  1. I have the 60CS set to Garmin, and the EasyGPS sees it. But sends an error saying "No data was recieved " and when I close that another one comes and says " This program recieved data it could not understand". EasyGps sees the 60Cs in test and preferences and my Garmin is set to "Garmin". But also the EasyGps says it sees "GPS model 291 version 3.50 " . I tried to uninstall and install, but no luck. It works fine with NGTopo,DeLorme Topo, Mapsource. Any suggestions?
  2. You have to be careful some of them are just them drawing the trail not actual "been there and loaded into Topo". I have hiked some of the same and recorded them so I can compare. As we all know trails change alot.
  3. My unit just came back for problem listed in my post below. What the paper says that they ship with the unit is this "Confirmed problem. No data was available for transfer. Unit was reset to factory setting to remove corrupted data. Repaced the rear case and battery door. Unit was subjected to vibration sand a vacuum at bench;unit met all criteria. Verified the unit works on AA and external power. Updated softeware to latest version and aligned unit to optimum performance. Unit passes its ATE tests and is operating within normal limits. OK to return to service. Verified the unit acquired 3D NAV in less than a minute. Thank you for chooseing GARMIN. Repair cost $0.00 They did put in the foam type springs like in the pics. Other than that no difference in door that I can see, but if I have a problem I migh try some foam between door and batteries. But now I can't upload to EasyGPS. It works o.k. with Mapsource,NGTopo and DeLorme Topo 5.0 We'll I'm going on a 20 mi. hike up to some summits and an overniter with it so I'll post Tue. morn. if any shut offs.
  4. Well I was on a back trail when it happened and at two different locations not related. Also I tapped the unit in my hand and it shut off though I had to tap it hard. And in hiking it wouldn't get tapped that hard. So I"m open to firmware problems with 3.5. But i'll try to turn it upside down and tap like GotGpS did also to see what happens. I sent it in so I'll keep us posted to see what they do in for the batteries and will post back if any more shut downs. Garmin takes a while to digest the info. Give them time.
  5. Seemed that way with me also. I never had problems since April. It happened to me on Aug. 1st. 3.50 didn't come out til the 8th. Alhough I had the beta version. But also it could be the clips are losing some of there spring.
  6. I might have had that problem with the waypoints being off. I'm not sure what exactly is the situation. I believe no all of the waypoints are off just some. So what do you think is happening? And how to fix? I didn't clearly understand what you meant. Capt.
  7. 76C? I had two 76S's and never had shut downs. I don't use them with bikes,or motercycles,etc.
  8. A good option but I've probably called 10 times and never spoken to a human and emailed them 2 times and never received a reply. Makes it tough to ask them anything wow, they must be getting worse. I called a year ago or so and got the newer cd's for $15.00's. But I needed the 3.4.3. with them. I had the trouble above so I canned the new CD's. I might try the new update also if it has good changes. But I'll back up my drive with a ghost image just incase it corrupts anything again. It's work fine. Just wish it did more like edit tracks, and transfer tracks, usb support. Am I asking too much?
  9. We'll I sent it in for a check out to Garmin last week. I'll let you guys know what they've done or didn't do. They said two weeks or less and they will ship out 2nd day FedEx.
  10. When you get it back from Garmin take another dump and see if it still leaks. If it does then tell them and see what they say and or get a waterproof bag. Alos Try the 76CS it might be better.
  11. I agree with you also. I like the 2.77's ability to seperate the files. i.e. tpg, tpo. Also I found the 2.77 better then the 2.75 and have had no issues with it. I've used it now for years. I wish they'd at least come out with a upgrade once a year of some kind with improvements to the funtions or gps support. i.e. edit tracks, send tracks. I'd pay for that.
  12. I'm glad to hear your straightened out. I think it depends on the cd set you have. If it's been sitting in a store a while or you got it used then that might explain the need for the 2.77. I did get the newer cd's from them as a $15.00 upgrade but I got rid of them. I found it to be two messed up with my current one and not worth the difference between the two. But If I didn't have any trace of NGTopo or I was a first time buyer the newer versions might be o.k. I would think. Capt.
  13. Hit the menu button and then the tracks icon. In there click on setup. You'll find a choice of colors for the track, etc.
  14. Works good with mine. I use it all the time. I set the NG gps preferences for 76S.
  15. I have NorthEastern USA also. The 10 CD set. The 277 is the upgrade for the states which is the Northeastern USA. But They came out with newer version cd's to go with V.3.43. The newer one is similar and changed only a few things. One is to download to a hand held pc. I'd try 2.77 also or do a clean install for your cd version and try the 3.43 upgrade again. Or find out what update version your cd set is supposed to use. On the CD's the ver. should be printed on the label. Mine is. Make sure you have the upgrade for the state series. That's all ours is is cd's of states basicaly. It should work. I had the exact same problem. The newer 3.43 v. wants to convert my files to the newer format and that I think screwit all up.
  16. Also before you send to gps try saveing the file your making first. That might lock it into the program better. Check you setting also for the gps. For the 60CS I have I use 76S by Garmin. Maybe another gps choice in preferences will help, but I'd do a clean install first. Make sure you restart after uninstall and install. Good Luck keep us posted. Capt.
  17. I had the same problem awhile ago. It would load only a few of the waypoints also or part of a route I was making. I'm sorry I don't have specfic's but I know for sure that when I tried to upgrade to the 3.43 it corrupted it bad so I reverted back. I uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it. I then used the upgrade 2.77 and all was good, but I have the prior cd set like I said. My cd's say ver. 2.53. I would uninstall it and restart then install fresh. It might have been that I corupted something also. It's been working like a charm and I couldn't get it to go for the longest time. Mike at tech support couldn't figure it out either. Start fresh and add a little at a time to find out what's corrupting it.
  18. I've got an older version of the NG's Topo. It won't run on the new udate. You have to have the new cds' for that. If your not sure what cd's you have Uninstall and run their 2.77 upgrade available for the state series I belive.. That's the only one that will work for me.
  19. Well I've got an update on my shutdowns. I hiked for two days this weekend and found that on the way in it was o.k. the first day. One the way out the second I changed just before leaving and had a few shut downs within a few hours. I took the batteries out and reinstalled them and all was fine for the last 2 hours. But I've never had shut down's since April til recently and I've used it alot. So my conclusion now is that the terminals or a terminal might be loseing strength, spring, reflex to hold the contact with the batteries. I will run it with tonite with fully charged batteries til it runs out and see if it shuts down before a long run of time. I've gotten at least 10 hrs. on batteries so it should do it inside. If it shuts down premature then something on the inside is failing. Capt.
  20. I have an antenna with a right angle as well. It goes in far enough to work but does look like it could go in further. As a note though the connector on my antenna is so tight I have to use a screwdriver to pry it back out. Also I have not had the shut off issue. I'm still running sw version 3.30. Unfortunately my GPS has gone flying more then once and in none of those occasions has it shutoff due to the impact. Give it time and it will come out easier for sure. Also at that point it will come out enough to lose contact for reception. At that point I had to put a lobster claw rubber band to keep from losing the signal. The band has to be on tight. This is with the right angle MCX from Gilsson's antenna.
  21. I use the MaHA PowerEX's 2200's and it's been o.k. since April. But after this I'm going for a upgrade. It failed when I needed it the most. Up the side of a mountain.
  22. I bet it's because everybody is starting to download from all over the world and it taxes the server too much.
  23. I believe they should have a kit for us to upgrade too. And sent out free for the asking. After all this isn't a $99.00 special here. I still love the unit though and what they've done for us in changes in software, etc. And they have offered to have a look and do something for me. Go Garmin. p.s. There is one thing that bothers me. When I use the right angle MCX connector for antenna it won't snap in all the way because the jack in the back case is recessed. I have to put a heavy elastic around it. If I use a straight MCX it sticks out far so when I put in in the case it pokes out and is also difficult to get in and out.
  24. FWIW, a 60CS that was shipped last week has small foam rubber pads on the backs of all four battery terminals, presumably to help with this very problem. Are you folks saying that your unit doesn't have these pads or that they're too wimpy? Be cautious about getting too much pressure on the back panel, though. I'd guess that lowering the pressure on the gasket might compromise the water seal. (OTOH, looking at three rubber plugs, I doubt that the battery compartment is the weakest link anyway...) I do hope that those of you experiencing problems with betas are contacting the maker directly with your feedback - that's sort of the point of beta programs. I don't have any pads in the unit. I got mine in April. If I send mine in for the repair I believe that's what they'll do. I hope it's a good rubber or foam as certain grades of foam will lose the resiliency. Rubber would be better.
