  1. Give him THIS web address, Refer to THISarticle, and definitely give him a copy of THIS
  2. How many teams will there be? Will there be one GPSr per team, at least? If so, lets look at an oversimplified version you could do. 4 teams; 4 GPSr’s, and a park that has at leas 4 caches in it. Collect the 4 GPSr’s, load 1 cache in each GPSr. Send the teams out to find the cache on their GPSr. Give them “X” amount of time to complete the find. When everyone returns to “base camp” collect the GPSr’s, and hand them back out to the teams. This will allow each group to look for 4 caches, but they are looking for different ones at the same time, and then rotating. Hey, all I said was I had an idea. I said nothing about it being a good one. If you happen to like this crazy idea, e-mail me through my profile page, and I will try to do a better job explaining it.
  3. I have found that ClydeE, the creator/progamer of GSAK, is very easy to reach through the GSAK Thread. he and the other users are very helpful.
  4. As mentioned above, I would check outGSAK.
  5. As of 12:58, "Texas Time", the site is up for now. It stayed up all day yuesterday, then went down lastnight.
  6. you can also read about it here. It has a vague topic header. I would not know it was about the Texas site.
  7. I seriously doubt anyone here seriously believes they know anyone’s job better than that person does, and to insinuate it, just shows that you lack the ability to knowledgeably engage in a discussion on this topic. This type of responses usually indicates a lack of understanding of the topic being debated. In English, it is a cop-out statement used when an educated statement cannot be found, and by people that like to argue, just for the sake of arguing. I am not sure what Broadcasting Company you worked for, but the ones I have been employed by do take these things seriously. A station’s on air talent reflects not only on everyone at the station, but also on the community in which they operate. I have shown this clip to many friends in Broadcasting, Public Relations, and Advertising firms, they all had the same reaction as we did. To sum them all up and paraphrase, “ I can not believe this guy just insulted his viewers like that”. Oh really, now you are truly showing your arrogant side. Ask the Dixie Chicks, CBS, Clear Channel, Pepsi, or Budweiser if the public can make a difference. This one is my favorite, coming from the person that has had nothing constructive to add to this thread, but who takes plenty of time to criticize others. You might want to take a second a re-evaluate your use of time in your life. Come to think of it. WHY am I wasting time out of my life to acknowledge such an argumentative, shortsighted, non-constructive post? I probably need a life.
  8. It is called accountability. Plain and simple. I do not think people spent as much time as you seem to think. E-mail takes just a few minutes to draft and send. Just as you felt the need to stop what you were doing, and reply to this thread, we thought is was necessary to take a moment and let Mr. Turner know that his comments were not appreciated, nor were they called for.
  9. The Texas sight is down again. The selector might not be available.
  10. At 5:34pm, Texas time, the site is finally back up.
  11. I would like to thank Mr. Turner for making me take the time to evaluate my lack of a life. After this self re-evaluation, this is what I came up with. I can sell my company and “live off the Government” giving me more time to watch more news, thus supporting more arrogant anchormen. I can stop my Ministry work on Tuesdays and Thursdays; after all, disadvantage youth from broken homes really do not need to know how to cook for themselves. Nor do they need to be exposed to the “good things” life has to offer. This would free up a bunch of time for me to get a life watching TV, supporting arrogant News Anchors. I could terminate my position on the Board of Directors for the Cherokee Cultural Society of Houston, the kids at the schools we go to really hate it when we come talk to their class about Indians. This could free up some time to watch more news, supporting arrogant Anchors. I am sure there are a few other things I could sacrifice in my “lack of a life” to free up even more time to watch the news, supporting arrogant anchors. Sniff, sniff, sniff. Is that sarcasm I smell?
  12. I have also sent e-mails to people at Viacom that I know. For those of you not in the Detroit area, or that do not follow media happenings, back in 2002, Viacom/CBS Channel 7 started producing a 60-minute newscast at 10 p.m. weekdays and a 30-minute newscast on Saturday and Sunday for Viacom's UPN affiliate, WKBD-TV (Channel 50), using Channel 7 employees and resources. This is for any of you that might be getting confused about the segment airing on UPN 50, but the contact information going to a CBS/Viacom station. I am just trying to “fill in the blanks” you can also call action 7's Public Relations: 248-827-9307
  13. Sent my e-mails. I would love to see this taken to the next level. I vote that we all e-mail the “Station manager” at our local UPN networks and inform them of the insult in Chicago, and add something to the effect of, “….I hope it is not common practice for all UPN networks to insult the subjects in the stories they cover ……” I bet this guy would **** his pants when the e-mails from sister stations start coming in to his boss.

  15. Holy crappie Snoogans! “Holy Grail” does not event come close, I think I could find that easier than I will complete This. I am glad I am on your team at TC2004
  16. One find and one DNF. Nasty weather in the Houston area today, but you can only log 2/29 every four years, so we were determined. We did not feel so bad when we saw Snoogans DNF on the same cache yesterday. I just wish I had seen his DNF before we went to that spot in the rain, we could have just gone to the second choice first.
  17. You could for adding software, but with a serial adapter you can hook the GPS to your laptop for ther uses, such as in car navigation. Off topic a bit, but if someone can “markwell” this, that would be great. I did a search for “gps and laptop” and found nothing. How do you use a GPSr and laptop, together, for navigation? It would be great to use the larger screen, for the sake of my passenger/co-pilot’s eyesight. What, if any, additional software is needed? You know, everything that is needed. MeriGold w/firmware 5.xx Thanks in advance
  18. Good call. I do not mind taking a risk, as long as I know what the risk is up-front. They are very good middle-of-the-road units. I have also noticed that you can find a Meridian unit for very close to the same price as the SporTrack “Map”, “Pro”, and “Marine” units.
  19. OK now I am confused. 4 regions of 8megs each = 32megs, correct? Or do you double the answer when dealing with Megs? Edited SP.
  20. Gas Prices vs other goods. People have been complaining about the rising price of gasoline recently, but I have always thought that gas was a good value (especially if you were to take the $0.30, $0.40 per gallon tax off at the pump)! Obviously others need a little convincing. So an article in "Autoweek" magazine brought it all to light. What if you were to buy a gallon of . . . 1. - Diet Snapple 16 oz for $1.29 = $10.32 per gallon 2. - Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz for $1.19 = $9.52 per gallon 3. - Gatorade 20 oz for $1.59 = $10.17 per gallon 4. - Ocean Spray 16 oz for $1.25 = $10.00 per gallon 5. - Quart of Milk 16 oz for $1.59 = $6.32 per gallon 6. - Evian (water) 9 oz for $1.49 = $21.19 per gallon 7. - STP Brake Fluid 12 oz for $3.15 = $33.60 per gallon 8. - Vicks Nyquil 6 oz for $8.35 = $178.13 per gallon 9. - Pepto Bismol 4 oz for $3.85 = $123.20 per gallon 10. - Whiteout 7 oz for $1.39 = $254.17 per gallon 11. - Scope 1.5 oz for $0.99 = $84.84 per gallon So next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on Nyquil or Scope or Whiteout! Anyone drive a Hybrid ? I am seriously considering it, as soon as I can afford to trade out of my 2002 combustible engine car.
  21. Just to make it easy on yourself, you might want to close the other post. If you go to the bottom of the page, look at the left hand side, you should see a dropdown box that says, “Moderation Options” this is where/how you can close your own topic. On to your question… Many people are using a USB-Serial converter with great success, so I would not let that get in the way. The rest of it depends on your budget. If affordable, I would suggest any of the mapping units by Magellan or Garmin. These two brands are what most people use, and they each have a good selection of mapping and non-mapping choices.
  22. Thanks for the heads-up. Hopefully I can record it.
  23. Before someone gets rude, and jumps down your throat. You can use the search feature at the top of the forum pages to see if you question/topic has already been covered. The tricky part to this is knowing the correct word or word-string to produce the correct response. In this case if you do a search for “GPS on airplanes” you should get a decent return.
  24. Wow, this forum has changed in the short 3 months I have been reading it. In the old days, when someone asked a question, it was answered, or a link to the other topic was posted. What word would YOU search for, and how much time would you spend reading through 3+ pages of posts before you gave up/assumed it was not there? If you do not know the correct word or word string, you could spend days. Dangerous Objects=1 post, this one Dangerous=37 none of which apear to cover this topic Dangerous cache items=nothing Bad cache items=nothing Do you get the idea? When did people get to be so smart that they assume everyone else is an idiot, and did not try a search first? On the same note, I was not born knowing everything I know now, and I doubt anyone else was. We learn through asking questions.
  25. Dito. For traveling, I personaly enjoy being able to us the SD card expandable memory of the Magellan Meridian series. I am not saying they are better or worse than any other brand, I just personally like the freedom of the expandable memory, so this was the logical choice for me. I do not have to waste time downloading new regions every time I go somewhere. I can download everything ahead of time to the SD card(s) on my PC at home, and using a reader/writer cuts this time from an hour or so to 10 – 15 minutes. When I need a different map/region, it only takes a minute, at most, to make the switch. There is also a very active and knowledgeable user group for the Meridians in Yahoo Groups, and this is great for extra help. Whichever brand and unit you purchase, you can also find a local geocacher to meet with and get a hands-on lesson. You know what they say about opinions , this is just mine.
