  1. I found a couple using one about 15m away from a cache the other day. I didn't quite stumble over them whilst following the arrow, but nearly did! How do you know they were using one, methinks you stopped and watched!!
  2. I know if you are using tom tom there is a POI database with postcodes if that helps
  3. You need to change the format in which the co-ordinates are entered to be DD MM.MMM I think!!!!
  4. I think we miss the point here. The idea of visiting the caches is the thrill of the hunt, your average 50p shop would yield more toys and interesting tat than a lot of caches. I think this is a little bonus for the children but not really the primary reason!!
  5. Wildlifewriter, why dont you give us all the benefit of your HUGE intelligence rather than keep posting smart a** comments. If you know how to do something then perhaps you might like to help, as this is what these forums are for. If not then why bother telling people that you can do something and then say but I won't. This rather smacks of a child saying look at my new football, but you can't play with it. You could always post a disclaimer at the bottom. We all believe that you are really clever...............HONEST
  6. Having done this cache, what you will need is any wireless network device. You need to be able to read the SSID which is effectively the name of the network. In the case of this cache it is the co-ordinates of the container. I have also done a cache of the same type at my house which takes you to a container a few miles away. 80211 b is just the name for the standard of the wireless network, and is the most common (and cheapest) type around. Novatech near portsmouth are selling USB 80211.b dongles for about £18 which if you have a laptop is all you need. The solution for a PDA is a little more expensive but still not too costly, and will be very useful after you have done the caches. Incidentally there is another wireless network cache just North of the forth bridge, so that is 3 more caches (£6 each) Hope this helps.
  7. Hmm. Using the transctional analysis model I would say PARENT
  8. No worries, an amusing and entertaining video, and reap all the praise, 4 hours video-ing for 4 minutes air time, you deserve it.
  9. I also feel the same, the co-ords should be of the cache. I also tried a cache in Norfolk (probably the same one) that was listed as a regular but should have been a multi as the co-ords were for the clue!!! I found this using tom tom and thought it would be a quickie on the way home, and to add insult to injury the co-ordinates were also out!!! I tend not to bother notifying the cache owner as it just seems like sour grapes, and who am I to tell them how to hide caches??? In the end I guess it comes down to being a bit more careful and reading the description.
  10. My cache which I placed last October has still yet to be found, and it is within a mile of the busy little town of Emsworth!!! Sometimes I wonder where the spirit of adventure has gone.
  11. I had a legend, and it was an amazing bit of kit. I now have a 60CS and this is awesome, and the battery life is second to none, unless of course you use the backlight all the time. Go on then push the boat out and opt for the 60!!!!
  12. I cannot believe how many posts the pic of an attractive girl sitting on her bed attracts. Even an offer of company on the hunts Arent we all such a kind and helpful lot eh, wonder how many offers and replies would have appeared without such a lovely name, nice pic and a few well placed comments. Maybe this is just me being cynical though
  13. Dysdera refers to Dysdera Crocata which is a nasty little spider that eats woodlice. I used to paly with them as a kid, and like Pharisee I was looking for a hotmail handle and this one worked. I must admit, at meetings etc it does sound a little silly to be called dysdera, but then thats all part of the game.......................isnt it??
  14. Just to add my ten pennyworth. When we go out, we have a PPC which runs Tom Tom 3 to get us to the approximate location, We then use my sons Mio digiwalker PPC with Memory maps installed to get us to the location via the correct footpaths. I also have this installed on my HP5550 which I use together with a Fortuna Xtrac bluetooth Gps for the occasions when Thomas is at school. I then use a GPSMAP 60CS for the final journey to the cache. We also have a laptop, which is wired to the GPSMAP 6oCS with memory map running which I can use on the seat beside me to find footpaths etc and parking when I am driving while caching on my own. This is all a fairly expensive setup, but we have built it up over the last year or so and it suits us fine. As for the 60CS it is the best bit of kit I have ever had and I bought it from the states, the compass is wonderful when you are under the trees although the altimater is of limited use. The battery life on this unit is fantastic, far in excess of my old etrex legend.
  15. If people want to log a find they have not visited, then I guess its up to them, it makes no difference to me, as at the end of the day it is them who are missing out. I would never dream of removing a log from any of my caches unless it was offensive, and I guess under those circumstances it would have been deleted anyhow. In life you will always get cheats, but in the end what is the point, I cannot imagine why anyone would even want to log a cache they hadn't found as it does not exactly increase your social status does it? In the end this is a niche hobby/interest and everyone will get from it what they want.
  16. I did a cache not long after I started called black rock gorge near Inverness. Like most of the caches around this area it is very remote. As I was walking along a path along the top of the gorge with a river about 50-60 feet below I climbed over a fallen tree that had blocked the path and was hanging over the edge of the drop. Well as I put my leg over I slipped and started sliding down the shiny wet tree and towards the edge of the gorge and only stopped myself falling in by grabbing branches. It certainly loosened my bowels and I spent most of the walk back to the car thinking about what could have been. Found the cache though, more importantly!!!
  17. I think we should all club together and buy dan a notebook and a pencil
  18. Just a small point, GSAK is not really free is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well I dont think the author would agree anyway.
