the work and allow some interesting things. Like maybe the mass release occurs in Daytona Beach on the Sunday after the Budweiser Shootout? That can be arranged most likely. A points system with "Lap Leader Bonuses" for things like a picture of the bug in Victory Lane, etc. Check out this link for a previous one HERE Contact the organizers of the Cannonball Run and get some input from their experiences. And lastly, just being honest- I would hesitate to mail you an entry fee when you say "Of course, I'm doing this like this because finances prohibit me from doing it on my own". What's that mean? The biggest investment you'll need to make is time- for planning and preperation and to follow through and update the points. there is no way you could ever reach more potential participants than this forum. Just my quick thoughts- would be happy to discuss my ideas furthur by email-
  4. What do you think of having your travel bug placed in that cache in Tibet?
  5. I repeat "Forte Free Agent". There is whole other world out there-------try a specific newsreader.
  6. I have an idea- but as I think it out I have to admit I don't know if it is possible. It would be a virtual drive tour. (please let's not debate virtuals or WOW factor, let me worry about that when I submit it). Instead of a picture with X or information from X marker, the requirement for logging would be a clear picture of a tracklog on the screen of your GPSr. It would be instantly identifiable to me that they actually drove the correct route. The route would be aproximately 3 miles E-W and 2 miles N-S. Is this even possible given the wide variety of units out there? I use a plam pda and I know I could create this with the standard NAV Companion, and will test it tomorrow with XMap HandHeld. I also think we need some testing on wether you can take a clear picture of a GPSr screen, I'll work on that one too. If the requirement was that you submitted a tracklog picture to claim the find would you go for it? What are the thoughts from the community? (My apolgies if this belongs in getting started, but i didn't think so)
  7. The Camp's website edit- by the way- go to the photo gallery and click on the bottom picture in the first column- I don't think firearm safety is a course in the type of camp most of you think this one is!
  8. Other sites have to make people want to post there- they need to compete by differentiating themselves, or providing a superior product, or some other manner. They need to sit down and identify the barriers to entry and formulate a strategy. For more on this read, this article here I have snipped the following quote: I'm not of the opinion that anyone should ever be asked to apologize for being successful. Who is John Galt? I will apologize for being part of turning this thread a bad direction- we've probably chased Jeremy away now. Edited to add: I have a very hard time finding Black Raspberry since I moved West, what's up with that?
  9. When you answer this one could you please let me know why there is competition between Ford and GM, Coke and Pepsi, Budweiser and Miller, Toyota and Honda, Lowes and Home Depot, Republicans and Democrats, McDonalds and Burger King........... should I continue? how about VHS and Betamax, minidisc and digital audio tape(DAT), windows and IBM OS/2, atari and colecovision....
  10. A court who makes a decision--that's passing a judgement. From what I've seen of the people on this site (don't know about the other), all I could say is "good luck." Great thoery- but so was commmunism, it just doesn't work in the real world. Now to inject some serious advice- a mediation panel who has no power to make any decisions but works to help both sides work out a win-win arrangement, that could fly. You've met those people before- they are the "peace keepers" who ask insightful questions of both parties in the forums.
  11. I am holding a travel bug (cyberbunny) which has a goal of visting NASCAR tracks. I intend to take it to Phoenix Raceway this weekend, take some pictures and then take with me to Watkins Glen the first week of August. On Monday or Sunday after the race it will be placed in a cache somewhere near by. Would it be generally accepted by "members of this community" if I posted a note on the three most likely candidates for future placement; to look for it on such and such a date? My thought is "unkown cacher X", a nascar fan, goes to the race and looks for local caches they can do while there. They read the note beforehand and make a point of seeking out cyberbunny. I figure a NASCAR themed bug will travel better with a NASCAR fan. 2 issues I have considered: I may be able to place it as early as 1pm Sunday but may not be able to log it until Tuesday. It should be picked up and gone by then if it works. All three of my choices may be missing or I may be unable to find them. I have also considered the travel bug owner and am going to copy him on this post---just so you know. His/her opinion will weigh heavily. Also, if you can get a NASCAR theme bug to the Glen before Wednesday or after 1pm Sunday, let me know...I'll gladly take it to Phoenix
  12. Look at the Cindy tb (here) I think this makes it to alot of event caches where it serves as a "booby prize". It has traveled almost 2000 miles!!! Do it!
  13. I'd visit it only after I mark my kids as travel bugs and drop them off for free daycare!!!!
  14. AS77, Left the garage door open one night after dark. Heard a scratching at the door between the house and the garage, so I went to let the dog in----oops, I never let him out!----hello Mr. Skunk! I slammed the door in his face, he ran to the back of the garage and hid.
  15. I Have twin girls, age 8. they love caching. One advantage- they are closer to the ground and often find the cache after being pointed in the right direction because of their lower angle view!!!!
  16. Goes by the name of "Montezuma's Ferrari" (a book by Burt Levy)
  17. I'll make a guess only if you stand downwind of me...... My best skunk story involves one inside my garage at night.....
  18. Several of the comments here, and a personal experience, lead me to ask a serious question. Does your local Fire/Ambulance have GPSr's in all their units? Especially if you are rural, far from a population center? If the answer is no and you have any kind of Geocacher's club or organization........... I'm not trying to be a social engineer but it would be a great way to contribute to the community for the betterment of all. You don't have to buy all their units, and you don't have to do it yourself- you could be the driving force behind a community drive or event. Run a booth at your local fair with proceeds to be used....Place change jars at the favorite food and gas joint, etc. Oh -I use mine for marking favorite campsites in the National Forest, ocassionally for street directions, a lot to keep tracklogs of offroad drives, and I really like the ETA feature on road trips.
  19. Works like this..... choose locationless as type Check the radio button for States/Provinces and then use Shift-Right Click to select everyone of them. Be sure to leave "from origin" as "none selected" Run the query once (since there are not going to be new locatinless' for a while) By the way- the States/Provinces includes a "none" choice as well as some Australian "States" and others I don't recognize--- so this method will give you all--including foriegn origin locationless caches in your gpx file Thanks go to Keystone Approver for teaching me how.
