  1. I think that is an excellent example. It was truthful but constructive and polite. Did the cacher move the cache?
  2. On another note... I am looking for a place in the Almaden Valley area to hold a Polymer clay class for geocachers. I need tables and seating for around 20, with good light. Any suggestions? (either a public spot or someone with a large rec room...)
  3. The next meeting of the SCC Parks commission is on Wed. Mar. 2nd at 6:30 pm, 70 W. Hedding St , San Jose. I plan to attend just to see how they function, and see if this is something that would be in our interest to monitor.
  4. "Not Allowed" stikes me as a policy. The statement that it will be reviewed in 2005 strikes me as "go pound sand". I think it would be in our best interest if we were represented at every meeting until this comes up. I am going to make it a practice to be more CITO-minded while caching in our parks. If EVERY ranger who encountered a cacher saw a trash bag in their hands it might help create an impression.
  5. I think that's exactly what we need to do, and be very purposeful about it. We need to have a couple of us at every event and forum where the subject might come up. As long as we are strangers to them, we can become the bad guys. How can we find out what meetings are coming up? Do you have the links? I'd be happy to attend a few.
  6. Wow, that's depressing. I enjoyed that series. I think there is a real personality problem with someone in EBRP. The rangers I've spoken to in the south bay all seem either positive or neutral on the subject. At some point there is going to have to be some sort of organized persistant lobbying effort to get these people on board. I'd hate to see us left with just urban film cans.
  7. I like that the site has NOT changed that much, mostly just cosmetics. But I do like the favorites and ignore lists. Now if they could just set up the ignore lists by cacher...
  8. ya... but you don't get a smiley for visiting it
  9. Why are the Earthcaches being assigned one owner instead of the individuals that created them? 1) As an owner, I now have a cache I can't log sitting in my queries. 2) If any edits are required for the cache page (from spelling, to facts, to my email address), I cannot change it myself, and assume I must have this done second hand. 3) My email address is displayed for finders to use when submiting verification. This is not an issue for me, but others will not like the lack of privacy here. None of these are huge issues, I'm just curious and assume there must be some need this arrangement fulfills?
  10. There's this big crack in the ground. It mostly stays put (mostly), maybe we could leave trade items there... Of course, I'll stand there and manage trades personally if you are placing a geocoin...
  11. Looks like the logjam is getting unstuck. My Earthcache that was submited just 2 weeks ago has been approved and went live this evening. Still tied to the one account though, bummer. It was edited to include my email address for verification purposes. But I can't edit the cache, and it will show on my queries as unfound.
  12. Wow! It's approved! Go and get your very own Earthcache folks! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...6f-f26f6d7d2d8d
  13. Looks like Kealia and I will be in Tahoe this weekend, anyone else heading up there? Snow cache event? hmmmm?
  14. Is this more what you had in mind? That's pretty much what I see when there is a new cache locally, or when someone drops a geocoin around here.... (ever see the french film short "Rendesvous" by LeLouch? Kind of reminds me of caching around here)
  15. I would call Garmin, they "supposedly" have a great customer service dept. --Marky They are very good at approving RMAs and often do free repairs. They have to be good at this because it is so often required! I have an RMA open to send mine in for a 6 item checklist of repairs (all free), just haven't been able to pry it loose from my clenched hand yet.
  16. 50 miles an hour? My car idles faster than that... It's all on highway (mostly I5), plenty of quick caches on the route (zillions in Portland),. I would expect 8-10 hours driving, with 2-3 hours caching (consider the driving time gets you from cache to cache), end up somewhere between Eugene and Portland the first night. Probably the same the other 2 days.
  17. Texas has a 2003 coin and are currently in the process of making a new coin. Thought so. I had a picture from the Fisur site that didn't match the 2003 or 2005 so I thought there just might have been another version out there. Just saw a picture of the coin I am looking for. Same as the 2003, but with a large round "LoneStar" version of the Groundspeak logo on the back, instead of the standard square logo and URL. If anyone has one to trade, I have some coins I can offer, or would part with one of my handturned signature wands: http://www.geocities.com/team_fisur/geo-cr...wood/index.html email me if you are interested ( I'll also be looking for one of the Georgia coins when they are released next month... your choice of woods on the wand)
  18. Well.... very few visits to this cache (Secret Trailhead: Natural Bridges) since I was there with Nostrada... maybe we need to contact a few of the recent logs and see if someone has been taken under the power of the ring? (Hmmmmm.... wonder about that Nostrada character.... shady sort, might be in the employ of Saruman)
  19. Ok, so several people are interested. Lets figure out when to do this. The plan- caravan from San Jose (and elswhere) up Hwy 5 to WA and Project Ape. 3 days, staying each night in Portland. First suggestion was to time it so we return through Oregon on May 3rd for the anniversary. That would make this a Sun-Tues trip. If not, we could do a Fri-Sun trip at another time (maybe earlier). Thoughts?
  20. I would be very interested in this. I'm not certified... But, I am certifiable! Sounds like a lot of fun! -TPS- (The Petoskey Stones) Starting up a new thread for this...
  21. Actually, my cache was converted from an existing virtual. This may be why it shows up differently. Now don't you go bursting my bubble.... I want that icon! Seems it would be a problem if the confirmation emails had to be sent to someone other than the listed owner of the cache, and it would be a pain to have a local cache I could not log hanging around on my queries. But I'll skip the speculation, I'm sure it's being addressed.
  22. Looks like that may be changing with the new ones: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...0a-9c0f9fd9cbe0 Hope so, I have one submitted pending approval (California)...
  23. And speaking of Quicksilver, I just saw this on the SCC Parks website: "The following areas are closed (this information will be updated as conditions change): * Almaden Quicksilver- All trails are closed due to poor conditions. Virl Norton Trail is closed until spring 2005. The New Almaden Trail at Senador Mine and Mine Hill Trails is closed until April 23, 2005."
  24. Today at about 2:45 PM I was at WG Portal (which I DNF'd) and the GPSr went from 30 ft to 0.18 miles(!) and back again in a few seconds. Then for about 30 seconds it swung from 20-150 ft and the arrow swung all over the place. All this while I was standing still. Had 3 finds and about 10 DNF today. You know, now that I think about it, I was out caching with my daughter and one of her friends about that time in Quicksilver today. They were complaining that the compass was pointing all over the place and that the distance kept changing. I told them they just weren't holding it right...
