  1. I have been asked to transfer two geocaches to someone and I have accepted as I am now longer in a position to maintain them. How is it done ?
  2. Sorry I have nothing to add concerning iPhone, just win7 and IE9 and that we now need to turn off the "Content Filter" to make it work. For moblle caching we use Android phone and a mobile wifi "dongle" from "3", for programmes we use the goecaching one and c:geo, dedpending how we feel at the time. Perhaps someone else has an answer for you Allan
  3. Wallacethecat has it right. It's all down to that tracking thing. I did a windows update and set the tracking to "No content is filtered" and Geogaching is working again. Thank you for your help. But why should I not filter content. Allan
  4. I have discovered what the problem is. In my address bar there are a few symbols Looking Glass = Search Down triangle = Show address bar Autocomplete Circle diagonal line = No content is filtered on this site Split page = Compatibility View Spinning Circle = Refresh X = stop The problem is with the "No content is filtered on this site". When content is being filtered the logs and map don't work. As yet I have not found out why some websitse are filtered and some are not. Or if I need this thing at all. and I suppose the important thing, how to get rid of it if I don't need it. Allan
  5. I just see no logs found. Why is my computer different? is it because of Win7 or my Kaspersky Security. Or something else? And more importantly - How can I change it?
  6. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_logbook.aspx?guid=c8fe06a2-7b56-4a74-b08a-805666855390
  7. At the bottom of the cache page, where all the logs used to be all I get is a link to "View Logbook | View the Image Gallery of 8 images" This link just goes to a page saying Warning! Spoilers may be included in the descriptions or links. • All Logs (*) • Your Logs (*) • Your Friends' Logs (*) No Logs Found There are logs, But where are they?? It was much better when all the logs and photos were on the same cache page. Why have you done this? Why have you lost all of the logs?
  8. Back to the origonal post. I purchased an HTC Desire and a myfi dongle from "3" for caching, phone, camera and video. Today we did 9 caches along Worthing seafront. No DNF's, each one was easy to find using satmap and clue. We did not have to download 500 pocketquerys and then upload them to something else, and no paper so that is great, except the battery life is not brilliant. We went back to the campervan and logged them on the laptop as I still find the Desire onscreen keypad difficult to use.The programme app that we use is CGeo I tried Geobeagle but couldn't make it work (something to do with sdcard not ready). CGeo works fine. I have uploaded a few videos to Youtube, they are not brilliant but better than some that I have seen, you can have a laugh at my feeble efforts using allan01273. I will have to think what to use when we go to France. Probably McDonalds and free wifi Problem solved Allan
  9. LAST POST We have now done the shopping and this is the way we have chosen Tomtom 910 for navigating in the motorhome it was from ebay and only £80 HTC Desire Android phone, on payg for use as a phone, 5mb camera (the lense is highly reccomended) and geocaching with Google maps and gps. Perhaps using GeoBeagle when (if) we can get it working Compaq computer, win7 (pain in the a**) "3" mifi. Its a mobile wifi that connects 5 devices to the internet when there is no free wifi. It gives 15 gb per month for £15 Of course there was the expense of these 4 items, but there are no shops in the cemetary and you can't take it with you so you may as well spend it. Thank you all for your replies and advice which did bring important issues to our mind. Allan
  10. What we actually lost. The phone was an 3510i worth about £2, Laptop cost £400 but was 4 years old, Ipaq rx5935 £80 from ebay Tv dongle £40 but as old as the laptop, laptop case and a few cheap memorysticks amongst other things. Paswords have all been changed, and a friends house and car keys have all been sorted. Of course these are not replacement costs. let alone all the hassle. A new computer will not run all our existing software so second user stuff is probably the only way to go - added to that, motorhome security is a problem We have already got a replacement tomtom from ebay. It seems that the photographers say we need a dedicated camera, and the Geocachers say we need the best upto date Gps that there is. I thought that the Iphone would cover all this. As we also do Family History and run a website it seems that a replacment Laptop is needed. So! I did not like the Ipaq it was unreliable, always a pain to upload, not accurate and most of the time using 1-50,000 maps not all that clear. When we started geocaching we used printed Google Satellite maps from Geocaching.com which were always very clear and accurate, if unfortunately out of date and not from the area where we were going at the time when Mrs allan01273 changes her mind How can we see these Satellite maps when we are out in the field, get the most up to date logs and then log our finds? My thought was the Iphone, perhaps you have other suggestions.
  11. Thanks Martlakes for your very helpful response to my query. I had looked at O2 as I am with them at the moment but 3 seems to be a better package right now. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to answer my original query. After reading your post I feel even more certain that for my needs at the moment the iphone 4 is the way for me to go. Thanks also for your offer of further help - I will take you up on this if I have any problems but from reading your post it is easy to use I did find the ipaq RX5935 was a good device but was very time consuming to use. I had to bring down a PQ to my main computer, transfer it to a memory stick, load onto my laptop, transfer to gsak then to cachmate and memory map on the ipaq. Hopefully the iphone 4 will be a lot quicker. Thanks again. Allan
  12. Thanks for your replies. We were looking at the Iphone because it would seem to have replaced everything we lost (camera, phone, laptop, ipaq,) in one small "package" which would make it easier for us regarding security in our motorhome. As you say, it is quite an outlay but we are weighing it up against replacing each individual item seperately. We do feel that we would get a separate tom-tom though. Internet access is probably our main concern and we were not confident that the limits given by the phone providers would be enough. Our geocaching is generally based in towns or within 4 miles of our motorhome base at that time, not generally too far off the beaten track! Thanks Allan
  13. Our Ipaq Rx5935 and payg phone were both stolen so now we can make a new, fresh start with our equipment We are thinking of upgrading to the IPhone 4 on a contract. It has a 5mp camera, supported by Groundspeak, Google maps, email, websites, it just seems ideal We hardly used the phone. a £10 topup lasted 4 months so this part is unimportant and 20 emails in a month seems like hard work. How much data download do we need for an afternoon caching once a week, most tarrifs seem to allow 500m or 1G but Three offer more for more money, up to 3G I think they said Which provider are people using O2, Three, TMobile, Vodaphone, Virgin etc?. Which Tariff are you on ? How much data download is about 10 geocaches on a Sunday afternoon ? Is this the best way to go ? Kind regards and thank you for your replies, Allan
  14. I have a HP Ipaq 5935 On it is loaded Memory-map Cachemate And of course the unit has preloaded Tomtom and GPS I download from Geocache.com a pocket query to GSAK transfer that to Cachmate on the Ipaq Each component is working PERFECT The cords from cachemate are not displayed on the Memory-map, just a list of caches Memory-map does not show where I am, just a great big map How do I get it all to work together. Allan
  15. Thats right, NO GPS but then you can either have a seperate gps reciever that transmits by bluetooth to the Ipaq or have one connected to the Ipaq by its memory sd slot, or the usb slot. The important question though is. What do the numbers RX5900, Rx5910, Rx5920, Rx5915, Rx5930, Rx5935, Rx5940, Rx5965, Rx5975 mean. Or sometimes I have seen RX5900 Series, and sometimes it is just refered to as "Travel Companion". Is there a difference.? As an example my printer DX4850 if purchased in PCWorld is called DX4855 exactly the same printer, but they sell it as a special product, only available there. Are the RX59s the same or not? Allan.
  16. I have been shown an Ipaq Rx5935 and think that it would be great for paperless caching. There are several in the series Rx5900 5910 5915 5930 5965 and so on but - Whats the difference if anything between them please. I have searched Google all night and can't find an answer Also the Ipaq 214 seems to be the latest kit, and not much more expensive than the rx5935. Should I get the bang up to date thing and add a gps to it. My method of geocaching is just a printout and a map from Google. I have never used a gps. Thanks Allan
  17. Thank you all for all of your replies. I have now found out that the answers are all somewhere else on this site. However it is so much easier and quicker to ask specific questions and get the answers straight away, thank you. My GPSr is old and only tracks eight satellites, it dosen't have the latest chipset, nor the toys, games and maps. However I have already found a few caches and look forward to finding more. I don't know how people can find a lot of them in one day. The most that I have done is two, perhaps it is because the ones that I do involve searching all round villages for parts of the final location. Perhaps the prices of GPSr on Ebay come down in the winter, when people are not using them and I will look out for them. In the meantime I think that the GPS 45 that I have will sufffice. A major problem may be that I don't have "cachers eye" and don't guess or see the the hiding place. A little film box somewhere a stones throw away is a big task. Thank you all, Allan
  18. I am using a Garmin GPS45. It was sold as a marine unit and is now long since obsolete. The software is from 1994. It only cost £11.00 so I realised that it may not be suitable for Geocaching, but risked it anyway. I thought that "marine" would mean it's more robust and waterproof. After all a position is just a position whether on land or sea. Why would it give the height above sea level, if it would not work on land? I have set the Units from nautical to statute (I'm too old to work in Metric) and the datum is WGS84 as shown in its instruction book. There were about 100 datums to choose from including Ord Survey GB which does not sound too nautical. If the missus and I find that Geocaching is something that we can get interested in, then if necessary, we will spend a little more money and update our GPSr, but it seems that there is no greater accuracy in spending hundreds of pounds. It would seem that the Meridian stone was not where I thought it should be, on the Meridian!. What about my other queries how far is 00.001 in inches, and is the readout meant to recalculate and change by plus/minus 00.020 whilst the GPSr is stationary. Allan
  19. It depends what datum you are using, and which Greenwich Meridian you are using, it has changed a few times Havent got time for a full reply at the moment. Thanks for all your responses and I will look at them further, later tonight. The stone was part of "Not another Meridian Cache" GC19C3K which I did yesterday with "Upper River Ouse Locks - Iron Gate" GC15QGK in the afternoon. Allan
  20. I purchased a Gps unit second hand I am unsure if the seller got rid of it because it was inaccurate. How accurate should they be? Standing at the Meridian stone near Newick which should be 000 it read W00 00.087 Approaching the GZ the readout changes by 1 every two or three paces. When I reach the GZ and lay it on the ground, knowing that the cache is arround here somewhere, the readout keeps changing by about plus or minus 00.020. Should I take the average or do other gps hold a steady position. How far is the difference of each 00.001 Not such a problem but still annoying, the height above sea level says something like 33 feet plus or minus 67 which is at the bottom of the ocean Allan
