  1. I ran 3 pocket queries last nite and repeated 1 of them this morning. I am leaving on a long trip today and these queries are for where I am heading. The queries are running but the emails are not coming. Is this another problem? I don't have time to download the individual waypoints. I need the query for the paperless caching!!
  2. My closest to home is currently 27.1 miles. One my closest to home page, #20 is 56.9 miles away. About three weeks ago, I was down to 1 within fifty miles... DARN, I almost won.
  3. I threw this topic out just to get some general response. There have been tons of good reasons NOT to restrict anything and I think they are ALL great reasons. All of those reasons are positive... Especially for the rural cacher with limited caches to find. There have been some very bitter responses... I don't really know why some people respond like that when a reason is good enough. Thanks Kit Fox for linking us to prior topic discussions.
  4. Have you ever looked for a cache placed by someone who has found 10 caches and placed 20? To preserve the integrity of caches on Geocaching.com, I feel like they should adopt rules on placing caches. My suggestion would be find 100 to be eligible for placing 1. This gives the hider some experience using their GPSr and some experience on what a quality cache is. Often time a "new" hider will mark a spot without averaging or checking their own coordinates. Later it is learned the cache is 200 ft away from the posted coordinates. Another good reason for the "100 rule" would be... it is obvious the hider may continue an interest in Geocaching beyond the 3 month "new toy" period. I recently listened to an interview on podcacher.com with Moun10bike. He was asked what advice would he give to a new cacher. His answer was hunt caches... do NOT hide caches. He stated it gives the new cacher a chance to get used to their new equipment. I realized after hearing that, I was not the ONLY person who is often disappointed with possiblity of another Muggle-Mart cache across the street from the Bullseye lightpole. What do you guys think... Yes or No to a waiting period?
  5. 48 is my high... I don't leave the house with at least 30 on a planned route. To get 30... I have to log 250 miles. There are only 9 left within 50 miles of my home. I have to travel 60 miles now to start. I am gonna break my record in July.
  6. I think my cache name just about says it all. I started night caching before night caching was popular. That is truly how I got my name. I actually think it is EASIER to find a cache at night. During the day, your focus is all over the woods. At night your focus is specifically where the light is shining and therefore you can concentrate on the "un-natural in a natural place" look. The local cachers even placed a "night" cache in honor of my 500th find to force other cachers in the woods at night. Many cachers in my area hunt at night now. Night-Hawk
  7. When you do a search for caches closest to your STORED home coordinates (filter finds on YOUR account page), it defaults to 50 miles and is NOT user defined. You can add "&dist=20" to the end of the URL that pops up from the "search from your home coordinates" link. That's probably as official as you're going to get. OR Set up a Pocket Query for caches within a certain distance from a set of coordinates and you can even limit it to the type of caches you like - then use the PREVIEW on that pocket query to get exactly what you are looking for. PERFECT... adding "&dist=100" resulted in exactly what I wanted.

  9. This morning when I left home, there were 2,006 caches within 100 miles of my home that I had not found. Around 11am this morning, that number changed to 1. I called around and discovered that the normal search distance from my home coordinates was reduced from 100 miles to 50 miles. Why would geocaching.com make this change? I only have 1 cache within 50 miles of my home. Does this mean that I only have 1 more cache until I win? Seriously though, why isn't the distance a user defined parameter?
  10. I would like 2 sets (combo of Regular and "LE") of the AT GeoCoin. You can out me down for the WHOLE series. Night-Hawk
  11. True... I NEVER said anything about money. Personally I would pay double the price for premium membership to GC... My question is WHY would anybody use Waymarking. I think many people are fooled by thinking that lots of people will use Waymarking so they can go see a view you like. Why not waymark the Washington Monument so you can have lots of "hits"? My question was, and still is, WHO and WHY would someone come here to find someplace to go see? I have my share of virtuals and locationless caches, but I also had a "reason" to see or do whatever it was. Maybe for someone who wants to be the leader in Waymarking, this would be a good start. Leave money out of this discussion... I never brought money into it. Personally, I could care less how anybody spends their money. That was not the issue I brought up.
  12. I really think this project will fail. Does anybody think Waymarking will be a hit? Please tell me WHY you would use this site. I logged locationless caches for smileys... I NEVER visited someone else's find just for fun. If I could see a value in this site I might be interested. Night-Hawk
