  1. Hi everyone I'm asking you all is there a meeting say annually or six-monthly where Geocachers can come together and have a pint and a laugh and tell of our glorious finds. Also is there a magazine dedicated to the sport. These questions may seem easy but HEY i'm a newbie.......Bifter.
  2. I see the point here from both sides. I think if a cache is remote it has very little chance of being plundered therefore very little maintenance would be required. Having said that if a problem did arise the owner MUST be prepared to sort it IF it's reported. After all what is Geo-caching REALLY about.......Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island, how easy was it to find?
  3. From my very first find I always take an item from the cache. When I get home I always keep the item with a description of when and where I found it. This is to be a future reference and memory of each cache I have found. Does this sound like strange behaviour or do you do a similar thing?.....Bifter.
  4. Heres a phenomenom All you fine folk are talking bout low tempretures and this kinda thing I have a basic etrex and i'm pretty sure the garmin website boasts a temperature range of -20 to +50 or something close to this!!!!
  5. Hi I would just like to say that I am new too. I started on the first of January! That day i typed my postal code into the computer and it showed me loads of caches within 40miles. I just read a few and chose what looked like an easy one. I went out in the bitter cold to find it and when I did I was dead chuffed and to top it all off when I logged it I was a FTF .......but hey I am hooked and have now found three caches. One great thing bout not being first is you get to read the logbook and that can be fun. Keep going and you will get a FTF even though I personally don't care if a hundred people find it before me...LOL.....happy caching.......Bifter
  6. Hi JD I have done a bit of research on the lowranse ifinder and it seems to be a straight-forward 12channel gps.....whiche means if you get a decent lock on say 5or6 sattelites you should get accuracy within about 20ft.......happy caching......Bifter.
  7. LOL......LOL......my wife had set remember me on the Groundspeak.com entrance page sorted now though....Bifter
  8. Just thought i'd join in. Did a cache by midday on jan 1st (u.k) and did another one today jan 2nd (u.k) .......AND i'm about to set off and do another one now (my first one at night).......Bifter.
  9. Hi I have had many boots (a serious camper for 20yrs) Head, loveson, merrel, salomon, Hi Tec, and a few others. I have to say my hi-tec were very good considering how cheap they were but my Head boots have goretex and a duradry lining for only£50 Also they have new technology in the foot to make them low impact on the joints. I would suggest at least looking at these boots before buying a pair of anything they REALLY are good. P.S I often do 15mile hikes several times a week.........Bifter
  10. I don't make resolutions but i AM gonna find 100 caches before this new year is out (bearing in mind i'm a very busy person)...Bifter
  11. Hey Hornet I want to tell you I found my first cache on January the first in pouring rain AND it was a first find for the cache (a bit of what u fenn see) AND I went again today and found my second cache. Thanx for the encouragement...Bifter
  12. Found my second cache today, (first yesterday) one was in the open and one was heavy trees even though no leaves cos its winter. However on BOTH occasions I have been within 10feet of the cache and I only use a basic Etrex. I have only done the 2 caches though so maybe im on a roll. LOL
  13. Hi Kerry! I know you have to have a waas enabled handset to recieve waas but what about this egnos? is it the same or does any set recieve this?
  14. Hi i'm new to this but already hot on ur heels (i'm doing my first cache tommorrow) LOL I hope I can be as succesful as you......well done.
  15. I fully intend to hide a cache of my own soon!!! it will be medium say ice-cream tub size but I don't think many of you will find it cos it's gonna be in the u.k sorry! if any of u Americans do find it I would love to hear from you though....happy caching
  16. Hi Im confused too! I don't think you really need all the info and stats just use the goto function on your gpsr and away u go.......happy caching
  17. As you can see i'm coming to terms with the forums I now have an avatar and a signature........
  18. I have just bought an Etrex basic yellow for £93.00 in the uk I have to say I am new to gps but have been hiking and map reading for years. To me it seems like a really well built and easy to use unit. I know it isn't kitted out with every gadget but for caching do you really need a machine that can work out the theory of relativity.....well done Garmin.
  19. Whoops I just realised my etrex isn't waas enabled LOL....
  20. I have it on good authority that waas will be fully enabled by second quarter 2004 CoooooooooL!!!!!!
  21. Hi I have just bought an etrex basic yellow and it is great. I have a lock on 8 sattelites REGULARLY and my accuracy is usually under 20ft even under tree cover (havn't used it in cloud yet though) happy caching
  22. Hi everyone. I live in the u.k and am new to caching. I am going to my first cache tommorrow. 01.01.04 Just a few questions to ask. 1) I have a basic etrex when the sats lock and it says acuraccy 20ft does this actually mean that the unit will get me to within 20ft of the inputted waypoint? 2) When people post cache co-ordinates how accurate are they in general. I have read stories of getting as close as 100 meters. How are you supposed to find a cach if you only get within 100meters? 3) I did a lot of research before buying the etrex, can anyone tell me just how close they can get me to a cache? Many thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer my questions.
