  1. While scouting out caches to do on my way home from Florida I saw a cache with a yellow jeep listed. No way is that yellow jeep in the cache I thought to myself. Imagine my surprise when I saw it in the cache. I "groped" it and left it there for someone else to steal
  2. Yes, cache-to-cache distances and direction show up now.
  3. Your TB does not have to have a mission other than to travel about and have its photo taken. That's a perfectly acceptable mission. I know I like seeing pictures of my TBs as they move about so I'm trying to take at least one picture with every TB I find and move. Right now I have about 25 TBs that I've collected so I'll be taking lots of pictures over the next week or so as I release them here in Georgia.
  4. While caching my way back from Florida this past Friday I stopped at one TB hotel and snagged 5 TBs but didn't leave any. 4 of the 5 had been sitting in the cache for 30 days or more and the one that had been in there less than 30 days I could help it on its mission so I grabbed it. What I really wish Groundspeak would do is to allow us to mark a TB as missing -- especially if we visited the cache and personally verified that the TB was not in the cache.
  5. Good point. I did find a place yesterday that makes small tags but upon 2nd thought I doubt I'll do anything. It would be interesting to do a poll to see how TB owners feel about this practice. I think the general consensus is to ask permission first and if you get the OK then add the tag, otherwise don't add anything.
  6. I want two for sure. At least one will be released the next time I visit Myrtle Beach after receiving the coin.
  7. I have been toying with the idea of adding a little tag to each TB I find. Something along the lines of "This TB was found and moved by ZackJones". What I need to decide is what kind of tag should I create - a small dog tag or wooden nickel perhaps...I guess I need to hit google and do a little searching.
  8. I think people put them in 5/5 caches as rewards to the person/teams that make the effort to find that cache. I suppose if one of your TBs was placed in one and sat for a while you could contact the owner and ask him/her to retrieve it.
  9. Gropers - I like it! About the only trackable I'm willing to grope is a geocoin. I won't log a normal travel bug unless I move it.
  10. Very nice looking coin. I reserved 2.
  11. Since TT II seems to be a must do I'll try to give it a shot Friday morning before I start the trip back north to Georgia. Thanks, everyone, for the replies. I'm really looking forward to caching down in Melbourne.
  12. I stopped by the local one hour photo shop this afternoon along with one of my ready-made CITO kits. I left with a 12x12x12 box full of 'em along with an invite to stop by as often as I'd like to get more.
  13. Raine, Thanks for the travel bug page modifications!
  14. Interesting concept. I just wonder the TB is going to start stinking after a while or if it would possibly attact some wild animal to the cache if it catches a scent of the possible fish odor it could pick up along the way. I would love to find a TB like this. It would give me a great excuse to go fishing again which is something I haven't done in quite a long while.
  15. Package up the travel bug tags and mail them to me...just kidding Send an email to contact@Groundspeak.com with your geonick and the 6-digit number. Someone there can help you activate the TB.
  16. Excellent idea CoyoteRed! Something I have done to try and keep on top of caches being archived is to create an Insta-Notify alert for any cache that is archived and/or disabled. This keeps me abreast of caches within a 50 mile radius of my home coordinates. I would like to see this capability expanded to include my entire state.
  17. Too bad it's sitting in IL. If it were closer I'd go grab it to get it moving. Hopefully someone will get it moving soon.
  18. Munin: Too funny, yo have a vivid imagination Perhaps the way folks could log the 2nd TB would be to use the grab option. One problem with this is after I grab it from Munin it would stay in my inventory until someone grabbed it from me
  19. I don't think your idea will fly. If I'm following you correctly you can only obtain the 6-digit secret number by sending you a PGP signed email? Now if you released the jump drive with your public key and attached the tracking tag with 6-digit number then I think it would be pretty cool. I'd probably consider getting my own PGP key just so I could send the email.
  20. I don't like the idea. - It prevents me from finding it if I just happen to be out and about in that area or if I'm passing through town and I forgot to contact you in advance. - What if my email doesn't make it to you and you never respond. That would hurt my feelings - How do you define recent activity? By logging into the web site or by how many caches you've found lately or by how many TBs you've moved lately or ???? - Why should I have to tell you in advance what TBs I plan to place/retrieve? What if I find one on the way - can it be placed or not since it may not have a reservation at the hotel? Thanks for posting the idea here though
  21. I don't have any experience with a PPC with GPS but it is my understanding that enabling the GPS on the PPC really uses up the battery quite quickly. For me it's GPS for navigation and PPC for cache information.
  22. What would be cool is if Groundspeak could confirm with Garmin that they do in fact read the boards and then we could get a pinned topic such as "Feedback to Garmin" so the Garmin tech guys and gals wouldn't have to read all of the posts. You do know that's why we have to wait on hold don't you - they're too busy surfing the forums
