  1. Would you trade for a 2005 GBES Navigational Ralley Coin? -OR- Edit to add: 2005 Michigan Georgia Idaho Conejo cachers 2004 Calgary
  2. From what i experienced with my Outdoor Products pack, the bite valve tends to drip, and I know others that have a leaking bladder problem on the seams. Not a great products from what i have used and seen. They sell these at Target. Wish i had saved my money and just goe with the better brand at the start of things.
  3. i just got a Kelty Redtail 1600 and a Camelbak 100 oz unbottle and love it. Right size for most hikes i do. Not too big, but large enough i can fit a 50 cal ammo can in it to place a cache when i want to.
  4. I don't want activated coins. Alot of people collect, some people trade. If i trade a coin to someone i don't want it activated in my name or theirs activated and now its mine. Probably easiest to let people activate if they one. One less headache for you anyhow.
  5. You would probably be better off asking that in the travel bug forum. Someone there might know more about them and their release. I'm just trying to find out about the icons in this thread.
  6. The bells i would guess won't since theres only 100 of them released. The new Jeeps i would guess will since there will probably be in excess of 5000 like last year. Of course an answer from TPTB would be cool on both of these, but i would like to really know about the coins that have already been sold as trackable on here. Shouldn't they have their own icon instaed of using a plain default icon for all coins even though they are different.
  7. The Red Bells are nothing more than a hitchhiker from my understanding. They have a travel bug tag attached to them. The German coin and Geowoodstock coins are both trackable here on their own. I am also wondering about the new Jeep program. (i know its too early yet) But will they have a seperate icon as well?
  8. Would it be to hard to ask that we change the icons for the German Geocoins to look somewhat different than the USA ones. Since they ar unique, shouldn't their icon be unique as well? As far as that goes, could any other coin or trackable item have its own icon (Geowoodstock coins, etc)? I know it will never be a high priority but maybe a easy one to change. Might help the bugs/coins out moving if they are differnt as people try to "collect" the different icons. Thanks for listening
  9. check the local army navy. may or may not be better than cheaperthandirt. mine sells them for $3 30 cal and $5 for 50 cal and pretty good shape
  10. I have a sportrak map. got it for xmas 03 and has started getting the cracks. I talked to numerous guys at Magellan and finally after working on one guy long enough, the best deal i could get was trade mine in on the sportrak color for $150. i went with it since they were willing to send that one out first and when i get return mine. Can't have any down time with summer coming. All in all it was a pain in the butt but i got color now. hope theres no problems there
  11. Sorry for this being off topic and will post anew if asked: Does the german coin symbol have to be identical to the USA coin? Haven't seen the Geowoodstock one yet but i hope that different also. Back on topic: Any good publicity for GC is good for all of us. If they want to pay to place something here than they must like what we are doing and what we stand for. This will go a long way in the world of public opinion and dispell some nasty rumors that we are nothing but a bunch of holigans out running around cemtaries at night with no respect for the dead. If i was able, i would love to form a team and travel to this event. Sounds like fun to me.
  12. Has this idea died a quick death or are there items in the works to hook newbies up with some locals to show them the ropes? Thought that with summer and heavy caching season coming something would be put in place. Might also help eliminate the duplicate questions on the boards even.
  13. I'm sorry if i misunderstood where you were coing from then as i think most of us responding to you did. From your text of calling it silly and not really thinking it would be enforced, you appeared on the other side of the fence. More to do to help would be attend the meetings that have been metioned before, remain positive and thoughtful in the threads, continue to make your elected officials understand the vastness of these actions. Maybe someone could update a list here again with the names and numbers of officials to contact since its gotten buried pretty quickly in this thread.
  14. And the people here are trying to combat them trying outlaw the geocaching in any area they see fit to. Without the gps we dont have geocaching. Its not about killing tourism, its about killing a game which teaches about history, get people involved, and gets people out of their arm chairs and using their body, which for some is the only reason we walk anywhere. By what i read from your comments is you don't have a problem with them limiting geocaching then? You are fine with the bill/law as is proposed? I don't thinkwe need more laws, just enforcement of what is alredy on the books.
  15. I don't know if you get it fully or are just trying o play devils advocate...This is not silly, at least to a major section of cachers and people who enjoy the areas now. Just because (A) the officer is not well informed of the new law , or ( he does not feel like enforcing it is not the point. The point is that it is still the law and in order for you to enjoy the game as we know it, you must break a law. This means you CAN be held accountable for your actions which are no more than sightseeing in some cases. Why make it so that when some politician or police chief needed revenue, all he has to do it sit there and ticket you for GPS usage. Don't you see the waste of money going into making this a law? Something you yourself say is unenforcable. If nothing else that should cause you to get upset. As far as the part about finding containers and most tourists aren't going to be doing this....the key word is MOST. Should this be illegal for any of them? If this doesnt affect then great. But at the same time if you don't fell this will affect you and is silly, then why take a stance against the people who feel it does affect them and belittle what they are trying to do. Personally if i didn't agree to he point i thought they were being silly i would sit back and watch at the very most. Nothing bad can come from the cachers trying to stop a bill from becoming a law. You can only reap the benefits of them stopping it.
  16. So what we have is alot of people trying to make somethig into law that will never be enforced...Then why the bother of putting into law. And if something is a law i surely would want it enforced otherwise its a complete waste of my tax dollars from the day they started taking about it all the way through the printing of it in the books. From what i have read, this isn't about walking in the woods, this has to do with a much larger area than that. The point is not whether tickets will be written but rather why are we being forced to break the law just to explore and learn more about our history in a more modern fashion. If we were exploring these areas with a paper map e wouldn't be subject to this law but since our map is electronic we are. I have never cached in SC but i don't like the way a few people are able to get a few government officials behind them to create something that will take my rights away. If i am not bothering anyone or causing any destruction, while at the same time i am learning about our history and remember those before me in my own way, then who's buisness is it to tell me i am not playing their way. Private areas already have laws against this, called tresspassing. We also have laws against vandalism. We don't need more laws against things, we need enforcement that is already on the books. We also need to encourage our children to go to these areas and learn to have respect for the things that have happened and the ones who mad us who we are. If using a GPS is the way to do it, then this should be encouraged not considered law breaking. If you don't live in an area where this could happen then thats great. If you don't care one way or the other, then that too is your choice. But for some people living in this area, this is very real to them. So please don't make this so trivial and treat the posters here as being anti-productive. They are trying to be very productive by attending meetings and trying to explain the great merits geocachers bring to the table. We should be showing them our support and not creating an environment where the politicians and such decide when and where we play.
  17. Here is , from what i know, to be the first one . It was placed by drossdross here in the Pittsburgh area.
  18. Wouldn't the easiest and most fun way to know if it's a good log or not be go back up there and find it, then check the log book. You get your bonus and at the same time you get the answers you are looking for.
  19. Are you one of the ones going to be doing the replacing by coughing up the 30 bucks to support the site that you use? We need more people like yourself willing to do that to help maintain this place. Now will that be cash, check,or paypal?
  20. So treat the people thinking about giving you money better than the ones who already do is a good buisness decision? I'm not sure that would work in any business yet alone a service. You would have to attract enough new customers to fill the spots vacated by the ones who left because of the lack of service and then pick up more to increase your buisness. Better yet is keep those you have happy and just word of mouth will increase your numbers. I would never rely on people who are browsing to decide. They make their decisions based by what alot of premiuims say the benefits are. Just look for the various threads as to why people are premium. Most will tell your PQ's and to help support the site. Stopping them/us from having access on weekends would be about the worse thing that could happen. Just not a good solution.
  21. I don't think its selfsh at all. I do appreciate what has been accomplished with what they have to this point. But like everything else there comes a time when its just not keeping up. I am not blaming anyone or trying to complain too much, but i dont think selfish is what we should be labeled as. You pay for phone service monthly. If you need to make a call and can't get a dial tone because your neighbor is using your phone line for free. Would you wait patiently till Tuesday to make your call? Should you have to. Like everything in life, those who pay move to the front. When times are good no one cares if anyone is paying. When times are like this we want what we paid for. I pay for the PQ and i do feel the need to help the site with their costs of me using their site. But when they set the costs and i pay them, then i expect a certain level of service. I don't think the level of service of "i would like to log my caches today" is an unrealistic request. I'm very sorry if this comes across as being selfish to you.
